    I can’t remember the name of the former frequent commenter from New York who was a frequent advocate for trading for DeRosa. Maybe DeRosa is still butt hurt that the trade never happened.

    Some people are “conditioned” to see what could be in a player, some people are conditioned to see what the player is not. Considering that the team is down to the fifth or sixth option in CF, cutting some slack to the current CF option would seem reasonable. Some are not “conditioned” to do that.

The calculator is wrong. That was the point. Sonny Gray in New York did his best imitation of Josh Becket in Boston. Becket had done his best imitation of Carl Pavano in New York. Pavano was not the first player who went to the big two cities and fell flat..

    If Pineda is not hurt the Yankees do not make the trade.. Severino and Montgomery were young and upcoming, Tanaka and And Sabathia had longer contracts. With a healthy Pineda there is no need for Gray. He was dumped for peanuts

    The value in Gray and Quintana were not in the length of contract. The Cubs were coming off a WS win and desperate to contend in the window. Pineda went down and the Yankees needed another starter. Supply and desperation determine the price paid, not the contract.

    Sonny Grey in a mid season deal netted 2 top 100 prospects, Quintana netted a top 15 and a top 100 prospect. There is an error in your calculator.

    The Yankees probably have had their share of expensive oft injured outfielders on large contracts. Ellsberg, Stanton, Hicks, Judge. Boston has also had recent experience with the expensive injury bug. The Dodgers are pretty set in the outfield.

    Theron lies the delegation. You don’t sign an oft injured player to a large deal. Buxton was not going to sign a team friendly deal. The same applies to trading him. You are not going to get an amazing return for a less than full time player. It isn’t on the FO in this case.

    What 5 players could not be traded is more appropriate to any conversation about trades. Any player can be dealt for a price. The question is what is the price? Buxton on a trade list. Last week it was the FO were idiots for not extending him

    Varela has never been a hitting coach before, nor at this point likely to be poached for another job. Hernandez was not a hitting coach before he got the current position. He had been the assistant to Brunansky and Rowson yet not promoted after 6 years. That is telling his skill level. The Twins have people with a title.
