I am super serial......man bear pig...... but in truth these players are developed and have potential. Moran has pitched well up here and has a killer changeup. Stashak has solid numbers for a middle reliever and Alcala was coming on strong last season before being hurt this one. THese are the guys at the end of the "we developed them spectrum" but these are developed pitchers from our system.

A nice contract extension for Duran could convince him to stay in the pen. I mean who wouldn't want a 6 year multi-million extension with a few option years added.

Stashak, Alcala, Moran, and kinda Smeltzer too.

Andy MacPhail (the GM before Terry Ryan and if the 2 World Series Champions). Once said the goal of a small market team like the Twins is to develop and promote 2-3 players per year to the team.. With the prospects we have, we can continue to do this. Also it’s not like we need a big crop to develop for next year as we will be competitive at least that long. In 2024 let’s revisit the rankings. That’s when it’s likely going to have some relevance again.

He may not be happy about it but his next contract is likely his last shot at a big payday. I imagine contract with the highest number will sign him including us. I think this year is payback for all those years we complained about Gardenhire and then Molitor leaving pitchers in too long.

We got good value form both. Archer has been treated the same way Ober was last year. How many starts does he have with over 80 pitches? I bet next season he would get more starts with 90-100 pitches. That will make him a 5 inning starter which is fine. Bundy is a 5 inning starter that is average, also good. I don’t see either option picked up though Bundy could be since he is close to the value of that option. But I could see the Twins bringing both back on new contracts with raises over this year and with incentives to get close to the option contract.

Your calling him a scab is a negative. I believe he was acting in his family’s best interests and I for one am glad players crossed the line. That should have been inferred from my comment. I think that makes him more of a hero.

With Bundy, if the Twins want to keep him they could offer a 2 year 16 million or say hey we are gonna decline his option, how bout a 1 year 8-9 million to be more inline with what he should be paid. I think he will stay next season. Also Bundy has been better than his overall line. Take out his two bad starts from late April/ early May and his ERA is probably closer to 4.00 I mean 2 innings and 9 earned runs in a start is gonna skew your numbers.

Unions don’t always represent each players interest. Unions are an organization with their own interests. I can tell you how the teamsters threatened me with physical harm, when I worked for UPS in college for wanting to work and pay for school. They even negotiated a lower wage increase in exchange for control of the pension. UPS wanted the Pension to be a 50/50 thing to prevent corruption and mismanagement. Unions aren’t the heroes you think they are.

Archer was used in my trade proposal for Salvador Perez.

I will take the counter point and say we have too many pitchers for 2023. The good news is you didn’t even factor in Archer and Bundy who both deserve to have their options picked up. So let’s pick up their options and get the winter meetings started. Who do we trade and for what….. a reliever and Catcher who can hit maybe. Would the Royals trade Salvador Perez for Archer, Smeltzer, and Ober? That would certainly help their 2023 rotation. Can we talk Maeda into becoming a top notch reliever? Now let’s see how competitive we can be!

Let's take a quick look at what we have. Ryan is a potential rookie of the year candidate. We did acquire him in a trade and he didn't need to much development from us to be ready. Winder and Ober have been solid when available to pitch. both drafted and developed by team Falvine. Smeltzer seems to be a solid swingman for the rotation. We have a few in the pen we developed as well. Duran, Thielbar, Jax, Sands, Moran, Stashak, and Alcala. (to be fair Thielbar was a refind by Falvine after a 5 year Odessey for Thielbar as he wandered to minors looking for another opportunity to come back home to his Twins team). So we are developing pitchers just not healthy ones. but pretty effective ones though. another way to look at it is the above developed pitchers have thrown 431.67 innings with 177 earned runs and a 3.69 ERA. The acquired pitchers and pitchers no longer with the team have thrown 527.33 innings and given up 251 earned runs for an ERA of 4.28.
  13. Brandon
If he opts in great if not, I hope we can extend him. I like him on the team.
  14. Brandon
He seems to be hitting the potential we all saw in him years ago. I remember we had a slash line of .270 Ave 10-15 HRs 30 2Bs and 10-15 SB. Over a full season of ABs. He seems to be on that pace.
  15. Brandon
Sano and his Ks and light tower power….. ok seriously I’m going with Maeda.
  16. Brandon
With so many young established players who are all pretty healthy except Killeroff. We have time to restock our minor leagues. It would be nice if we can get a few pitchers developed. I think next offseason will be a quiet one for us especially if Correa doesn’t opt out. Maybe go get a pitcher or two. But really what else would we need to do?
  17. Brandon
Pretty amazing to see Jose Abrea get nominated for an award for both the Guardians and Whitesox also Detroit did trade former Twin Grossman to the Braves for something. And lastly, It’s possible the Twins could lose the division lead. But I think they will find it before we go to the playoffs. It’s usually in the last place you look.
  18. Brandon
Article correction…. Aaron Sanchez was signed during the season not prior. He made 7 starts somewhere…. I think Washington but can’t remember exactly…..
  19. Brandon
Sandy Leon has already justified his acquisition yesterday with his offensive performance. The two relievers are off to a nice start but they cost more so it will be a while before their trades are justified. Well maybe not Fullmer…. How could any Twins fan not be thrilled with the deadline trades?
  20. Brandon
I like that they have the Twins as the 2nd most improved team behind San Diego. and that the Whitesox were the biggest Losers of the deadline. for some reason, I could live with Cleveland winning the division title. I would be disappointed. But not like the Whitesox winning the division disappointed. That is much more aggrivating.
  21. Brandon
But what I am most interested in knowing and I think everyone else here is too. Since this thread is about Mike Sixel's thoughts on the season. How has his thoughts changed since the trade deadline. How does he revise his thoughts now the the deadline has past. We all want to know so we can continue the discussion post trade deadline.
  22. Brandon
So we have a bullpen of: Lopez Fullmer Duran Jax Duffey Thielbar Pagan Megill Moran Smith was DFA'd. I hope someone claims him. maybe Cleveland. but we still have 9 pitchers so someone else needs to go too,
  23. Brandon
I give a solid A. The only concern I have from today is why the Twins DFA'd Cotton instead of Joe Smith? He seems to be done, the way he has pitched lately. He was unscored upon in his first 12.33 innings and has given up 14 Earned Runs in his last 14 innings with 7 HRs allowed. Cotton on the other hand has pitched pretty well. He has given up 7 HRs as well but over 35 innings and he has fewer hits allowed and fewer runs with more strikeouts. Also I wonder if the Twins could have traded for the Cubs C since no one else did.... while I don' t think he would be good defensively, he would have hit better than anyone else we have for C. Outside of that, Today was flawless.
  24. Brandon
This is eerily similar to the Paddack / Pagan for Rogers trade
  25. Brandon
is there a link for this? I still don't get DFA Cotton when Smith has been so bad for a while now.
