  1. Good article but I will offer a counter argument. Signing Cruz will affect the playing time for some players including Rooker, Arreaz, Cave and maybe a few ABs from Killeroff. Cruz will also keep us from cycling players like Sano and Donaldson through DH. But if he hits the same as last year.... Being a 150% OPS is another level of hitting and greatly improves our lineup. Also our improved defense greatly helps Dobnak the most so I think he deserves a full opportunity. We do need another reliever if we can get at least Clippard back at 4 or 5 million we can afford Cruz, Clippard, and a SP on a minor league contract for depth.
  2. I would hate to trade a .300+ hitting batting title contender bench player with a .400 OBP making near league minimum. That is a high value component for our team. As long as he gets 500 plate appearances.
  3. Next season the SS free agent market will be mega deep with lots of options. So the 1 year contract will not be a drag. Also if we resign Cruz it will likely be for 1 year only so we will have resources next offseason to sign a better power hitting SS.
  4. This trade is like Detroit's Doyle Alexander trade. He went 9-0 in 87 and they made the playoffs and he went 14 - 11 the next year then cratered .... but they gave up John Smoltz for him.
  5. I will like this move more if we sign Oaklands former SS and Cruz. Then we are justified going lower cost on pitching. But Happy isn't a bad pitcher. Watch us resign him next offseason.
  6. Im in on Schilling, Clements and Bonds. Yes they are not perfect people but they did great things on the field. Would represent 2020/ 2021 very well. I am not as sold on Andrew Jones. Vizquel is a tossup. I would like to see top defensive people make the Hall Of Fame. He came close to 3000 hits and score 1406 runs I think. Not hall of fame but close but his defense was hall of fame. Rolen I am also on the fence. I do like him.but the injuries hurt him. Wagner should be in. He was so Dominant compared to his peers in his playing days.
  7. I was just thinking this morning that a real good under the radar move would be to sign Garrett Richards to a 1 year deal with incentives. He may be pushing for a 2 year deal and probably decent guaranteed money but a 1 year with incentives makes sense if they can get him for that.
  8. I can see the Twins getting Musgrove from Pittsburg for prospects. LaMonte Wade and Gordon with a lower level prospect seem like a good start to a deal. I can also see Gordon as the 2nd backup MI next season. He seems to have a close to league average bat. .260-.280 Ave with some doubles and a handful of stolen bases.
  9. Having 2 Germans on our team will help our Octoberfest standings. Will it be enough to help our Novemberfest as well?
  10. I can see the Twins signing both Cruz and a good SS if they can acquire an inexpensive starter like Musgrove or a starter from Cincinnati Castillo or Gray....maybe with a few million included in a Gray trade....i also think we have lots of extra pitchers for the bullpen already so we need one more good high end middle reliever to sign and with the other pitchers we already signed I think our pen is set up well for next season. I think our own already has Duffey, Rogers, Robles, Littell, Alcala, Thorpe, Smeltzer, Stashak, Colina, and Theilbar ... 1 more steady arm should do the trick.
  11. I think there are plenty of good pitching targets out there for us. We are only short 1 starter. And we have Thorpe and Smeltzer available for depth and others on the way. I think we could go many different ways here. Odorrizzi, Hill, Musgrove in trade with Pittsburgh and 2 starters from Reds. There are others. I do hope we get something done before too many options disappear.

  13. I like Galvis as a 1 year stop gap till Royce Lewis is up and ready to take over SS.
  14. I don't see Castellanos as a fit. Might as well kept Rosario. So if we have to get him to get Castillo then I just up my offer to Odorrizzi. I would trade for Sonny or Castillo and would include Larnarch, or Colina, Balazovich, Rooker. There are a large number but I am sure a package can be worked out. How much better is Gray then Odorrizzi. That difference in talent and 3 million a year for what talent?
  15. Plus we have some prospects likely to be ready this year. So I am not too worried. Minnesota is a good destination for free agents who want a legit chance to win. We need a middle IF, a starting pitcher, and some relievers. We have in house bullpen options, OFs and DH if we don't sign Cruz and to replace Rosario. We have Jeffers for back up C. So we still need a Starting Pitcher, a bullpen arm or 2, and an IF either SS or utility player. And thats it. Cruz is just a preferred option.
  16. Trading both Arreaz and Lewis for a SS that will leave after a season is a no. Trading Arreaz and one of Rooker, Larnarch, or Cave and a long range prospect like Rijo, or Colina or Jax is a more realistic package to start from.
  17. I thought he would be a darkhorse candidate to be in the rotation or bullpen by the end of the year with a chance at being a starter long term here.
  18. Players were non-tendered for a variety of reasons. If there is a good value sign we should pounce for example: Rosario was not a reasonable spend at 10 million. But if he can be signed for 4 to 6 million someone will step forward and do it. I don't know what we need that could be solved from the nontenders but I suspect we could find a value sign. We do have an extra million after Wislers nontender....
  19. Lastly, it will be a disappointment if they are not able to resign Cruz. While we have 3 good hitting prospects ready to go, they are not likely to match Cruz production. We do need a good bench player. I haven't studied our options in a while.
  20. I agree with mnfireman that payroll is not going up or they would resign May and not nontender Wisler. For 1.5 million give or take he isn't that big of a risk to resign. I do like your bullpen ideas though Soria could possibly get a 2 year deal.
  21. I wonder if Hill is a possible resign candidate? Though with our pitching prospects being almost ready I think just an Odorizzi signing would be enough for the rotation. I think on offense we need a higher on base percentage. That is our biggest problem only solo home runs....
  22. Troll Hunter was about 2 seasons short of the Hall of Fame. While he had the Gold Gloves and Silver Sluggers awards and gave lots of colorful interviews, the rest of his stats are just short of justifying getting him in. He had 2492 hits. I think being over 2700 minimum. 890 extra base hits. I think he needed to be at or near 1000. 1391 RBI. There are only a few players with more than 1525 RBIs not in. Also 5 stolen bases shy of 200. I think he was 800 to 1000 at bats away from accumulating enough counting stats to get him in. His career OPS was only 110. Above average but not great so he really needed the counting stats to help his cause.
  23. Depends on our budget for who we can keep this offseason. Top priority has to be resigning Cruz. I think a 1 year with option is a fair deal. Good bye Avila and Marwin Gonzales. Adriana could go either way. I can see us bringing him back on a lower base salary maybe with some incentives and I can see the Twins letting him walk. I do think if I would be a good idea to have a veteran on the bench. On Pitching, I see us signing Clipper if he is in the 4 million for a season and we should make an effort for May. The Twins strategy revolves around a deep pen. Depending on budget will determine if we keep Room. For the rotation we have Berrios, Maeda, Pineda, and Dobnak. We also have a few potential starters almost ready for the show. I think we could sign 1 or both of Odorizzi or Hill. It will be fun to see who they go sign. I think the budget will be a factor in who they sign or resign. I do expect the Twins to let Rosario go to save some money. Its also going to be fun to see who the Twins do target as well.
  24. Parts of this offseason are easy. 1. Resign Cruz 2. Trade Rosario 3. LF a competition for Rooker and Killeroff 4. Let Gonzales walk. Some decisions are less easy. 5. Resign Adriana to 1 year 1.25 million with up to 750k incentives based on plate appearances. He had a bad year at the plate and a make good contract with a team he had success with and is competitive makes sense. And Adriana can play 3rd. We could also sign a minor league insurance policy in addition to. Having a capable replacement at third should be a priority. 6. Make Lewis the everyday utility player. His bat wont need to do much to replace Gonzales and he is fast.... Now on to pitching.....
  25. Nelson Cruz is probably the best regular season free agent in Twins history. But to say he is better that a game 7 of the World Series 10 inning shut out. I think not.
