    I sincerely hope that the front office isn't as far off reality as you are with this suggestion, Nick. Seriously, add me to the list of those who want the Twins to pivot off shortstop and fill a few other holes in the roster. Am 100% ok with Farmer being their shortstop until Lewis is healthy and begins his HOF career. Moves that I hope the Twins make are: 1) Find that top notch late inning reliever to make the bullpen stronger; 2) Sign that veteran third catcher, preferably to a minor league contract and be available when Jeffers is injured; and 3) Find a solid right handed bat to fill in someplace, could even be the primary DH. What I don't want them to do is panic and trade Arraez, any of the top prospects, or even Keps. I also could care in the least if their opening day payroll is significantly lower than last year. If they feel they gotta spend it, then I would be ok with overpaying Rodon...but not for too many years.

    Love this signing. Have believed since the season’s end that catcher 1a was their #1 need this winter. Hopefully, they will split game,s with Vazquez getting about 110 and Jeffers 52. Seeing they don’t have that exciting prospect a half season away from being big league ready, they need to find a veteran who will sign a minor league contract? You know, a vet who will work with the young pitchers at St Paul and be available to be called up when either catcher is injured. Is Sandy Leon still available?

    None of the above for me, Nick. Expecting his contract to be 300M, plus, and 10 or more years I didn’t want the Twins to have anything to do with him. Would have been disappointed had they taken the Twins 285M offer. Why, paying out 28M in those last 3-5 years would destroy the Twins just when they were looking for dollars to extend Lewis, Lee, Rodriguez, SWR, Varland, Priellip, et.al. Heck there is a real chance Lewis will be better than Correa three or four years from now.

    Question Ted. You stated that they made offers to Rodon, Correa and Christian Vazquez, but have yet to get a Yes. Didn't Vazquez sign with the Twins for $30M over three years? Was that reporting false?

    That million or two million dollar mansion he would have bought in Minny is going to cost him ten million in the Bay area. And when he goes into the Dior store, prices are going to be a lot higher than the store here, is there one? Don't have twitter, but count me amongst those who say we dodged the bullet. Minnesota sports fans know all too well how 13-year contracts work out, just ask the Wild.

    I sincerely hope you are wrong and the Twins don't need 10 starters this year, not counting guys they bring up for a double header. Let's pray for good health so that maybe seven or eight at the most pitch those 50+ innings. If that's the case, the Twins are all set with Gray, Mahle, Maeda, Ryan, Ober, Winder, Varland and SWR, with Paddack coming back hopefully by late summer. Yes, the pipeline isn't churning out lots of options, although Ober, Winder and Varland were all drafted by the Twins. Perhaps the best thing the front office duo has accomplished is stocking this pitching staff via several smart trades, trades that have brought in solid starters with more than a year of control. Now they just have to decide which of the four veterans should be extended and get it done by mid-summer. Heck, I'd like to see all four kept around and whether or not they sign Correa, they should have the dollars to do it. And let's remember Tom Kelly's most basic belief, "you are only as good as your next day's starter."

    Let me see, Cody, three reasons why Dansby Swanson is not Carlos Correa. Hmmh. One, they have different mothers. Two, they have different fathers. Three, see one and two. Not throwing stones at your article, Cody. Just got a weird vibe when I read the headline. Considering I do not want them to spend the dollars/years for Correa, I sincerely hope they don't even talk to Swanson if they don't sign Carlos. I like Farmer as their shortstop until Royce Lewis is healthy to begin his Hall of Fame career. And before you all jump all over my view, I'll bet if you ask Royce Lewis he believes he will have a Hall of Fame career.

    Just filled their #1 need this off-season. I don’t know a lot about this young man, but what y’all are saying above sounds like he should be a good #1a with Jeffers demoted #1b. What is he, the fifth or sixth Puerto Rican on the team. Who knows, maybe that puts Correa over the last hurdle? The two biggest needs I see remaining are that stud late inning bullpen arm and a catcher like Leon on a minor league contract to work with the young guns at St Paul and be ready as an injury replacement.

    Is it possible the Twins are happy with their starting rotation and the young arms about ready to step in should there be a couple injuries? Is the only real interest in adding a starting pitcher coming from many of us that have zero involvement in running the team?

    My concern is who plays right field for the Twins. Saw lots of ugly defense out there late last year. I mean ugly. Plus, Keps just might turn the corner once the entire team isn't playing on the right side of the infield. Yes, he should have learned how to beat the shift, but he didn't. Would hate to trade him now and see him hit .260-.275 with 20+ home runs along with his best in the league D. Would hate it. So for me, they had better get a lot if they move him, preferably a very good young catcher, which is their greatest need.

    Much stated above is valid. Yet, I believe their starting staff is fine and adding someone like Rodon for big money and a long contract is a mistake, BIG mistake.

    I expect not having the Twins on most tv’s has been a bigger factor in interest in the Twins than most realize. Although there is a deal for hockey and bball for the streaming service, still nothing for the Twins, right?

    Yes, it makes a ton of sense to add Lewis to this list as well as Varland and SWR. Lewis just might be the best. Heard on one of the tv broadcasts last summer that Kirk Gibson had a similar surgery as AK. And we sure know how his career ended up being. So let's cross our fingers. Also have total faith that Captain Jax will work his tail off this winter and have a better 2023 than 2022, which was very good.

    To answer your question, Has Luis Arraez peaked? No. Should Arraez be traded, hell no! Like someone mentioned above, I watched most of last year's games. And the highlight of most was waiting for his next at bat. Loved all those 7-8-10 pitch at bats regardless of the result. Trade him and I don't know what I will be looking forward to in next year's games. Probably nothing. And that leads to taking a nap or reading a book, or even joining the wife doing a puzzle. But it doesn't lead to watching more Twins games. Heck, I have even gotten to the point where I could understand their trading Polo or Keps. But trading Arraez, no, no, no.

    The only player from that 2020 draft that gets my blood pressure pumping is Raya. Agree, he could be a good one, real good. And we won't need to add him for another two years. Heck, I hope he is pitching with the Twins by that time. My biggest question regarding the Rule 5 draft is any information on the 4 guys the Twins took in the AAA version of this year's draft. Was hoping someone at TD would have given us some insight into who they are and what hope they have to contributing, if ever?

    Count me among those who will be encouraged when Boras announces Correa has signed and it is not with the Twins. I am comfortable with Farmer manning short until Lewis returns, hopefully, sometime in June. Have always believed in Lewis becoming a star and his brief stint last year sure as heck confirmed that belief. Thus, have zero interest in signing Correa to a 10-year deal which will destroy this team in the late 2020's, just when all these young kids need to be signed to extensions to keep the gang together. The needs I see are a better than Jeffers catcher and one good late inning reliever. I believe with a bit of luck health wise the Twins can compete to win the Central and be competitive in the playoffs. As for the starting staff, I will repeat my belief that I don't care about an ACE. Give me three very good #2-#3 starters to make the next three starts and the Twins will win a lot of games. All indications are they have three, if not four, good #2/#3 arms.

    My question is whether or not there is a big time catcher who could be available at #5. You know, somebody named Johnny Bench? Will you be doing a similar review of potential pitchers? My hope would be that if Bench isn't available, they would find that proverbial ACE with this pick. You know, Chris Sale, Jr.

    Don't have a clue whether they will acquire them via trade, free agency, the Rule 5 or however. But the Twins need 3 catchers. One is a solid vet who preferably bats left handed and will act as 1a with Jeffers being 1b. The second is a vet, think Leon, who can be signed to a minor league contract. He will begin the year in St. Paul and his experience should help those young pitchers who also should begin their year with the Saints. He will be available to be added to the 40-man if/when catcher 1a or 1b goes on the IL. The third is a solid big league prospect who is at least at AA. It would be shocking if this young man were available in the Rule 5. That means his acquisition will need to be a trade, although maybe their luck from last night will hold and they find this young man in the Rule 5.

    Steve asked the most important question that always is missing in these conversations. To add Cruz they would need to either release someone on the roster or not add one of the four they added. Suspect they would definitely lose that person, say Julien, and it could really come back to bite them.

    Perhaps the most shocking statement you made, Seth, is that the Front Office has a strong relationship with the Boras agency. Wasn’t that long ago that our front office cringed when hearing his name. I am not a huge fan of Jeffers and am hopeful they sign a starter so Jeffers only plays 70 games a year. Hopefully they will leave San Diego with a catcher, even if it is a vet like Leon on a minor league contract as injury insurance and to work with the young pitchers at St Paul. Really want to also see them add a good catching prospect who is at least at AA. Doubt he could be a Rule 5 guy, so may need to be a trade. To answer some of your questions, if they don’t sign Correa I don’t see their payroll anywhere near $150M. I pray they don’t trade either Polo or Keps. I do hope they sign a stud short reliever to shut down games from the 7th inning on. Expect we will lose someone in Thursday’s draft. Fortunately, the guys that would hurt were either added or traded in July.

    Interesting young man, Cody. Not a clue how this will pan out. So many unknowns. Will Winder be healthy and pitching like we saw in much of 2021? Will Alcala be healthy? If so, will he be ready for prime time or need several months at St Paul? Will Moran fine tune his control and be the real deal? Or will he need another stint across the river? Lets hope all these questions are positive and the Twins have a shut down pen. I, however, would love to see them sign another stud late inning arm.

    What a fantastic return for Cruz. Almost think the Twins should sign an older big bat with a one year contract every winter. Then flip him in July. What a way to restock the system. I expect Ryan to take another step forward this spring. Expect a normal winter will be big for him. Another advantage is he just might be slotted as the Twins #4 starter…Gray, Mahle, Maeda. Ryan and Ober. Could win lots of games against other teams #4 starters. That’s assuming Rocco let’s him pitch 5 innings. But didn’t he let Ryan go deep into games a couple times at the end of the season?
