  1. This game just does not appear to be going our way. Castro's stumble at first cost us an early run, the Roverdt hit to left that started the eighth, Diaz two hits that neither traveled 50 feet, a bad call on Martin and the decision to use Sands in a close game. Not looking like our night.
  2. As a former umpire, I noted that as well. However, on replay I also noted that the umpire extended his right arm indicating a delayed dead ball call if Miranda would not have been able to get to the ball. However, he did, and the umpire dropped his right arm immediately. Good mechanics, but still does not take away from how bad this crew has been in this series.
  3. Random thoughts - - Was surprised that Phil Cuzzi wasn't assigned to this series, but tonight's home plate umpire did his best to fill in. There is just a different strike zone for the Yankees. The ball four call on Judge was atrocious. An earlier poster indicated that it did not make a difference in the outcome, I disagree. It ran up Ober's pitch count and frustrated him as well. - Royce Lewis is a real baseball player - With the exception of the catcher position, I liked our lineup tonight. I know we only had two hits, but the defense was good, and that lineup will hit most right-hand pitchers. The problem is going to be when we switch back to that right hand hitting lineup with Margot, Santana, Farmer and Vasquez. Lewis will help with that, but those four bats in the lineup are not going to win many games. - Royce Lewis is a real baseball player - The Jorge Polanco trade will go down as one of the worst Twins trades ever. Keep in mind that includes the Bill Smith era. For the second time in three years the Twins trade a solid major league player to clear room for a prospect (see Gio Urshela). Mistakes like that are not easily overcome. - Royce Lewis is a real baseball player - I realize it is early June but quite honestly, we are playing for a wild card position. Cleveland will run away with this division. Better front-line pitching, unexpected contributions from Freeman, Fry and Brennan, and Classe can pitch every day. Jose Ramirez is the best player in the division and Kwan seems to be over his injury. - Did I mention that Royce Lewis is a real baseball player?
  4. Twins have plenty to offer outside of Jenkins and Lee. With a surplus of left hand hitters, even Larnach and/or Kiriloff should be on the table. Julien and Miranda are both available as well.
  5. Replacing Larnac, Kepler, Kiriloff and Julien with Margot, Farmer, Vasquez, and Santana does not seem to work out very well. Vazquez may be our worst free agent signing ever, and I realize that says a lot.
  6. Miranda's defense at third would be comical if he played for someone else. How much longer until Lewis is back?
  7. All front offices make mistakes. Tampa Bay has made plenty. Cleveland better have a pitcher pipeline, the way they burn through pitchers. There will never be total agreement on everything they do, but as long as they have a solid plan to move forward you live with the errors and move on, kind of like Julein playing second.
  8. Love the winning streak, but a couple of observations: - Why can't we try Castro at leadoff? - Cole Sands in the eighth inning? - Is anyone else beginning to get a little concerned about Kiriloff? - I thought Margot was Buxton insurance. Anyway, this sure is fun.
  9. "grounder up the middle that Julien was able to get to but unable to field cleanly." You can get ready to copy and paste that line the rest of the season.
  10. I will remind you of this quote in July. I guess one of his "skill set" is to guess wrong on a two-strike pitch. Honestly, I hope I am wrong, but he is defensive nightmare and seems to guess too much at the plate.
  11. Yea, like Miranda won me over at third last year. This trade tells me that the Twins think Lee is close.
  12. I'm uncomfortable anytime, anywhere that Julien has a glove on. The biggest advantage of him at first is that he does not have to throw the ball. However, if Buxton, Wallner and Kepler are your outfield, Kiriloff is your first baseman.
  13. Attended Blyleven's induction and just remember it being really hot without any shade. Ceremony is long and parking for the ceremony is a little bit of a hike. Would agree that if you want to tour the Hall, do it on another date.
  14. Will never forget the bomb he hit in Boston.
  15. With Miranda at third and Julien at second, Correa had better prepare for a long season.
  16. I hope Polanco plays second until Lee is ready, then either Lee or Lewis moves to second. This reminds me of the discussion we had this time last year when several on this board were willing to hand third base to Miranda. Well, we know how that worked out. Julien a starter at second would have similar results.
  17. Oh, the guy who can't field or throw. Julien is not the answer at second base.
  18. You can't depend on an umpire's call. If it is close with two strikes, you have to be swinging. I would much rather see a swinging strike out than a looking one.
  19. Not sure if anyone else has commented on this, but being the devil's advocate that I am, it is serious crunch time and that calls for Polanco to second and the Castro/Farmer combo at third until or if Lewis can return there. Mr. Called Strike three totally misplayed the Chapman line drive and Polanco looked awful at third. If not for an incredible play by CC4, this game might have gone in another direction.
  20. Part of Polanco's ankle is issue is that he seems to twist his ankle on every swing. Perhaps a more even approach at the plate is warranted.
  21. Like Miranda last season, I just can't buy into Julien. Way too many strikeouts. It seems like he is always guessing wrong with two strikes on him. Mauer used to take until he had two strikes on him, but he was Joe Mauer. Julien is not Joe Mauer. I hope I am premature in this opinion and will gladly eat crow if he turns it around, but when Lee is ready to play third, Lewis should move to second with Kiriloff at first.
  22. I watched him warming up prior to the game and noticed he was hitting the target from 120 - 150 feet when warming up. I knew he was going to be a tough one yesterday. Why wasn't he the pitcher we got in the Strand-Steer trade?
