Have to say, I LOVED the comment about the hamstring problem being behind him would be a HUGE problem.

Craig Breslow is your trivia answer right?

Sign me up for Lackey or Flora as of today. Both would be awesome additions to our organization.

Being so bad as to possess the 4th largest bonus pool isn't something to "boast," per the headline.
They don't have a comp round A pick this year, which would have probably given them the 3rd largest bonus pool. I was expecting more like the 5th largest pool, so 4th is better than expected.
-
I wrote him off a while ago, but I'd very much argue that Outman was a winner at camp too. We'll see if the production translates to the regular season.
Another loser could be the roster spot that is being held up by Larnach. Wagaman or another right handed hitter would be so much better for this roster currently, let alone getting into Roden or other prospects at AAA.
-
Keaschall leading off with Buxton at 2 would start games off really strong. After that, I guess we'll see, If Lewis comes around (that feels like a big IF) and Wallner can get back to his 2024 levels, then adding Bell and Jeffers in there somewhere at least makes a credible top 5 or 6 or so.

I'll take the under.
Exactly, That's why I figured Chafin was going to make it with Funderburk having options. But I guess we'll see what happens.
I still expect a Larnach trade and a reliever addition, but more is needed

It was going to be tough to keep 4 LH RP on the roster.
Yes, but the bullpen will probably have at least one change by the 3rd series of the year anyway

Urshela and Chafin also gone.
Not at all surprised on Urshela, but I'm pretty surprised on Chafin.

A couple of changes today. Hendriks released as he wasn't set to make the team, and Zebby optioned to AAA. Rotation is set with Ryan (starting opening day) with Taj, Abel, SWR and Ober. Hopefully Ober can get back to what he was in 2024.
-
Ober scares me the most right now, but Matthews will get his shot at some point. Hopefully the stuff picks up in due time

I still think it's assuming an awful lot that Ober will be fully stretched out and ready to start by opening day. I am going into this expecting both Abel and Matthews to be on the roster because of that. I guess we'll see.
If I HAD to choose one as of today it'd be Abel. But I bet both start plenty of games this year.

I don't see much reason to worry about Ryan at this point... Ober is another story.
2nd’d on this. Ryan (barring health) will be fine. Ober has to show he is back to form before I feel confident on him at all

Rodriguez AND Gonzalez?
So I guess they're not doing that bit where they pretend young players actually have a chance to earn a roster spot.
I mean, I think they could (or maybe should) trade Wallner and Larnach before opening day, and I’m still not ready to say that Gonzalez is ready even if that were to happen.
-
I’m not saying he should be around for the long haul. But defensively I certainly like him out there more than either Larnach or Wallner. He does have some speed and some pop, both things that they could use. We will see how the rest of spring goes, but no one currently in the outfield mix other than Buxton has sniffed anywhere close to the success he showed in 2023.

I know SWR is starting to come into his own too, but right now I'd have him behind all 3 of Zebby, Abel and Bradley in some order. It's tough with him being out of options though.
Hopefully Ober can show his velocity is back above 90 and frankly pushing 92. Otherwise the 3 (Zebby/Bradley/Abel) I'd very much put ahead of how Ober looked like in 2025.
They'll all get innings this year, no doubt. But these guys have some really fun stuff.

This is the 2nd time I have seen Klein this spring and his off-speed stuff looks pretty darn good to me and he has plenty of velocity. Am I being a homer / overly optimistic. He needs to spot the fastball better but does this guy have a decent chance to be part of the rebuilding the BP?
I'll 2nd this. Even if not on opening day he looks like he could help at some point.

I think adding Littell wouldn’t hurt. If everything works out perfect and the young guys are throwing well, he has also done long relief before.
Beyond that, the other names you listed I’m not certain are upgrades. Giolito is I THINK, but the others I don’t know.
I am excited to see the young pitching overall in the rotation.
Also, just generally, if they truly were thinking of Festa as a starting option I think that was naive at best
-
If they trade Larnach and have Martin in the outfield to start the year, then carrying 3 catchers won’t be a problem to start. And frankly, with how much Caratini will play at other positions, I don’t see it as an issue at least right away
