  1. Good for Sonny and good move by the Twins IMO. There's no denying Sonny was fantastic last season. There is also no denying that Sonny has had injury problems in the past and he just turned 34 years old AND this was a career year. The Twins will recoup a comp pick which will be very similar to the pick they sent to Cincy to get Gray in the 1st place. Now let's see what the rest of the offseason brings.
  2. I think Balazovic for another season, but he really needs to work in the offseason. He has decent stuff, but he really needs to work on his out pitch. He throws way too many pitches by wasting them. I still think there is hope, but the clock is ticking.
  3. So might as well just give it to Dave Roberts because the Dodgers won 104 games?
  4. We have no idea what the plan for Ryan was. It could have been once through the lineup all along. Abreu was the 3rd batter Thielbar faced, he was facing him no matter what when he was brought into the game. Thielbar was brought in to face Alvarez, Tucker, Abreu and Brantley. 3 lefties and a righty. Unfortunately Abreu beat him.
  5. It was 1-1 when Ryan was lifted in 3rd. The game finished 3-2. If the Twins had lost this game 8-6 and the bullpen got rocked you might have an argument, but the entire pen giving up 2 runs over 7 innings and losing because the offense couldn't muster more than 2 hits over the rest of the ballgame makes your point moot.
  6. How were they outmanaged? The bullpen game worked, Houston scored 3 runs. Twins offense scored 3 runs in 2 home games. How is that being out managed? That is the bats not getting it done, especially when they had a lot of opportunities. I don't get why so many people want to make Rocco the scapegoat. The bats didn't get it done. Hitting with RISP was abymsal and the reason they lost this series. In the AJ quote goes the same way. One Jose Abreu swing won the game, because the Twins couldn't match it. If anyone honestly thinks that Joe Ryan would have went 8 innings of one run ball and the Twins would have won 2-1? You gotta score to win games.
  7. After the fact you can nitpick everything. The bullpen was incredible. Thielbar threw one bad pitch to Abreu. Other than that the own was lights out for 7 innings. You couldn't have asked for much more. The Twins batters had 7 innings to score 2 runs to tie. Tayor was 2-13, 2 singles with 5 K's in the playoffs, I like the play with Buck, unfortunately he got jammed. I like the Twins future. They made it this far with a very inexperienced club. They got beat by a better team.
  8. The Astros have one of the most playoff experienced core group of guys you will likely find out there. Experience and being around guys who have routinely played in big games matters. They haven't missed an ALCS since 2016, while this years team doesn't seem as strong, they still have some damn talented players. For the Twins you have a lot of guys playing in big games in the firs time in their career. I'm sure the butterflies are there, I am sure some are feeling more pressure than usual, I really think it comes with the territory. I do think a lot of guys pressed today. Huge win Sunday, home crowd and they got punched in the mouth out of the gates and never recovered. Re-group, hope the jitters of the big time game go away and lace up the spikes tomorrow. You can't teach experience.
  9. A better comparison to both of them would be trading AJ to make room for Mauer. An All-Star in 2002, and an even better year at the dish in 2003. Traded as a 26 year old to give the starting position to Joe in 04 as a true rookie. Mauer was that special talent you compared to Acuna, Franco. in an earlier post.
  10. But it's not. Having a team full of gold glove players compared to a team of all below average defenders would effect ERA by a ton. Even having plus defenders at the important positions can shave off several runs over the course of the season. Two pitchers could have ERA's of 2.75 and 3.25 and pitch exactly the same, but can't change who is on the diamond behind them. It's like saying there is no better measurement to a hitter's power than HR, then point out that one player plays in a home park with fences 20-30 feet further in every field. One play could have 10 HR that traveled 331 feet that all left the short porch in right while the other play could have 10 fly outs of 331 feet which were warning track power.
  11. Because generally teams trade veterans for young talent, not their #1 prospect?
  12. How often to you see a non-roster invitee to Spring Training turn up to in the talks to be the team's MVP at the end of the season? Pretty crazy!
  13. Stay healthy. Get the pitching rotation in order. Twins cannot control who they are going to face, so sit back and watch it all unfold.
  14. If you are expecting a front office to be right on every player and hit on every player, then yes you shouldn't trust any front office. In reality you probably should be hoping a front office is right more than they are wrong. Even the best front office in the world have a list of players they bet on that failed, draft picks that didn't pan out and players they signed that under performed. I think it's all good and well to question front office moves, but when wrong moves are pounded over and over and over again and the right moves are rarely lauded because you are expecting them to make the correct move each time, you are probably going to have a bad time and be frustrated more than you should be.
  15. Arraez will always be a favorite of mine and I was only luke warm on Pablo when the Twins traded for him. After watching him start hot and fade in May/June, I was worried he was falling into a pattern of being great out of the gate and fading as the season went along. Boy has the last 2.5 months put that to rest, he has looked like a bonafide ace and one of the better pitchers in the game. I do think Arraez's knees long term are still an issue. Just because he hasn't had problems this year, doesn't mean it won't be a problem down the road. I am interested to see what his extension will look like.
  16. That he should probably work pretty hard on hitting left handed pitching in the offseason.
  17. And Jax in the 10th when the Twins don't score in the 9th? Have to assume you would see Duran in the 10th if you make it that far. I'm not using Duran in the 9th of a tie game unless you know he can for 2 innings, which..... with pitching yesterday and having 7 Straight games after today doesn't seem smart
  18. Unfortunately that has always been Wallner's issue. Expecting anything below a 30% K rate probably isn't going to happen.
  19. I'd be willing to bet Jorge is back and starting at 2B opening day. Just a feeling.
  20. I think it's a tricky situation. You don't often see a player as inexperienced as Julien who shows the combined eye at the plate and potential power as Julien. The Twins do have the luxury of having multiple young options though. Young pitching us always intriguing, but I think I hang onto him thru the offseason and see what he can do with more ABs.
  21. I'm not sure trailing by 5 games in the division on September 1st is really making the Cleveland folks chuckle all that much. If they overcome the deficit, sure laugh away.
  22. If Cleveland wins the division that means the Twins lost it, period. Everyone is so worried about a team that is 6 games under .500 right now. The Twins take care of business and Cleveland is an afterthought. Adding 2 relievers and a struggling starter doesn't make them a super team. If the Twins play better than .500 ball to finish the season they win the division by 5+ games. Book it.
