  1. Agree 100% with what you are saying, Squirrel. But had they kept Arraez they would be one player closer to the answer. And a guy getting on base over 40% of the time is a great start to answering the call.
  2. Thanks. Was thinking it may have been part of a Dodgers trade, didn't realize it was both coming and going. Loved his production at Rochester (AAA) those few months he was with the Twins.
  3. Isn't the proper whatever they are called to link my thoughts to this DJL44. What I wanted to click was "interesting."
  4. Watched the entire game last night and was as depressed as have ever been watching the Twins. Appears that Varland got outta whack after the ump blew the call giving Raley a lead off triple. Don't misunderstand, I am not saying that call cost us the game. But it did seem to rattle him. Was thinking about Raley a lot last night and couldn't remember what the Twins got when he was traded. I think he was a throw in, but many of us thought the kid could play. What was most discouraging is that there aren't a lot of big, well known names in that Rays lineup. I don't follow the game like I used to, but other than Franco and Raley, I didn't know anyone. Correct me if I am wrong, but I am assuming their payroll remains towards the bottom of baseball. Yet, they have the best record in the game. Why? They don't strike out, they put the ball in play and come thru in the clutch. Isn't that three important aspects of the game the Twins don't do? Why don't the Twins do so many of the things that win games? Only answer I can think of is coaching. I refuse to believe that all these guys with the talent to make it to the big leagues can't do what it takes to win. That is unless the coaching they get doesn't emphasize it. So add me to the list that believes the entire coaching staff, top on down, needs to go. Will agree with the above comments that you don't do it until the off-season, but it has to happen. And if the FO doesn't realize that, then young Pohlad needs to make changes there also. As we go thru the last 3+ months of the season, I pray that AK and Lewis have the will power to not allow all these bad habits/coaching destroy what should be phenomenal careers,
  5. If Spencer Steer was still with the Twins he would either, A) be playing in St. Paul, or more likely, B) be platooning and hitting .195 average while striking out every third at bat.
  6. Must agree that it sure looks like the Twins have decided to groom Balazovic for a long relief role. He has the stuff, just seems to find ways to not put it together for a consistent stretch. Maybe they have their fingers crossed that he could be one of the answers for their bullpen woes later this summer. Looking at how the guys in that FCL lineup did in the DSL last summer. HOLY COW! The first seven all had averages of near .300 with most well over .300. I don't know if the pitching in the DSL last year was not up to their norm, but I don't recall ever seeing a group hit like that. Certainly not for the Twins. Now will the Twins coaching allow them to maintain that natural talent as they work their way towards Target Field?
  7. Thanks, Seth, for bringing us news from these really young kids. Add me to those who would like to see you reporting on this group separate from the four full season teams. I know it is one game, but could Peña be the answer to every Twins fan prayers? A catcher who is great both behind the dish and with his bat? Several very interesting young kids in this group, with Acuna, Lara and Silva leading the way.
  8. You may need more time to evaluate Sabato, Cody. I don't, the kid was a bad pick when they drafted him and has proven to be a bust on the field. Reminds me of that Sanchez kid however long ago who was supposed to be the best power bat out of high school. Don't recall how far he got, maybe Hi-A? Absolutely loved Raya when selected and after all the injury delays looks like a good one. Although the jury is still deliberating, Rosario might also turn out to be special. For those of us that miss our former Rosario, would be good if this kid makes it big..
  9. Four very hot bats at St. Paul. Only problem is only Larnach is barely ok defensively. Not so much from Wallner, Miranda and Julien. Hopefully, they make good use of their time in AAA and work to become at least average in the field. Will Wallner or Larnach continue hitting well if brought up to the Twins full time? Sure would like to think so. I have been amongst the biggest fans of Max Kepler since he was signed way back whenever. But then I value defense. Max plays right field as well as anyone and when healthy, runs well. But not only has he been in a hitting slump seemingly forever, but his legs seem to be a problem every month or so. Love what he has brought to the Twins, but the Twins need more punch in their lineup and Max has been an automatic out for too long Don't know what move the FO will make, but they need either Larnach or Wallner back, soon.
  10. Agree with you, wabene, 100%. But do you really believe the Twins will do that? I don’t.
  11. I am saddened with Buxton not in center. Whether it be baseball, football or hockey, I love great D. And Buxton is as good as it gets. None of us know the real situation with his knee. I guess the good news is that getting nailed in the ribs will give the knee a few days of rest. Other than that, I pray we will see Buck back in center before the season ends.
  12. Have liked Rosario since the day he was picked. Great numbers from Julien, Waller and Larnach. Add Miranda to that group and you have a foursome who might be good to very good hitters. Only problem is none are solid defensively and you can lose more games by bad defense than they will win with their bats. Watching Lewis play third last night made it very clear how important defense is. Hopefully one or more of these young men will work hard and improve their D.
  13. Looking forward to how Enlow will pitch today. Results of late very encouraging. How many pitches will Maeda have today, 70? One more start next week and he will be back. Twins need help in the pen and will have six starters. Gonna be interesting to see if they use the situation to fix the pen or make the easy decision and send Varland to St Paul.
  14. Easy decision for me. Would begin with the one who is paid the most, Mr. Correa. Love this kid's defense, fantastic. But for the hundreds of millions they will be paying him, he has to get it done with the bat. So far this year he has contributed very little offensively, heck Royce Lewis has contributed more and he has only played three games. For my next candidate, simple, go to the man making the second most money. And I am not going to throw stones at Buxton, rather the Twins/Manager for not utilizing his biggest strength. OK, I understand breaking him into the season slowly and putting him at DH for a month or so when the weather made playing in the field more risky. But the time to get him out in the field was at least a month ago. Also have read elsewhere today that he tends to hit better when playing center. So he would be second on my list, although little of the damage is in his hands. Won't go beyond these two as I am already to down today because I can't watch my team tonight as they are on Apple TV. Booooo!
  15. 100% agree with what your are saying Blyleven2011. But the question is, do you really expect them to do either? Expect most of us here at TD would do one or the other. But I seriously doubt the Twins would make either decision.
  16. One of your comments caught my attention. On the mound he is pitching like someone who should be here to stay. But, will he? Maeda began his rehab as a starter going what was it, 3+ innings? Expect they will stretch him out to 5+ by the time his 20 days (is it 30 for pitchers?) are up. When his rehab is up he will return to the Twins. Every indication is that will be as a starter. Don't see them going to a six man rotation, do you? Although another injury could solve this dilemma, I expect Varland will return to St. Paul without a corresponding injury opening a spot for him to stay. The good news is that when another injury occurs, the Twins have a pitcher ready who will pitch as well, or better, than the man going down.
  17. The best news in my eyes was ERod going 3-6, plus a walk. Granted, the Kernels weren't facing Cy Young. But any great night for this young man should be a step in the right direction. Appears Thielbar should be ready to stay on the West side of the river. After a few good outings that are now well in the rear view mirror, not certain Balazovic will ever make that drive. We keep reading stories and comments about how well Wallner is hitting. My interest would be peaked if I could learn something, or anything, about what he is doing to improve his D.
  18. So happy for AK and the Twins. Hopefully, the wrist will become a distant memory. You said Jeffers had three extra base hits, a pair of doubles and a pair of home runs. Aren’t two pair four?
  19. Don’t like using the word “haunting.” To haunt the Twins they would need to have been traded to a team we play a lot, say the Sox or Guardians, and continually get big hits leading to losses. At least that’s how I look at it. Don’t get me wrong, we gave up a ton and will get little in return. But the trade made sense the day it was made. The good news is that several above have pointed out that both hitters would be blocked with the Twins. Suppose you could counter that by saying they would get more if traded today. Perhaps much more?
  20. Got a question for you Steve. Has the entire Saints lineup (last night) played major league ball except Bechtold and the catcher? Will second those comments above questioning Wallner’s D. Yes, he has a cannon for an arm, but his overall defense is brutal. At least from the few games I have seen on tv. Would think first base would make sense, but AK is solid there and shouldn’t a first baseman have some quickness?
  21. I wish they would do something about the Rule 5 for International kids signed when they are 16-17. But I also wish some Twin would come up with a big late inning hit. Oh well.
  22. I often cringe when thinking about some of these recent trades. So it’s great reading about Hidalgo’s nice outing. My second star of the day would go to Lewis. Hopefully, he is ready. Will he join the Twins tomorrow? My first star would go to Miller. Not only did he get two hits, but they were a double and triple. With his D, really want this kid’s bat develop to at least average.
  23. Castro should have surpassed Gordon. Expect he is here all year. And that is good.
  24. Great seeing Raya pitching so well. Curious to see an answer to Doc’s question. Can not tell you how good it is to see a game like this from ERod. Hopefully, there are many more to come…..SOON!
