The biggest weakness the Twins had coming into spring training was lack of quality starting pitching. It still is the biggest weakness by far on this team!! The Archer signing does very little for me. Could work out but probably won't. We finished near the bottom in all of MLB in pitching last year. This does nothing to change that. The jury is still out on this team contending. This is not a major league pitching staff at the moment. It appears no more changes are coming before the start of the season. We appear to have good offense and defense but not much pitching, again! We spent 35 mil on a superstar shortstop. If this pitching staff is what we are left with, then the Correa signing is confusing and maybe a waste of resources. Unless of course the great Correa can pitch lol.

Twins to Sign RHP Chris Archer to One-Year Deal
Whitey333 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Hope the move works out. I guess it's worth a try. But if thats all that we are going to add to the starting pitching staff we probably won't be in contention at all by the trading deadline. Archer may turn out ok. But it's just as likely to be another reclamation busy. The other day a national publication had the twins projected at 79-83 this year good for fourth place in central. This was after the Correa signing. I am guessing that is it for adding starting pitching. So the starting staff has 2 reclamation projects, two guys with a total of 25 ml games between them and likely a rookie. But we do have a 35 million dollar shortstop. Good luck! I really hope it works out, but not very likely. -
Twins 2022 Position Analysis: Shortstop
Whitey333 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Great article!! Well thought out. I wish Correa could also pitch lol. Without some solid pitching I don't think we can contend. Great signing for the twins albeit likely just a one year deal to mainly enhance Correas bargaining power next year.- 10 replies

I've been listening to the broadcasts on radio. The broadcasts are awesome. Provus and Gladden do a great job. It does give me relief from listening to the obnoxious Dick Bremer on tv. However, I am very upset that for the past several months we have had no access to watch the games on TV. Of course this includes all the local sports that BSN carries. Hello out there does anyone care?

Josh Winder Shouldn't Make the Opening Day Rotation
Whitey333 replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I can't imagine too many people looking at the starting staff consider it major league as is currently constructed. I keep hoping and waiting for one or two more quality starters to be added. Correa is a great addition if it is followed up with some major league pitchers, not all of them major league ready pitchers. To spend $35 million one on player without upgrading pitching seems foolhearty. Unless, of course Correa can pitch.- 48 replies

Just How Good Is Carlos Correa?
Whitey333 replied to Nash Walker's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Great to have a real superstar on the team. As far as it making them a contender I'm not so sure. Yes he makes them better assuming he puts up his normal numbers. I just can't see the Twins as legit contenders unless and until they add a veteran starter or two on the pitching staff. It was a stunning and exciting move by the Twins. Let's hope it all works out. The current team with it's inadequate pitching is probably not more than a 500 team certainly not a contender. If, however, we add quality to the pitching that could vault us into the playoffs. -
Ghost Runner Rule Back to Haunt in 2022
Whitey333 replied to Melissa Berman's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I hate the rule. It's a gimmick and a joke. Most of the people I talk to don't like it either. If the have to do something stupid like this at least start it like in the 11th or 12th inning. -
Roster Repercussions from Randy Dobnak’s Injury
Whitey333 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
If this article doesn't show the sad state of affairs regarding the starting staff nothing does. Dobnak injury affecting starting staff? Get serious. With all the additions to other parts of the roster, we must assume FO will get a starter SOON. As currently constructed the starting staff is not major league proven with maybe one or two exceptions. If we somehow add a starter or two we will be solid contenders.- 23 replies

Twins 2022 Position Analysis: First Base
Whitey333 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Very well written article. I agree with all of your analysis on Sano. He definitely has been an up and down player. I can't see any way the Twins pick up his option after this year. But then again I can't see why any pitchers ever throw him a strike with the fastball. Breaking ball outside corner gets him nearly everytime. -
Falvey Shows Flexibility in Twins Decisions
Whitey333 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
How about a what have you done for me lately comment? Where's the major league starting pitching staff? We need another starting pitcher or two to be competitive. I am confident they will add a quality starter soon. If not then what's the point of signing Correa? It's nice to see all the moves in an attempt to be a contender!! Let's keep it going!- 33 replies

Offseason Status Update: Here Comes Correa
Whitey333 replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I realize Twins don't want to sell the farm, however with one of the best minor leagues in baseball it makes sense to trade from strength. We need quality starting pitching!! You can't get it without losing any assets unless you sign a FA. And those are pretty much done. It's going to cost some young " prospects " to acquire some. Use them. I am sure they have something coming. I must admit I was very skeptical but it appears I may have been a little hasty in my judgement of the FO. Let's wait and see how this all shakes out. I'm sure they didn't sign Correa with the intent of being a last place format. I love the prospect of being a contender.- 35 replies

I can't believe that they won't make a trade for a decent starting pitcher. Spending that much money even if only for one year makes no sense unless you have major league pitching. They have made trades in the past to acquire prospects. It may be a good time to trade some prospects for reliable pitching. It appears I, like many others, was selling this FO short. It looks like there is a plan. Thank you. Must get another veteran starter. I am sure they will.

Great signing Twins. Totally unexpected! Well done. We could have signed 2-3 starting pitchers for what they are paying him for one year. I'm hoping we still have something left to sign/ or trade/ to get more pitching. The twins overall pitching is suspect and except for a couple, is not a major league starting staff. Have to assume if they are paying Correa $35 million for likely one season they must be looking to improve the pitching staff. If not, what's the point? It is great though to finally make a significant signing.

Breaking Down the Twins Signing Carlos Correa
Whitey333 replied to Jamie Cameron's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Very bold, interesting, and totally unexpected. We do need starting pitching. Hopefully we address that as well. For what they paid Correa they could have gotten two quality starting pitchers. If they add a starting pitcher or two they could actually contend. Nice. -
What to Expect From New Twins Catcher José Godoy
Whitey333 replied to Matt Braun's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Isn't it just sad that we are even in a position as an organization that we are supposed to get excited about a fourth or fifth string catcher in Godoy? If the FO doesn't significantly improve this major league roster in the next two weeks how does 95-100 losses sound? We made one good addition in Gray. The jury is still very much out on the rest. The current roster is a mess. Come on Twins. Finish what you started. Or is what you started only to reduce payroll and not be competitive? -
Gary Sanchez is Not a Miguel Sano Clone
Whitey333 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I have no real expectations for Sanchez. It's becoming more and more apparent that the Twins are not even going to make an attempt to be respectable! We gave the Yankees their starting third baseman and shortstop for the season and took on two players they don't even want. So we are supposed to get excited by signing a 27 year old catcher that no one else wanted that was put on waivers by the other team? I haven't seen any indication yet that they are going to spend any of the payroll they saved since starting to dump salary last year with Berrios and Cruz. As of tonight my confidence is very low for the next couple of years. Please Twins, prove me wrong and invest in payroll -
Can Change-of-Scenery Help Sanchez?
Whitey333 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I hope it works out well for Sanchez here but I am skeptical. I am not at all surprised dumping Donaldson salary. Statistically he gave pretty much what was expected of him. Injuries yes. But didn't Buxton stay off the field more than on it the past 7 seasons? On paper it looks like we got fleeced. I believe Sanchez has hit .178 over the past two seasons. He is also statistically rated the worst defensive catcher in the American League. We seem to have depleted an area of strength in catching to an area of concern. We gave the Yankees their starting third baseman and shortstop. For what? An obvious salary dump. If more moves are not forthcoming to strengthen the Twins roster,. This FO has got to go. Unless of course it's a Pohlad mandate. Then they will be here forever. Bottom line for us Twins fans is the team just sells us prospects and hopes and now change of scenery. Good grief!- 52 replies

One Last Shot for Lewis Thorpe
Whitey333 replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I hope he does well. But I just don't see it. The fact that they are already giving him a spot in the bullpen is troubling. Surely they must have some better candidates. The pitching staff is still a mess and keeping Thorpe doesn't make the staff any better, just desperate. -
Gray is a great addition since it didn't really cost us much. No a number one 18 year old high school pitcher is not a great asset. He could be good in the future. But very few of them ever make it. Now when you look at Gray at the top of the rotation it's fine. But the others lined up behind him on a major league starting staff is a joke and a potential disaster. The roster as currently constructed looks no better than a 5th place team. Let's hope additions are made SOON!

The Twins Have a Yellow Brick Road
Whitey333 replied to Nash Walker's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
If the Twins don't add anymore players of significance then it's obvious we are in an owner mandated salary dump. .I fully expect 2-3 more significant moves. Wouldn't it make sense to do them soon while spring training is on? -
Cruz and Berrios could easily be called salary dumps. Those two moves freed up over 20 million last year. It's just my opinion but that's what I call it. Not irrationality any more than your irrational comment

Analyzing the Twins March Madness Additions
Whitey333 replied to Andrew Mahlke's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Who knows what the FO will do. Listening to Falvey try to explain things adds to the confusion. He himself states he doesn't know where this is all going. Ever since the Twins trader Berrios and Cruz for inexperienced and cheap prospects, the salary dump has been on. Let's hope there is a plan here to add more players.- 16 replies

VIDEO: So What the Hell Are the Twins Doing?
Whitey333 replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
At this point the trades are confusing. There has got to be more coming. If not then this FO has to go. If they are under directive to cut payroll by ownership then ownership should be happy. If they are not then it's plain strange. We have very little catching, no ss, need more starting pitching, and bullpen help. This team today on paper is a joke. Let's hope they fix it up.- 3 replies

Major payroll reductions. And roster confusion. Remember, twins are not required to spend the significant payroll savings. With a payroll under 100 million and revenue sharing they will come out great financially. I hope they reinvest the savings but since the salary dumping started last year with Berrios and Cruz and now the recent trades, it's either moves to clear salary for future moves or just as likely a salary purge and a deep rebuild. Yuck

The Donaldson salary dump at this juncture has created a roster mess. I hope the great Byron Buxton can pitch and catch lol. I have been saying for months that I think the twins COULD be on a salary purge. I think the trade begs other moves. People assume and understandably so that there is 30- 40 million to spend. Going back to salary dumps of Berrios and Cruz for prospects and the recent moves has thus far created roster holes and major pa
