    Yes Arraez definitely needs to be in the regular lineup as much as possible. Nothing wrong with being DH. As Gladden says you've got to have one of your best hitters in the lineup regularly whether it's against a lefty or righty. Arraez is a very good hitter currently without a position. My opinion is he fits best at second. But that's not workable since that's Polanco spot. Outfield? Only in an emergency. I don't like him at third. Baldellis analytics not withstanding, he can be brutal there defensively. Why not DH him regularly? He certainly has earned that.

    I absolutely hate " pitch framing ". I think it's unprofessional and demeaning to the home plate umpire. And believe me I'm no fan of major league home plate umpires. I've talked to college and high school umpires that don't like it either. Some of them have told me that if the catcher is "pulling" pitches in the strike zone it only proves the pitch is a ball. I've been told and have seen in the past that a catcher is more likely to get a questionable close pitch if he holds glove steady and pitcher hits the glove. Ball and strikes are difficult. I am not in favor of computerized ball and strike calling. I am in favor of getting rid of pitch framing and it's stats. Also shame on the umpires that are fooled by these catchers.

    Nice smooth win last night. Too bad there was only 12,000 in the stands. Attendance around the league in general is down so far. Very few opening day sellouts which was always a gimme on opening day. But that's a discussion for another time. Nice win. Solid pitching. We survived 3 errors and two guys thrown out at home. Strange sending Sano to score when he had no chance. And we had our 35 million dollar superstar ss scheduled to bat next. But nice to win. Go Twins. Dodgers and Red Sox next.

    I still maintain that in the long run it's the pitching that will inevitably doom this team. Granted over the first two games the pitching overall had been decent. The hitting has been very sub par. I'm concerned with the retreads and inexperience throughout the entire pitching staff. Even healthy I don't see this group of starters or relievers making us a contender. I think as the season plays out there will be a lot of questioning about the FO moved and non moves.

    I'm one of those that isn't panicking after only two games. However, last year the Twins started April 5-2 then proceeded to go 4-13 record to finish April 9-15. They essentially lost the season in April and early May last year but all the baseball experts kept telling us it's early. .or the season is a marathon, not a sprint. Essentially implying early April and May games aren't that important. Those experts were wrong. The Twins never recovered and played sloppy and uninspired games most of the season. I'm very like warm on Baldelli. I think his in game management is often times laughable. His determination to stick with the game plan without making in game adjustments is problematic. I would love to see him actually manage instead of letting a computer and all those metrics and analytics do it. I agree that so far the pitching, not withstanding Duffey, has been good. The hitting has been very poor so far. Yes it's only 2 games so no need to panic. But Twins have a tough April schedule and can't afford to throw away wins. It's going to be interesting to see where the Twins stand at the end of April. If the finish April .500 or better, I think they will be in great shape. If they finish April like last year it could be a long season. Let's hope for a win today and Monday against the Mariners to get back to .500. after that we have the Dodgers and Red Sox. Wow.

    Great article. To me the 1969 Twins team was their best ever. Yes even better than the 1987 and 1991 championship teams. .what a duo of Killebrew and Career. I also loved the Mauer/Morneau duo. Buxton/Correa have potential but will have to see how it plays out. It's just unfortunate Buxton has been hurt so much. A great center fielders with a .248 career batting average over 7 major league seasons. We may never know what could have been. He's had a few great months off and on. Give me a full season of a healthy Buxton and hope all his talents bring results.

    It's an interesting trade. I didn't want to see Rogers go. I think that on paper it weakens the bullpen. But we have some good pitchers there. I find it interesting that some people that justified trading Rogers was due to relievers being so unpredictable. Doesn't the same theory hold true with the people currently in the pen? I thought one of the most intriguing aspects was the Twins including $ 6.6 million to San Diego in the deal. That's a lot of money and something the Twins don't do very often. For the Padres it makes the trade a financial bargain as the players will only cost them a little more than major league minimum as they are trying to keep under the $230 million luxury tax threshold. Although I like Rogers, I think in the long run the Twins will benefit.

    Very well thought out predictions. Can't really argue with any of them. It is possible the twins will need to win the division to reach the playoffs. The AL East may generate 4 of the 6 playoff openings. Could be a very fun season. Go Twins!

    Not sure about the trade but it could work out real well for us. Over does not belong in the pen. He needs to start if for no other reason he has earned it. Going to miss Rogers. I'm not sure we have anyone in the pen that can replace him. A lot of changes have been made. I'm still confused by what the FO is trying to do. We still have a couple of pitchers on the starting staff that are reclamation projects that no other team wanted. I'm not sure how that makes us a contender. Offense looks great and is probably going to have to carry the team. Pitching staff is still questionable. I hope it all works out.

    I was on with this until Rogers was included in the trade. Trying to upgrade the starting staff is great. But now we are left with a big hole in the bullpen. Maybe the reliever we got will be good.

    I believe you need good starting pitching as a solid foundation. I guess I'm a neanderthal in that I liked the 3-4 starting pitchers carrying a team. As a fan going to a game the starting pitching matchups helped determine if I would attend. Using the Rays as an example is more of an example of their great scouting and coaching and out of necessity. Winning 100 games is great but very few people in Tampa seem to care. MLB has become nearly unwatchable the past several years. With all the silly rules and shifts and pitching strategies it looks like a giant video game on TV. Yet for all these changes, baseball continues to fall behind the other sports in terms of attendance and tv ratings. Bring back the fun older days of baseball where starting pitchers went 7 or 8 innings. Now days pitchers get accolades if they make it through 5. Starting pitchers are getting paid more and more for pitching less and less. And what about the relievers who pitch several times a week? They are valued more and more and are grossly underpaid for the most part. I'm one that hopes they ban the over shift, does not institute a pitch clock, drops the ghost runner rule, and never adds electronic devices to call balls and strikes.

    I don't want to see Kepler traded either. However it would depend what Twins got for him. The bold predictions are very interesting and all possible. I think if we add a decent starting pitcher we become a viable contender. Our current starting staff is very questionable and won't get us into the playoffs.

    Twins definitely need starting pitching and this would be a good addition depending of course what you have to give up. I've always liked Larnach and think he is going to be a very good major league player. I surely hope Rogers is not part of any trade. He's much to valuable in the pen.

    Just a question here about Smeltzer. Twins need starting pitching. He pitched 11 innings allowing just 5 hits walked 2 and struck out 9. He didn't give up a run which of course explains his 0.00 ERA. I'm assuming Archer took his spot. Over the past couple of years Smeltzer has pitched more than Archer. I'm just curious why he was cut. Anyone have any ideas? A list of the 16 pitchers yes 16, they plan to make the roster shows me there certainly is room to dump one of those. I'm not even a Smeltzer fan pers' I just don't understand the move.

    Great article as usual Nick! My position has been yes you need to see how the pipeline pitchers can do. However not all at once. Gray was a great move but we need one or two more like that to be realistic contenders. At this point it is baffling to have spent $35 mil on a great shortstop but not back it up with solid, reliable starting pitching. What's the point? It's the same philosophy of signing reclamation projects and hoping something works. We saw how it worked last year. Twins were very near the bottom in all of MLB in most meaningful pitching stats. I hope this works out but it is likely not. In that case we will be out of contention by early May like last year.

    Exciting to see the season starting Thursday or maybe Friday depending on the weather. Offense and defense look great. Gray is a solid starting pitcher addition. Other than that the rest of the starting staff is made up of reclamation projects again. Plus two young promising pitchers but very limited experience. I think if we had added one more reliable starter we could have perhaps won up to 90 games this year. But like last year this pitching staff will lose a lot of games for the Twins.

    Great article. Well written and thought out! I think this is the right move. Jeffers has more athleticism and much more potential. Time will tell. We certainly need more than a .199 average from him. I'm thinking .250-.275 would be great.

    Opening day is a big day and that is why most teams send out their top pitcher. The sellout crowd and festivities make it fun. Having said that I am happy for Ryan. I hope he does well. Our pitching staff is going to cost the team a lot of wins this year. I love Ryan's new haircut! Go Twins.

    None of those named with the possible exception of Garlick does much for me. Cave? Come on get serious. He doesn't belong on the 40 man at all. I agree with the guy that said Kirilloff should be the first baseman and Sano the DH. In any case this team will not contend with this pitching staff. The offense and defense will make for an interesting season but strong pitching is essential and we have way too many holes there.

    I'm sorry but comparing Buxton to Trout is ridiculous. It's so sad because he's hurt a lot. He needs to play a full season. To me at least 140 games and 500 plate appearances to see what he can do. Labeling him as one of the great center fielders is a slap on the face to players like Trout who are able to stay on the field (except last year) and produce year after year. These articles claiming Buxton to be a superstar are nearly moronic. A few good offensive months in a SEVEN year career does not make you great. Defensively yes absolutely. He is maybe the best. We will never know how great he may have been without all the injuries. Here's hoping he can have a great season in 2022 and beyond.

    Great article. I think that's the consensus of many Twins fans. I hope they do well but really doubt it as this FO keeps sending out reclamation projects to the pitching mound. They do this year after year and the results reflect their approach. Too many "ifs " but a new season is here. Go Twins!

    For all the cudos the front office received for signing Correa, they should get more slap downs for their continued missteps on the pitching staff, especially starters. The current staff is a joke and will in all likely hood be the downfall of the team thus making the Correa move not that great. It's been a very busy off season but not necessarily a good one. Only time and 90 losses will tell.

    Wow. Now we are attacking youth sports lol! The Twins could very well be out of contention by end of April, first part of May like last year. It's a shame to have so many good hitters and fielder's not backed up by major league pitchers. 35 million for a great one year shortstop? We could have signed a top pitcher or two during the pre- lockout time. I'm still trying to figure out what the teams roster philosophy is this year. We always go dumpster diving for old worn out and failed pitchers while waiting to the end. Strange philosophy.

    Great article as usual Nick. I agree that at some point he will probably be traded but I'm actually thinking it may be some sort of a come back year for him. Maybe 15-20 home runs and 60-75 RBI while playing solid right field. Too bad he can't pitch.

    I agree with the gentleman's rating of a c+. Perfect reasoning. Going into the season our pitching needed upgrading. The addition of Grey was good, the rest meh. Nothing moves the needle for me there. I love the Correa signing but Twins could have signed 2 or 3 free agent pitchers before the lockout began. To me, not being able to spend money for a good pitcher or two was poor planning. If you had monies to spend 35.million on one player they could have filled in at short for a year ( again) and got pitching. This pitching staff, as currently constructed does not make twins a contender. Reclamation projects (again) and inexperienced players. I was very excited after Correa signing that it signalled the twins making more moves to improve the starting staff. Signing Archer is rolling the dice (again). He's only pitched 19 innings last year and none in 2020. He has a history of arm and other troubles. I truly hope it all works out but FO only gets a c+ from me. I'm afraid that all of us that were excited to sign Correas ( including me) will be complaining when we realize he just used us for a year to get a better contract for himself.
