  1. The context of the exchange was about signing free agent. That you think it was about the labor agreement is your opinion
  2. On an either or situation Cave at least gives you a CF when you have an oft injured one. As needing them for full time starters, neither. As 4/5 outfielders, who cares
  3. 3 pitchers signed, One to the team he played for, one on a one year build value contract. Neither will anchor the team. Two play a waiting game The teams and the players,. The Rodriguez signing shows that either he wanted to play in Detroit or the market is not going to be as high as people seem to think. The latter may be confirmed by what Berrios signed for. If the market is not going to be as hot the players will wait.
  4. What is about to materialize? IDK and neither does anyone else. 2 arms coming off injury signed. Rodriguez is quality pitching. The need is for higher than that….
  5. Chicken Little articles before Thanksgiving, Months to go before the season starts. As Morrison once said “We want the world and we want it now”
  6. The issue is mitigated in large part due to the playoff structure. Right now only 2 teams have no shot at the playoffs There is hope until late in the season. Not so in baseball. A quick turnaround can happen in football with a good draft and a few acquisitions. That does not happen in baseball. Very few draftees can play in the majors within the year after they were drafted. Relatively cheap signings that have an impact in baseball are the bounce back players like Robbie Ray.. Football has the Linval Joseph type contracts, relatively cheap, huge impact. The differences how they operate incomparable for a model for business
  7. You just shot down your own proposal. Nice job.
  8. Spending money does not always make for a more competitive team. Telling them to spend more money is not going to fix anything. The leagues with salary floors do not see a parity. Mediocrity as opposed to very bad does not improve revenue.
  9. It is debatable that it really works in the NFL. The Lions continue to do poorly while the Patriots have won how many titles?
  10. There is an incorrect assumption that players sign simply for the max money. Ignore all of the under slot signings. It assumes players will go for the highest amount of money. That has not been the case even in free agency, Winning organizations will draw more and better talent than the have nots. The rich will get richer. Try looking at attendance for teams as it relates to winning, There are outliers like Tampa, but there usually are outliers in anything.
  11. One thing that will not change is the ultimate flow of money. Like college football, the rich get richer in your proposal. Why not call for there to be the dozen wealthy teams and let the rest wither and die
  12. The Twins were nowhere near a revenue floor and still were on pace for a hundred loss season. Then they got rid of much of what they spent money on. Salary floors working is male cow dung
  13. For every Harper there is a bust. With the second pick it gets worse. Alleged tanking is no guarantee of anything other than chasing fans from the stadium. The KC Royals lost 1.2 million fans by the 4th year of losing. Their revenue per fan is over 50 a person. Losing does not replace scouting, nor is it profitable
  14. Given what happened last year the club may keep as many of the prospect pitchers as they can, hoping they can sign the gems they found last year to minor league deals, That could be as many as 6.
  15. It is not just adding the prospects, it is also making room for the pitching and position player adds in free agency. It would not be unreasonable to think which one of Garlick, Cave or Contreras does the team keep. The 5-9 starters ends up a debate. Barnes, Dobnak, Jax, Smeltzer or Thorpe. Will it be reasonable to think Balazovic or WInder will be ready and better than 2 on the list. Are Cotton, Coulumbe, Garza, Minyana or Stashak indispensable. Can or do you move one of Sano, Larnach, or Rooker for a pitcher? Have we seen the last of a Turtle? There are a lot of decisions to be made. It is likely half of these players need to go somewhere
  16. Nothing said it was an all or none proposition for the team. No one advocated that. A 3 inning good pitcher should get the team further than a bad starter.
  17. If they pitch 3 innings every 4th day that would be 120 innings for a season That would be as productive as 4 innings every 5th day. With better results it is a better plan. Considering player potential, and past outcomes they have nothing to lose by trying
  18. A Wood or Kluber signing to me would show that the FO thinks a minor leaguer is near ready but not quite, They would hopefully hold together long enough to get through the early part of the season. If they last longer, great. It is more of an expense than they made last year but hopefully they learned about too much of a bargain isn’t a bargain. Oft injured pitchers tend to continue to be oft injured. They are filler and hope rather than building blocks. Stroganoff (got to love auto correct) Stroman would be a building block that they need.. Stroganoff on the other hand might be a good post game meal
  19. A fairly complete list of the bargain bin MLB.Com name age and fwar Kwang Hyun Kim (33, 1.8) Brett Anderson (34, 1.5) Corey Kluber (36, 1.5) Matt Harvey (33, 1.4) Zach Davies (29, 1.4) Drew Smyly (33, 1.3) Michael Wacha (30, 1.1) Trevor Cahill (33, 0.9) Wily Peralta (33, 0.7) Tommy Milone (35, 0.6) Chris Ellis (29, 0.4) José Quintana (33, 0.5) Aaron Sanchez (29, 0.4) Vince Velasquez (30, 0.4) James Paxton (33, 0.4) Mike Fiers (37, 0.3) Chi Chi González (30, 0.3) José Ureña (30, 0.3) Jon Lester (38, 0.3) Carlos Martínez (30, 0.3) Chris Archer (33, 0.2) Cole Hamels (38, 0.1) Ervin Santana (39, 0.1) Sean Nolin (32, 0.1) Ivan Nova (35, -0.1) Thomas Eshelman (28, -0.1) Scott Kazmir (38, -0.2) Matt Moore (33, -0.2) Jordan Lyles (31, -0.2) Jake Arrieta (36, -0.2) Chase Anderson (34, -0.4) Tanner Roark (35, -0.7) Julio Teheran (31, -0.9) Mike Foltynewicz (30, -1.1) Choose wisely grasshopper
  20. The Judge, Jury and Executioner is the FO. The hope is that justice is not blind
  21. Francis had his shoulder blow out long before he left Colorado. He was not the same pitcher after the injury That is a far different scenario than Gray. Jimenez was traded from Colorado hence did not leave as a free agent. Service time wise he was nowhere close to being a free agent when traded. Again, no similarity to Gray
  22. You did not say pitcher. . Good pitchers and the Rockies have not been linked very often so the sample size is likely what you can count on one hand.. How about the onus on you to name a few pitchers who provided 3 war that left the Rockies as free agents
  23. Worse than Nishioka? No way in hades
  24. Worse than signing Nolasco, Pelf or Kevin Correia? Worse than Tony Bautista? Tommy Herr ? Worse than a lot of the first round draft picks.
  25. You are expecting people to be rational here? Dang, you seemed so much smarter than that
