A Letter to MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred
Whitey333 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
That system of paying high school and college players huge bonuses is just plain stupid and has to change. Most of those players never pan out anyway. Why pay a high school player millions in signing bonuses having done nothing to earn it? Also the current commissioner needs to go and the rules that lead to their selection needs to change. Manfred is a joke. The system that allows for the commissioner to be a puppet for the owners is ludicrous. -
Ranking the Top-5 Remaining Free Agent Shortstops
Whitey333 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Signing a high priced SS at this stage seems silly until the fix the starting rotation. What we have now is a AAA starting rotation at best. Maybe some good prospects but definitely unproven. With the FO decision not to pursue any quality pitching why get a SS at a high price? Spend it on pitchers. But it's too late for that too. The bargain basement dumpster diving for pitchers has already begun.- 34 replies

A Letter to MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred
Whitey333 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Crybabies? Yes both sides are. I'm sick of these owners crying poverty all the time and blaming it on the players. The players on the other hand have the best financial contract in all of professional sports, and with no salary caps. There's enough crying towels for everyone. I don't think fans have sympathy for either side. It's just outrageous that baseball has sunk this low to have a work stoppage in view of all the money in the game. It's a big slap in the face for the fans that work for a living. -
CBA Musings (12/2): What’s Happening and What’s Next?
Whitey333 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Through all of this bickering, do the players and owners care about their fans? Obviously not. MLB has been going down hill for quite some time now. If this lockout lasts into the spring and summer, the harm may be irreparable. It's hard for many people to have much sympathy for either side. This so called commissioner seems hellbent on destroying the once great game. All at the behest of the owners. Players if you are not satisfied with an average annual salary, quit. Get a real job. There's plenty of them out there.- 18 replies

Who is New Twins Pitcher Jake Faria?
Whitey333 replied to Lucas Seehafer PT's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The Twins will be in real trouble soon. The dumpster diving will be empty even for them. With the lockout we know they can't sign major league talent, but they seldom do that anyway. -
Imagine that. Twins sign another pitching reclamation project. And they expect fans to get behind more dumpster diving? It's deja Vue all over again. This FO is a joke and needs to be replaced. Now we will have 2 Triple AAA teams in Twin Cities if this is all we wind up doing. What a joke!

What Might Buxton's Future Production Look Like?

Such is the life of us Twins fans being relegated to fantasy baseball. Very entertaining article.- 17 replies

And Ryan and Over at BEST are number 4 starters. They have only 25 games of major league experience behind them. They are going to take some time to develop. Great article. Well researched. It's just always so sad for Twins fans that we have to shop the very bargain basement for pitching help.

Twins Claim Trevor Megill, Outright Jake Cave
Whitey333 replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Typical Twins off season so far. Yes it's only December 1st but the Twins history in recent years is to wait until much later to pursue, much less sign, free agents. This magill/ cave discussion is ridiculous. Just as ridiculous at not tendering manaya and columbe that had much better seasons at the MLB level. In my view if we enter the season with no significant Starting pitching upgrade we will probably be looking at 100 losses next year. -
Baldelli: Pros/Cons and what I think about his future with the Twins
Whitey333 commented on cHawk's blog entry in cHawk’s Blog
Not sure how Baldelli can be labeled a players manager. Too much laptop managing. Also the way he mishandled Gordon especially early on was disgraceful. His refusal to get Maggi in for his major league debut in an otherwise meaningless series was inexcusable. And how about his handling of Shoemaker? On his last game for the Twins he left him out there as he was getting blasted embarrassing him and the Twins. I think he totally mishandles players. But I'm for giving him some more time. Let's put the blame squarely where it belongs: ownership and the Front Office. -
Twins Linked To Cy Young Winner Robbie Ray
Whitey333 replied to John Bonnes's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I hope Buxton can also pitch. If Twins don't upgrade their major league pitching staff it's going to be a very long off season and much longer regular season. Twins sell the fan base the same crap year in and year out. They go cheap and hope they contend. -
Yes indeed. We are happy Buck is signed. I think he got a good deal for a part time player with a career batting average of .248. I hope he can pitch! We don't have much for major league pitching right now. With a very inexperienced staff Twins are going to need Buxton to be as great as ever running down fly balls in the outfield.

Who Will Be Buxton’s Backup in 2022?
Whitey333 replied to Theodore Tollefson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Yes indeed. Chris Taylor was a very big man. He was also a professional wrestler back in the day. He was big. Way too big I'm afraid. I believed he died at age 28.- 34 replies

Probable Work Stoppage Pushes Free Agent Frenzy
Whitey333 replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I doubt the Twins will sign anyone of significance. This happens every off season as they let the decent free agents sign elsewhere and wait until late to sign what's left over. That "strategy" is what has decimated our pitching. It really makes a person wonder if they are at all serious about trying to win. I don't think they care if they stay bottom feeders. Very sad situation but one they have been doing for years. -
Byron Buxton is Here to Stay
Whitey333 replied to Andrew Mahlke's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
OMG. We have three articles on TD dealing with Buxton contract. I'm sure all of us Twins fans are happy. Now maybe we can concentrate on improving the team. While many teams are currently signing pitchers and top talent, the Twins as usual sit back and watch. I'm glad we got Buxton locked in for a few years but it will only do good if we improve the team. Signing Buxton to a long term deal does not improve the team. He's already been here. Let's hope he stays on the field and the FO builds around him. -
CBA Musings (11/26): What’s Happening and What’s Next?
Whitey333 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
We had a very frustrating season last year. It looks to be a gloomy hot (cold) stove league with a lockout looming. Manfred seems hell bent on ruining baseball. He is by far the worst commissioner I have seen. I'm hoping beyond hope that both sides come to their senses and get this thing settled soon. Baseball cannot afford a prolonged lockout. People across the country have faced severe hardships the past couple of years due to the pandemic. It's shameful, arrogant, insensitive, and irresponsible. Billionaires and millionaires arguing over how to split the golden pot of the owners is a slap in the face to their fans and all working people. It's disgraceful!! -
D-Day is Coming for Twins and Buxton
Whitey333 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
$100 mil for MVP performance? Where? Part time players are not MVP. As much as I like Buxton, many of you, in my opinion, are over evaluating, his accomplishments. He hasn't proven that at all due to his limited playing time. His .248 average over 7 seasons does not an MVP make. The Twins have given him 7 years to prove he can stay healthy and produce. He has failed at that. -
Yes some players cheated by taking steroids and other peds. It seems we are talking about a very small number of players. Some of these players even lied to Congress and fans about their usage. So is it ok to cheat to get what you want? For some people I guess it is. To me those great career numbers for those players are definitely tainted. They could have been influenced by illegal substances. And what about the vast majority of players and hall of famers who played by the rules? To let the cheaters in would overshadow their great careers. If the steroid cheaters were such great athletes why did they have to feel the need to cheat? At least the MLB hall of fame has some integrity, much unlike the NFL.

My Take On The Twins' Byron Buxton Conundrum
Whitey333 replied to Lucas Seehafer PT's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
It's almost amusing that people bemoan the fact of trading Buxton for prospects. The same people who are saying the Twins made a haul of prospects on the Berrios trade are worried they will only get prospects for Buxton. Remember prospects are just suspects until they prove themselves at the Major league level. In any case I believe the Twins will mess it up -
Does Seiya Suzuki Fit in Minnesota?
Whitey333 replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Twins sign Suzuki? Why? He can't pitch and will cost more than the major league minimum, so why bother? -
As always, Great article Nick. I don't understand the Cave signing at all. But to me it looks like another indication that payroll is going to be slashed. The off seasons are always frustrating for Twins fans. Just like the prospects we get, a lot of hype but not much substance. They have been in a classic payroll reduction since last spring with their moves. As for a potential lockdown I say: "shame on you" players and owners. Any work stoppage involving billionaire owners and multi millionaire players will only alienate more people from an already dwindling fan base.

CBA Musings (11/19): What’s Happening and What’s Next?
Whitey333 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Manfred is the worst baseball commissioner that I've seen. He's ruined the game with silly new rules, embracing a video game analytical approach while alienating fans and ignoring tradition and what made the game great at one time. But it is quickly becoming unwatchable.- 5 replies

Get Ready for the Opposite of Joe Mauer
Whitey333 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
How can you say it isn't whether Buxton is healthy or not? That IS the question. How do you justify paying him a superstar salary when he hasn't played enough to show us he could be a superstar? Superstars play regularly and produce regularly not very sporadically like Buxton. He's a career .248 hitter over 7 years and needs to step up. I think it's sad he's been hurt so much as we will never know what could have been.- 22 replies

Twins Front Office Getting Burnt on Both Ends
Whitey333 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I totally agree that Buxton will probably still be a Twin on opening day, if we have one. I am so tired of all the Buxton over-hype. In my opinion spending $140 mil over 7 years for a .248 lifetime hitter that plays less than half of games due to injuries, is foolish. Look I like him. I think the Twins need him but big overpaying him will not leave payroll monies for areas of big need. All it will get you is a very wealthy part time center fielder, on a team with little else to offer. I think sanity will bring the issue back to earth and a reasonable contract will be signed.- 27 replies
