  1. Thanks Steve, these updates and box scores are appreciated. Cannot be happier for AK who is doing everything we could have hoped or prayed for. Will agree with those above, that I have my fingers crossed that his wrist issues are behind him and he can now be the player everyone has envisioned since he was one of the two or three best hitters in all of MiLB several years ago. Continue seeing that Reggie Grace is having a nice start to this year as a late inning reliever. This is the first year he is 100% out of the bullpen, right? He will need to be added to the 40-man at year end or eligible for the Rule 5 draft, right? Twins, and all teams, will always be in need of dominant arms for their pen. Could Grace be one of them?
  2. Interesting. Was wondering late in last night's game if they had any relievers at St. Paul who could come up and replace Moran. Although not the move I anticipated, will see how Stewart can do. Question, is he a one inning hard thrower? Or has he been used for 2 or 2+ innings at St. Paul?
  3. Could not agree more, TopGunn. AK up with Castro going to St. Paul (I believe he has an option available). Still have Gordon and Solano to play infield spots until Farmer returns. Alternate AK with Larnach and Keps in the corner outfield spots. Also can give Gallo a rest once a week. Plenty of playing time. Only negative is they all bat left handed. AK should be able to play all but one or two games a week. That's as much as he has been playing at St. Paul. Have believed for several years he can be the Twins best hitter. Time to see if that could be true?
  4. Seems every year there are a couple of the teams that are flat out good. Teams you know are gonna be in the playoffs. Although St. Paul has a lot of talent and is off to a good start, the rest of the teams appear to be so-so. Sure would help if they got a couple of those better prospects back on the field. Guys like Prielipp, ERod, Martin, Canterino and Lewis.
  5. Maeda was one of the better starting pitchers in baseball prior to his surgery. Can he be that again? We won't know unless he is given the opportunity to start. Will he need an extra day of rest or miss a start once in awhile? Yes, but his most recent injury had nothing to do with his arm. So I would like to see him given time to make a reasonable number of starts to see if he could be that guy again. And if he tires, then a move to the pen will be the obvious choice for both the Twins and Kenta. Meanwhile, its awfully nice having Ober, and Varland, sitting over in St. Paul when needed.
  6. Interesting dilemma, Nick. And one that is arriving a bit sooner than expected. I have more faith in Larnach than bighat and probably others. With that said, I do believe he could use more time at AAA. And that will likely be the move when AK gets activated next Monday. Like Larnach, AK can play both corner outfield spots as well as first base. Will be interesting to see whether he plays mostly at first with Gallo in left, or Gallo will stay at first with AK in left? They really don't have a good backup at both short and third until Farmer returns. That's why I expect Castro will hang around until his return, then be optioned to the Saints. Does Gordon eventually move on, yes. But I see that being delayed until summer when Lewis returns. Will give Nick time to improve his hitting so the Twins will get something in return.
  7. Took a look at AK's game logs. Seems his first rehab day was April 11. Does that mean he has to be activated by May 1 at the latest? So we should see him back within the week. Will be curious who goes down when he joins the team. Great seeing the start Miller is having. I know he wore down last year, hopefully, he can maintain strong at the plate all year. Question, why isn't ERod playing? Did I miss him getting another injury?
  8. Other than St. Paul, organization is playing pretty much .500 baseball. Taking a look at the Wichita position players, gotta wonder if any of them, other than Lee, will ever play for the Twins. Assume that Cossetti can't continue hitting like this week, can he? Will be fun to see if this was one of those weeks or if he is becoming a legit big time prospect? Great seeing Raya pitching in a game. Kid has so much potential and so little actual game experience. Speaking of young pitchers, does anyone have any information about Prielipp's injury?
  9. Buxton is the Twins best player to steal a base. But with the injury concerns, it ain't gonna happen. Expect he will end the year with a handful of steals, say +/- five. And if he ends the season playing daily, that ain't bad. Who else has the temperament and speed to steal a lot of bases? As you mentioned, Taylor? Maybe. Keps or Gordon? Less likely. Stolen bases won't become part of the Twins DNA until a few of those young prospects finally arrive and stay. Guys like Julien, Lewis, Martin, or Lee should steal some bases. But with the Twins management mentality, will they? Wouldn't the Piranhas been fun to watch with these rules?
  10. Didn't know much about Headrick before last night. After two remarkable innings, thought he got a bit excited in the 9th. In any case, I like him better as our long relief guy than Sands. If his control the first two innings is for real, gotta think he could be a replacement for Moran. Trust we will see him a lot over the coming months and he just might be one answer to improving the back end of the pen.
  11. Interesting conversation. There are four players who will be added over the coming few weeks, Gallo, Polo, AK and Farmer. There are three obvious assignments to St. Paul, Julien, Garlick and Castro (does Garlick have waivers? or will he need to be DFA'd). The fourth player I see losing his spot is Gordon. Could last year be a flash in the pan? The problem is he doesn't have options. So I see some roster engineering to get them to the All-Star break. Then see Gordon being moved as part of a trade. The other reason Gordon has less value is the fact that they have four fantastic prospects on the horizon, Lewis, Lee, Julien and Martin. And the combination of the four can play all the positions Gordon does.
  12. Interesting conversation about Maeda to the pen. I like that idea. Should they make this move, perhaps they could make it sit better with Kenta if they would make a minor adjustment to his contract about some of the incentives. As for Winder, he may just settle more into a Jax role than long inning guy. He has the stuff to be a great one or two inning option around the 6th or 7th innings. That is should he be healthy and stay healthy. I continue to believe that AK is their best defensive first baseman. Continue to hope that this young man can finally put his health concerns behind him and be the player he can be.
  13. Great night for Ober, AK, Miller and Enlow. And also Polo, just being on the field is a plus. It is early and last year Miller's bat struggled as the season wore on. If he can continue hitting anything like the start to this season, his prospect status will skyrocket. He is what, three years away from the Twins? Could fit nicely when they will begin considering Correa moving to third. Gotta love a young shortstop who has zero doubts about his remaining at short. Have my fingers crossed that Winder will have a couple very good outings so he can join the Twins in a couple weeks and strengthen the back end of that pen.
  14. Another great post, Nick, you nailed it. Interesting discussion. Over the coming weeks we should see Gallo, Polo, Farmer and AK return. Where will those roster spots come from? Julien, Garlick, Castro and hmmmmm? That last one is gonna be interesting. There may be other injuries opening a spot and they may play some short-term roster engineering. But when it comes time to actually cut bait, I see Gordon as being the odd man out. Two reasons. First, is his bat as good as it appeared last summer? His start to this year would question that. And second, there are three or even four middle infield prospects on the horizon who all could become stars. That means Gordon is less valuable long-term to the organization. I know he doesn't have options and I doubt they would DFA him. But as we approach summer, wouldn't be surprised a bit if Gordon is traded or part of a trade. Now what they do when Lewis is ready is a bigger concern. But we have at least two months to speculate about that.
  15. No one is talking about the one change to the Twins front office this past winter. This change, Joe Pohlad taking over for his uncle Jim, may be the reason we are seeing front office decisions that are much different than what they are known for. Joe Pohlad is a baseball man. Has worked in baseball every day since walking off the campus at Boston College. His experience will have him looking at situations much different than Jim. It is this different view, the view from a baseball man, that may be why we are seeing a different front office in 2023.
  16. Agree with Gray, DJL44. Not so certain about Mahle. He is going to have to pitch a lot better than his last start. In any case, they now will have Lopez, Paddack, Ryan, Ober and Varland for multiple years. That's five. Agree that they will try to keep at least one of the three veterans for next year.
  17. About the only good news yesterday was Ross and the fact Gallo, Polo, AK and Winder were on the field. Gonna have to learn more about who this Ross kid is.
  18. Doc, I have been thinking that Varland may not go down for a few weeks. With the way the starters have been going 6-7 innings, they can get by with a 7 man pen. Have Maeda make his next scheduled start in 5 days, then have Varland pitch the next day in place of Mahle. Then have Varland pitch for Maeda 5 days later and returned to St Paul the following day. That would see Mahle missing one start and Maeda two.
  19. Going into spring training many of us thought we knew who the 13 position players coming north would be. Of that group, five are on the IL (Polo, AK, Gallo, Keps, Farmer) and two, Buxton and Correa, have either missed multiple games or are not playing in the field. Thats 7 of 13, which to my California math is over half. And it won't be April 15th until tomorrow. And add to that another, Maeda, who is missing his third start tonight! Crazy that this team is in first place with a 9-4 record. But man, we need some of these guys back.
  20. Saw that Miller was back at short last night. Great seeing him getting hits in most of his games. So happy to see Varland get the call to be in New York tonight. Was hoping that Winder is far enough back to be the replacement for Sands, but unlikely. Great seeing AK go yard. Will he and Polo be promoted to St. Paul come Monday?
  21. You are going to have to share being his biggest fan/supporter with this Wisconsinite, twinstalker. But what a night, 2-2 with 3 walks. Did see he was at second base last night. Was that his first game not at short? Could his arrival at Target Field coincide with the time Correa is ready to move off shortstop, maybe three years from now? Great start by Ober. Got to believe his first couple hiccups were related to weather and his disappointment with not being with the Twins.
  22. Last night may be the best evening in a long time. Polanco, Kirilloff and Winder all appeared in a baseball game. OK, it was at Low-A, but it is an early step to all three being back with the Twins by mid-May at the latest. Getting a healthy Winder back in the Twins pen will strengthen the back end of that bullpen, strengthen it a lot. On the flip side, I don't know where roster spots are going to come from when Polanco, Kirilloff, Gallo and Kepler all return.
  23. Isn't it great that the minor league teams are back playing. I saw that players got a significant raise. Do you know if the DSL also got a raise? And if so, what was it? Reading your Top 20 recap, the highlight for me was Miller's bat and that he is their regular shortstop. The low spot is that Canterino is on the IL. Do we know if he will be back before the end of the season? Still believe this kid can and will be special. With all his lost time, it may be in the bullpen. But the Twins bullpen will always need another Duran type arm. With all the new data that us old timers don't understand, I got a good smile out of your mentioning that old, old stat......errors for the middle infielders.
  24. With Rocco making the decision, I expect he will be at DH about 4 out of 5 games until Labor Day. He will then play about half the September games in center getting ready for the post season. He will continue to rest 1 of 5 games until September. That will give him 110 games at DH with about a dozen September games in center and another 8 or so DH games in September. So his year-end total, assuming he doesn't go on the IL, would be 118 games at DH and 12 in center for a grand total of 130 games played. Would we be happy with that? Would Buxton be happy? I expect Rocco would.
  25. Julien 1-2 with two walks. And a couple hits from Bechtold. He seems to not only be playing well, but getting more attention from those who matter.
