Enough with the Miranda experiment at third. Castro/Farmer there until Lewis returns.

Honestly, if not for the fact that each team has to have a representative, we most likely would not have had an all-star rep this season. Nothing against Sonny Gray, but he is a starting pitcher with four wins at all-star break. I am fully aware that his record is skewed by the blown opportunities for wins by the bullpen or lack of run production from what must be best described as one of the worse first half offenses by any team in recent memory. How many first-place teams can say that they did not have one everyday player represented?

Well at least this explains the "Gallo experiment" and why he continues to get at bats in this lineup. Also, explains why we lead the league in strikeouts and are near the bottom in batting average. A recent loss at Detroit shows exactly why this "only swing at mistakes" approach is flawed, as the Twins hit one home run, Detroit scores on three doinks to the outfield and wins 3-1. Another flaw in that strategy is that most home runs hit in that approach are solo shots which can easily be overcome with the contact approach to hitting. And if the reason that Lewis sat last night was due to his inability to follow this philosophy, both the hitting coaches and Baldelli should be gone today.

Game Thread Twins Vs. Braves 6:20 pm CDT
William K Johnson replied to Mortimerkenny21's topic in Archived Game Threads
The problem with tonight's lineup was that with Correa in the four hole and Gallo batting seventh, every time that you would get something started, one of them would come to the plate and neither one can hit. Correa really needs to be dropped in the order, he is simply killing us at the plate at this time. Why didn't Lewis play tonight? -
Put Farmer at second until Polanco gets back. This fascination with prospects who are not ready for the big show (see Jose Miranda) has got to stop.

Some random thoughts: - Can you imagine an infield with Miranda at third and Julien at second? That is scary. - It's time to shut Buxton down. Apparently, he is not physically able to play baseball at this point and it is really dragging this team down. - Trade Max Kepler to Detroit for James Rowson. - Let me see if I have this right. We trade Luis Arraez and sign Joey Gallo and retain Max Kepler and wonder why we can't score runs. - This team is a reflection of their manager. They are laid back, uninspired, and fundamentally flawed.

It would be nice to have their hitting coach. Oh, that's right we did have. Now we have this hitting coach who believes that you swing for the fences on every pitch, including when you have two strikes. Besides that, this team makes so many fundamental mistakes. What was Castro doing going to third with two outs. We were taught in little league not to make the third out at third. Starting to get a little concern with Lewis' throws to first. Finally, as someone who has ripped on Larnach in the past, he was just starting to show some promise when he is sent down. Well, at least we still have Kepler.

Reminds me of a Lee Trevino quote when told he was a lucky golfer, he responded "Funny, the more I practice the luckier I get".

Agree that I thought Kepler should have been at second on Lewis' hit. The home run in the bottom of the inning would have only tied the game.

The Twins Hot Corner Is Settled for the Future
William K Johnson replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The infield of the future is Kiriloff, Lee, Correa and Lewis. You can align Lee and Lewis at 2nd and 3rd, but that should be the strongest infield we can field. Miranda is a DH at best, not sure where to play Julien. The outfield should be Buxton and ........ well, you fill in the blanks. Kinda off subject, but our starting pitchers are as good as I can ever remember us having. They need to extend Gray and concentrate on rebuilding the bullpen.- 47 replies

The game turned in a five-minute span, Castro's line drive double-play, the pop-up that landed in left field, and a bad pitch to Brennan. Going in we know Cleveland only has three hitters in their current lineup, it is hard to accept when one of the non-hitters beats you with three RBI's in the game. Sometimes I think there are games that you are just not destined to win and yesterday was one of those games.

Enough of the Julien experiment at this time. Send him back across the river, put Farmer at second until Polanco returns. Also, how much longer until Wallner supplants either Kepler or Gallo? Did anyone miss Correa and/or Buxton in the lineup last night? Finally, is Willi Castro the Twins MVP through the first third of the season?

A couple of things to chew on this morning: - Do you really expect a lineup with Gallo, Kepler, Buxton, Correa and Taylor to score runs? - Last year, Luis Arraez was leading off, this year it is Joey Gallo - Put Buxton in CF and go with it. Taylor can't hit (see Washington and Kansas City) and Buxton cannot adjust to the DH role. - We are surely reaching the end with Max Kepler. - Hats off to Cole Sands. When he came in yesterday, I was just hoping that we would not get run ruled. However, he kept us in the game. - Why is it I feel that every time Buxton and Correa bat with men on base, a double-play in on the way. - Kyle Farmer and Willie Castro bats are needed in this lineup now.

What Will The Twins Do in Center Field?
William K Johnson replied to Cody Schoenmann's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Is there anyone who thinks Buxton's role as a DH has been successful? Put him in CF where he is an asset to the team which would also allow the Twins to use a real DH, like Solano. Essentially replacing Taylor's bat in the lineup with Solano's, a huge upgrade. -
Umpire strike zones are random for everyone. I, like you, get upset over bad calls we get, but watch a lot of other games and see the same thing. Time for the robo-umpire behind the plate.

Just think, if Polanco is at second and Buxton in center, the game yesterday may still be going on. I am rooting for Urshela and Arraez to both win batting titles. It would have to be the first time a team has traded both batting title champs prior to a season. Oh well, we still have Miranda. Seriously, time to cut the crap and put Buxton in centerfield. If he gets hurt, so be it, we deal with it then. Apparently, the DH role does not suit him. Taylor is a late inning defensive replacement if even at that. With Lewis returning and hopefully playing third base, why don't we move Farmer to second and send Julien down? Instead we send a guy down who was the only consistent hitter in the lineup this weekend. Farmer holds the position until Polanco is back. Put Buxton in center, Kepler in right and DH Wallner and Solano. Gallo in left, Kiriloff at first. This stuff is not that hard.

I am a little confused over Michael A. Taylors hitting philosophy. Does he understand that a pitch over the heart of the plate can be hit a long way? He had an at-bat today where he looked at three pitches that were center cut without swinging at any of them. I appreciate everything he has done this season, but he really needs to be more aggressive at the plate.
