Evaluating the Prospects in the Arraez/López Trade
roger replied to Jamie Cameron's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Nothing I can like about this trade considering Arraez should have been untouchable, at least in my opinion. Don't much care about the prospects and Lopez isn't that ACE or near ACE the Twins should have been looking for if dealing their batting champ. Heck, their pitching staff was both capable and deep. Now there is one more guy keeping Varland and SWR from getting innings this year. Forget the throw ins and put together a deal for Alcantara. That I could have lived with. Expect Alcantara was untouchable. Why wasn't Luis? The only way this deal can recover in my mind is if the 17 year old kid is the second coming of Willie Mays.- 27 replies

Twins Trade Luis Arraez for Marlins' Pitcher Pablo López
roger replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Today is the saddest day I can recall as a Twins fan. Right up there with that spring training day I went to Hammond Field and heard that Kirby Puckett had been scratched from that day's lineup. Sad. Sad. Sad. Yes, I will still be a Twins fan. But the excitement of following this team just went down the crapper. When will people realize that someone who just flat out gets on base has as much value as anyone in the game. Don't know much about Lopez, although I am not thrilled that he has only two years before free agency. Know nothing about the kid coming along, but don't we already have too bloody many shortstops? Hopefully, the PTBNL is a young version of Willie Mays. Did I already say I have a tear in my eyes as I write this comment? -

The Outfield Help is Already Here?
roger replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
You are missing my point, Dman. I want to see the Twins have a balance lineup. They have that. Where they play isn't relevant. -
Fantastic article, Nick. And Doc, that may have been the best comment I have seen in a long, long time. Although I have never lived in Lincoln, remain a fan since doing some business there 40 some years ago. Love that town and really want to see the Huskers back to what they were, just not against my Badgers. As much crap as ownership and this FO receive from fans here and elsewhere, could it be that the top guys really are good guys? Being recognized for that doesn't happen over night, but recognition will eventually bring positive results which may be starting to come.

The Outfield Help is Already Here?
roger replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I don't understand all the concern with getting a RH outfielder. So what if the four top corner outfield candidates are left handed? Our shortstop and third baseman are both right handed. Is everyone concerned that the Twins find a left handed hitting shortstop or third baseman to play against right handed pitchers and have Correa or Miranda sit? No. The current lineup as it stands is 100% balanced. Four swing from the right side (C-SS-3B-CF), four from the left side (1B-LF-RF & likely the DH who will be one of the corner outfielders or Arraez), and one switch (2B). Perfect balance. Who cares where they are when they are out on the field? -
Twins Ink Contracts with Three Top International Prospects
roger replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
There were five (5) that they signed: Em Rodriguez, Urbina, Mercedes, Jose Rodriguez, and De Andrade. The Top 30 I am using is the one currently on the Twins website. Your are correct that there are several others that were acquired via trade. But there actually are 5 who originally signed with the Twins.- 19 replies

Twins Ink Contracts with Three Top International Prospects
roger replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Interesting that three total about $5.6M of their $6.3+M pool. Expect there are a few of those other seven that got a hundred grand, but most likely got a bit less. Also expect there are several others at $25-$50K or less than $25K, which doesn't count towards their total. Am ecstatic that one of their top guys was a catcher, something we need badly. If he was ranked #31, was he the top ranked catcher this year? If not, maybe #2?- 19 replies

I continue to believe that the most serious injury concern the Twins have is not either of these two, rather, Alex Kirilloff. Yes, Buxton playing 130 games likely puts the Twins in the playoffs. But if AK can play 130+ games I am confident he will be one of the better hitters in baseball. Fortunately, early reports are that he is swinging the bat pain free. An offense with Arraez, Buxton, Correa, Polo and AK will put the Twins into the playoffs. Not worried about the pitching because I believe they are at least 8 deep with starters who are or will be competent big league starters.

How Does the Twins Outfield Get Sorted?
roger replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
There was a short mention of AK in yesterday’s STrib. Or was it this morning? Although he is limited in the quantity of swings, he said it felt so good taking a full swing with no pain.- 48 replies

3 Twins Prospects that Need Healthy 2023 Seasons
roger replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
When speaking of coming back from injury, I would like to include Enlow. I am ecstatic that he cleared waivers and is still a Twin. He just might return to the prospect we thought in his first full season following TJ. Will disagree on ERod. Do not want him spending most his season with the Kernels. Rather want to see him ripping the cover off the ball and ending his year with the Twins. If teams like Atlanta and others can have 20 year old Latin players making the big club, why can’t the Twins?- 10 replies

Love this deal. Recall the Twins playing San Diego several years ago when I believe this kid was pitching. Recall thinking, why the heck can't the Twins have a young stud like this. Yes, its possible his best days are behind him. But with a new elbow, its also possible he can again be that stud he was as a rookie. I understand there are some incentives in the deal, but should he get even close to what he was this is huge. Now get at least one of Mahle, Maeda, or Gray extended along with our batting champ and all will be good in Twins Country.

Yes he does, Cody. And I expect he thanks you.

Ranking the Top 5 Most Likely Trade Chips for the Twins
roger replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Here we go, another article talking about trading half the team. Signing Correa looks to me like the final move for position players. Could see them signing a free agent reliever, but I really expect the Twins are about set for spring training. Do one of the moves you talk about above happen, maybe. But I would expect it to be in July after they have a lot more information about how our guys are playing this year and what the team needs for the final push for the playoffs.- 59 replies

I believe your mention of Tony Wolters is the first comment TD has about his recent signing. Although not a major impact, I view getting a guy with five or six years of big league experience (Rockies) on a Minor League deal was a must. Now that is done and it is encouraging that he is only 30 years old. It is going to be interesting to see who is removed from the 40-man when Correa signs his contract, hopefully, today or tomorrow. When I look at it there isn't an obvious choice. Garlick is most likely if it isn't a pitcher. Also can't see Larnach starting the season at St. Paul. The kid hit too well last year prior to his injury. If he does start at Target Field, going to have to be some move, probably a trade. Also see that you failed to mention Josh Winder in either the rotation or bullpen. Kid was with the Twins all of last year, when healthy. Could be ideal arm for that long relief role. Doubt he will go back to St. Paul, although anything is possible.

WOW! I was one of the few who was hopeful Correa didn't return. My concern is whether or not the Twins will have the dollars to retain/extend Lewis, Lee, Miranda, AK, Larnach and some of the young pitchers. You see, I believe most of those guys are going to become very good/and/or/great ballplayers. Assuming this actually gets signed, gonna have to think about how this affects the Twins in both the short and long term. Money isn't a problem for the next few years. But where will guys like Lewis, Lee and perhaps a few others (Julien, Martin) play with Carlos at short? Expect that could become a good problem. Also expect it increases the liklihood that one of those young studs is traded. Probably will wait until summer to give someone like Martin a chance to improve his value. Hopefully, Lee and Lewis ain't going anywhere, hopefully.

4 Twins Prospect Debuts to Be Excited About in 2023
roger replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Will agree with those thinking a trade is on the horizon with Lee, Julien and Martin all vying for the same spots on the diamond. But that trade doesn’t need to be now. Maybe in July. Maybe next winter. will be interesting to see who the one who gets traded is. Doesn’t make sense to speculate as that decision is beyond us. Insofar as Martin is concerned, seems he hit better late last year when he abandoned the changes from when the Twins were tinkering with his swing. Good chance his bat and status returns in 2023.- 32 replies

I continue to be concerned with what the dollars will mean when we need to extend Miranda, Royce, Lee, AK, Larnach and Rodriguez beginning in four or five years. For that reason I am fine waiting for Lewis to be our shortstop sometime this summer. On the other hand, it isn’t smart of Mr. Cohen to disrespect a young Latin man. Certainly not if he really wants him playing for the Mets.
-
Still like this kid and remain hopeful he has a big 2023. One question. It is known that the Twins 'tinkered' with his swing when he came over from Toronto. Assume that was related to their wanting more power. We also know that he had a bad 2022 at the plate, which may have been related to a hand injury. He then had a great month in the AFL. Does anyone know if he returned to his pre-tinkering swing in the AFL when away from Twins coaching? Or did he not do anything different, other than being healthier? I sure don't know, but an interesting question.

Love these look backs. Although not proven, three of the top five continue to have the potential to be absolute studs with a fourth, Duran, already achieving that status. Also interesting how one of the two best, Miranda, was way down this list. Considering that over half (16) have already played for the Twins, in hind sight this group must be considered an excellent group.

Twins Claim RHP Oliver Ortega Off Waivers from Angels
roger replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Certainly not the reliever I had hoped they would get. And still hope for. Let's cross our fingers that Enlow will clear waivers and remain with the organization. Still believe he could make it. Gotta believe it is good that when looking at the 40-man someone with as much potential as Enlow has to be the one cut loose when adding someone. -

Don't understand what you are saying. What does Lewis' injury have to do with whether or not Rodriguez will be ready to play come spring training? Also, weren't they different injuries? Wasn't ERod a meniscus tear, which is a lot different than an ACL?- 43 replies

Three Free Agent Outfield Upgrades for the Twins
roger replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Don't need to. My point is that I want the Twins to have a balanced lineup, four right and four left with one switch does that. Should be equally good versus both sided pitchers. If it isn't, then they may need to make some changes of players.- 32 replies

Three Free Agent Outfield Upgrades for the Twins
roger replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I don’t understand all the concern with having left handed hitting corner outfielders. As I look at their starting lineup I see four starters who bat left, Arraez, Gallo, Larnach or AK in left, Keps in right and one of the three guys battling for left as DH. There are also four who are right handed, the catchers, Farmer at short, Miranda and Buxton. Polo is switch, so the lineup is perfectly balanced. So I don’t understand why everyone has a burr under their saddles about the corner guys swinging from the left side.- 32 replies
