  1. I once read “that being said” following a statement pretty much negates that statement. You can’t negate the person running the team. There is no closer this year.
  2. Throw strikes. One Rick Anderson used to say that,
  3. One thing that people talk about here when looking at statistics are outliers.. The Chicago numbers against weak teams are an outlier.. They lost the division lead when they did not beat the better teams down the stretch. I don’t know if adding Lance Lynn solves that problem. To win the division the Twins best bet would be to have a better than .500 record against the Sox. If they do as last year and win the season series against the other teams they will be in good shape until the playoffs.
  4. Gonzales was polarizing here? Missed that one
  5. Only 3 players project to have an above average bat in the system. Ouch
  6. If they think Kirikkoff is going to be a superstar level they will manipulate service time. I don’t think they expect that level out of him.Given the contracts of the above average players they have extended, another above average outfielder is not going to break the bank, nor has it been that difficult to replace.
  7. It is not just the 5th starter, it is the 5/6/7/8 starter. One does not expect performance issues from their 1-4 starters. Injuries do happen, hence the 6/7 starters Disaster happens. Nagging annoying stuff happens to pitchers. There is a need for an 8th. You do not want 8 starts out of a new version of Pedro Hernandez. Dobnak Smelzer and Thorpe might not be appealing to the management hence the interest in a pitcher likely to cause the team to need number 6 and 7 starter.
  8. It is intended for a different fan base.
  9. Percolate states that they do mot give a number but a range. What is posted but a definite number. Percolate does tend to be more accurate for teams Shorter spring games means less minor league players showing what they can do against other minor league players
  10. I always thought betting lines were about one way or another extracting money out of people. I was wrong. It is about getting you to drink Kool-Aid. Hmm. Rather have a beer.
  11. Mot so long ago Marcus Peery was a candidate, I wonder whatever happened to him
  12. Old school got to the playoffs, new school got to the playoffs. That is a far better than the Mariners this century. They have gone as far as the A’s this century. They have done better than the Padres at getting to the playoffs. Complain all you want about lack of playoff success, that is the nature of baseball.
  13. The management loves sliders. Castro’s lacks depth. Another organization couldn’t fix it in years, why would the Twins be able to. Bryant may be mentally damaged goods at this point. He had the brightest manager in all of baseball, the genius of all geniuses in baseball operations and only 1 trip to the World Series. Now it is not fun. Unmet expectations when you are the big star would not be any fun here, either
  14. WPA and related statistics did not like Brunansky.
  15. Projections as a team are far more accurate than for individuals
  16. A minor league deal is a wonderful thing. A free look is cheap.
  17. Story for a 5-10 prospect and a 10-20 prospect would make sense. Dealing good prospects to Cleveland does not. Dealing bad prospects to Cleveland does.
  18. I don’t pay for the story, so here is my ignorant take on it. Polanco has bad defensive metrics. It would not be anything other than due diligence to shop for a SS. There is nothing earth shaking there. Realmuto was the last star player that I can think of that was traded. Sanchez was a top ranked prospect, Alfaro is serviceable and a wild card. One year of Lindor or Story should not cost that kind of capital. The good prospect you trade should be the one you do not think is going to reach that potential. The ifs of a Twins deep run in the playoffs was not answered last year. They should not mortgage the future for one year that far from contention.
  19. I think if Arraez does not work at second Polanco would have to shift to second and Lewis comes up.
  20. The tea leaves have predicted Covid isn’t going away any time soon. No fans means less money. The “They don’t care about us” is pretty selfish. Everybody loses in the pandemic. The new owners of FSN playing hardball with the revenue streams. That does not seem out of the ordinary. Where is the they do not care about the fans comment there?
  21. There wasn’t much in the garbage heap that year for 3B. Be happy that he did not spend more. Beltre was about it. Carl wasn’t likely to approve that contract. The context of analytics is pretty moot with that group. Bautista at least had a decent recent ceiling. Wes Helms had his best season ever. I don’t think he would have been on anyone’s radar. I doubt many have heard of him. (Levi, are you still alive to tell me you heard of him?)
  22. The 2018 Twins were going nowhere. Lance Lynn was a sunk cost regardless. The team was not going to put a franchise tag on him. He was going to be gone regardless. They got a player that a change of scenery might benefit. It did not work. Had it worked the Twins would have not been as likely to have signed Cruz. The team in the end won. The Yankees went nowhere in the playoffs with Lynn. Even if nothing became of the prospects, the Yankees got nothing out of Lynn when they needed it. I did not consider the throw in, Rijo has a chance to be something. If he does, it becomes a big win rather than a small win.
  23. Hey man is reporting that Levine turned down the Phillies and got a raise. There is no poaching, there never was
