Expect the Twins will sign at least one of this trio to some type of extension. Who will depend on their respective health and success during spring training and early this season. Also hopeful that they extend Lopex prior to the trading deadline. He may be the most important to extend and the one they could go a bit longer on.

Twins 2023 Position Analysis: Shortstop
roger replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
One of the best in the game with at least two potential future stars. Sure seems to me that the Twins are set for the next decade. Where they play is what the Manager gets paid to decide. Should be fun watching'em.- 13 replies

Ryan Jeffers is Facing an Uphill Battle

Anyone watch yesterday’s game against the Sox. They ran at will on Jeffers. Glad to see someone present hard data confirming what my eyes have seen of this player. -
5 Questions Facing the Twins Top 5 Prospects in 2023
roger replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
I honestly believe Lewis and Lee will both play for the Twins this year. And I am not talking about only a cup of coffee. They are special young men and will be leaders of this team for much of the next decade.- 31 replies

Report from The Fort: Injury Updates
roger replied to John Bonnes's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Thanks, John. Got a good smile out of the comment regarding Gordon's betting. Thanks! Like several above, not concerned with AK being back by opening day or late April. Just want him back and playing the rest of the year like we expect he is capable of. Would be damn bloody shame if this kid doesn't have the career he was destined to have. John, your photo and several comments seem to indicate that games haven't been sell outs. Is that correct? If so, how down is attendance? Imagine with the damage caused by the hurricane lodging is both hard to find and very expensive.- 13 replies

5 Questions Facing the Twins Top 5 Prospects in 2023
roger replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
I will be both disappointed and surprised if Lee doesn't play for the Twins this year. Only questions seem to be when and at what position? Likewise excited waiting for Lewis to finally join the Twins, for good. Hopefully, he is back by the 4th of July. Like Lee, where will he be in the field? You have seen me comment way too often that other teams have had that young stud break in when he was 19 or 20. You know, guys like Acuna or the Robin Yount's of yesteryear. Can Em Rodriguez be that player for the Twins? Sure would be nice, wouldn't it? Love Raya and want to see him have an eye popping season at Wichita before the year is over. Really like Julien. Just don't know how he is going to fit on this team. Will he stick as a utility guy who can play several infield positions, while spending most games as a DH? Don't see how he can be their second baseman as I expect that to be either Lee or Lewis, with the other at third. And the problem that scenario creates is it pushes Miranda to backup first base and DH. Expect we are gonna see one of this young group moving on, just don't know who.- 31 replies

Can Edouard Julien Hit Enough to Stick at Second?
roger replied to Greggory Masterson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
It is not a given that he will be bad defensively. The kid is young with what, two years pro experience? With experience his D will improve. We will have to wait to see how much. -
Twins Roster Built on Defense and Rule Changes
roger replied to Alex Boxwell's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Very interesting, thanks. Count me among those who are in favor of the pitch clock. Recall that first game Varland pitched last fall in Yankee stadium. Seemed like each half inning was over shortly after it began. Loved that pace. Better yet, if 6:40 weeknight games are over by 9 and before dark, some of us old timers may think about seeing a couple rather than just Thursday afternoons.- 33 replies

Could The Twins Roll With A Long Reliever?
roger replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Really happy to see Dobber have a couple good outings after his first appearance of the spring. Although not a long reliever, am ecstatic with how Alcala has thrown the last couple times out. Was it 3 K's in one inning yesterday? Interesting Cody how you have determined that Mr. Ober is a 'certainty to end up in the bullpen.' Would expect that Bailey would very likely disagree with you. And he sure has been pitching as well as anyone on the staff.- 29 replies

Twins 2023 Position Analysis: Second Base
roger replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Thanks, Nick. Found it interesting that you mention Lewis at second as an afterthought and don't mention Lee at all. Assuming they both become the players we expect and Correa remains healthy, one is going to have to be at second a year or two down the road. Considering what we have seen from Lee the past week, I can't wait to see that infield of Lee, Correa and Lewis! So I guess that means that eventually, Polo must go. That will be a shame as he is a real class act.- 19 replies

Interesting young man, Jamie. Thanks. Many great players come from lesser known beginnings. In a couple years we will know if Mr. Ross is one of them. Must say it sure was an interesting start to his career.

Fantastic read, thanks Seth. What an unbelievable experience growing up. Sure helps the future to have the opportunities he had in Atlanta. Recall hearing about him last summer, didn't realize his K numbers were that exceptional. Let's cross our fingers that the Twins got a good one who could appear at Target Field by what, early summer 2024?

Twins 2023 Position Analysis: First Base
roger replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Thanks, Nick, for another excellent report. I pray that AK is in the Twins lineup in a week or ten days and when the season opens at KC he is the starting first baseman. I remain hopeful, that five years from now we will look back and see that AK has been the Twins first baseman in 140+ games every year, including 2023. If he is, the Twins lineup will be dangerous, very dangerous.- 41 replies

Twins 2023 Position Analysis: Catcher
roger replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Great article, Nick. Prior to the off-season I was of the opinion that catcher was the #1 need for the winter. Was hoping they would: 1) bring in a solid starter so Jeffers would become a backup, not co-starter; 2) sign a not too old veteran to a MiLB contract at St. Paul to both work with that young staff and be available to be added to the 40-man and called up when/if an injury happens; and 3) complete a trade to bring in a good prospect at Hi-A or AA. Well, two of three ain't bad and they got three of those guys for St. Paul. But you nailed it when you said that the pipeline for catchers doesn't exist. May be a couple guys in the lower levels, but trading Rortvedt cost them their only prospect at the higher levels. As last year, I am praying there is a top catcher available high in this year's draft. Unlikely at #5, but hopefully one of the top guys will fall to them with their second pick. Would also be nice if they could manufacture a trade over the next few months with one of those outfielders, plus another player, for a very good AA prospect.- 39 replies

Twins' Spring Training Roster Projection, Two Weeks In
roger replied to John Bonnes's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Have you watched him in spring training? Couple days ago he had a hard hit double and home run. Few agree with me, but I believe his problems were mostly psychological as the shift really affected his psyche. I look for him to be a totally different player in 2023. Understand I may be in the minority with that view, tiny minority.- 30 replies

Twins' Spring Training Roster Projection, Two Weeks In
roger replied to John Bonnes's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Have said it often over the winter that Kepler just might have a big year in 2023. Believe that the shift flat out messed with his head. It’s only a few games, but he looks like a totally different player to me.- 30 replies

Finding a No. 1 Starter: A Game of Musical Chairs
roger replied to Hans Birkeland's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Here we go again with another article suggesting they trade most of their best prospects for that elusive ACE. Bah Humbug! The Twins have built a very deep starting rotation of quality starters with several top young prospects very close. Plus, they should have Paddack coming back late this year. If their #2-#5 match up favorably with the oppositions #2-#5, they are gonna win a lot of series. I maintain their #2-#5 will be equal to or better than most teams, including those in the playoffs. -
Saints Setting Up for Loaded Rotation
roger replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Agree with your statement, Cody, that the Saints starting rotation should be good...very good. And isn't it exciting that they are younger prospects and not older AAAA guys picked up over the winter? If what I read about the incident was correct, must comment on your comment about Balazovic being "punched at a Fort Myers bar." That gives us the impression it was a 'bar fight.' What I read was that he was walking down the street when he met someone who punched him twice with the second punch the one that broke his jaw. Yes, he was near a bar, but there was no indication he or the other person were in it. When I first heard of the incident, I thought that was dumb on his part. Yet, the article stated that the police are searching for the person who hit him who if found, will presumably be charged.- 31 replies

Jim Pohlad was a businessman who inherited the role of Twin Chair from his father. Joe has been groomed for his role as chairman since graduating from Boston College in the early 2000's. Between graduation and joining the Twins in 2007, Joe was working at the League offices in New York. I am not aware of what his job/responsibilites were while with the League, but it certainly provided valuable experience and contacts when moving back to the Twin Cities. With 15 years of experience the Pohlad who is now in charge is a 'baseball man.'

The Natural: Brooks Lee Is Special, and the Twins Know It
roger replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Those of you who recall my comments over the past decade will remember that I often ask: "why can't Twins prospect X be the next Acuna or Robin Yount or whomever fits?" I will continue to dream and ask this question, which has yet been answered with prospect X being that star. Although their age is different, why can't Lee be the Twins Robin Yount? If memory serves, Yount was drafted at 18 and called up during the following season. Can Lee be called up this year? Certainly. Will he? Now that's another question. And if he is, where does he play? With Lewis also on the horizon the Twins certainly have their backup for Correa should he be injured. If not, gonna have to fit this duo into second and third? Don't know what that means for Julien, Miranda or Polonco.- 49 replies

Starter or Reliever Series: Josh Winder
roger replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
None of us have a clue what the Twins plans are for this young man. Nor do we know the real condition of his shoulder. What I do know is that I really enjoyed watching him pitch in the minors two years ago when he was as good as anyone in the organization. Hopefully, he can get his health back and stay healthy. Then will be fun to watch him be successful in whatever role the Twins determine is best for he and the team.
