  1. Buxton has a no trade clause so if for that reason alone he is untouchable. I see Buxton/Kirilloff as the future of the franchise so IMHO he is also untouchable. There are plenty of other options. NO.
  2. No way they are done yet. I still see Story at ss, Urshela/Miranda at 3b. They will trade for another front end SP, possibly sign another FA SP, like Pineda, or Greinke. I also see another FA catcher. The money is there to spend, and if they don't spend it they will be shooting themselves in the foot. With this team, it is my opinion that they will contend for the division. If they stand pat, they will probably be able to count fans in the stands on one hand. I just hope they don't completely deplete our top prospect list.
  3. IIRC, Berrios did not want to re-sign with the Twins. So for about $8M less per year(even if we could have signed Berrios) we have Gray, Martin, and SWR vs. Berrios and Petty. Petty was 4-5 years away "IF" he ever made MLB. Martin and SWR both are 2yrs. or probably less away and both are more likely to make major contributions to the big league club. Now, this may not have been the master plan from the beginning, but I much prefer how things turned out. How bout cutting the FO a little slack until they've had more than a weekend to do what they have to do. If it turns out bad, well then let'er rip. But there is no way they are finished.
  4. Only thing that makes any sense is they are freeing up money to sign Story, a FA SP, with Urshela and Miranda for 3b. Also we still have trade chips for SP, whether it's Arraez, Kepler, or some of our top prospects. If I am right about this, I send kudos to the FO for this very unusual and forward thinking. I'm loving it if it gets done. But, cannot afford to get outplayed by not finishing this thing off.
  5. There will be more moves. I see Story coming in as SS. I also see the Twins making a big move for a top of the rotation SP. This is the only way any of this makes sense. Gotta go now, the battery on my chrystal ball is dying. More later.
  6. Prediction: Twins sign Trevor Story, Kris Bryant, Zack Greinke, and Kenley Jansen. Trade for Montas. Win WS three straight years. Year 4, we do not win WS and fans call for heads of front office.
  7. Of the players you list, "who has a chance to open the season with the Twins?" None of the catchers, None of the infielders, All of the pitchers as SP All of the pitchers in the BP.
  8. Hey, we all loved the Garver story. But we traded from a position of semi/strength to a position of dire need. Garver has had his share of injuries and is not getting any younger so I think from a risk standpoint we come out ahead. Also, since we have IKF for two years, that should be plenty of time to see if our ss of the future is in the system. If not, there is the possibility of extending him at his 29 year old season. My opinion is that this was a well thought out option. But I guess, only the future will tell if it was a good trade or not.
  9. YESSSSS!!!! Now the Twins can go sign Story and Rodon an make a trade for Montas. Lol. But seriously folks. Thanks for getting rid of the 7 inning double headers and the free baserunner in extra innings. "PLAY BALL".
  10. I'm really having a difficult time understanding what this world is coming to. "Now is a good time to stop reading, cuz this is going to be a rant." For perspective, I have raised 4 children, helped them all through college and helped them financially begin their adult lives. We lived a moderate but comfortable life. My wife and I have been able to retire comfortably at the age of 61. And through 46 years of a working career, my lifetime earnings are less than three years of MLB minimum pay. ( yeah, I know. you don't care".) We have people out of work that can barely get by, we have people out of work because they are too lazy to get a job, And on the other hand we have grown men playing a game for more money than is imaginable to "normal folks". We also have billionaires, yes billionaires holding up a kids game because they want more?????? Really. This is really happening? I am having a hard time feeling anything but apathy for either side right now. And as much as I love the game of baseball and even MLB, I think I have had enough of their GREED. So, my suggestion to MLB and the MLBPA - It's time to get your stuff together before it's all gone. Disgusting.
  11. I love Arraezs' bat and what he brings to the lineup. But, I also believe that he may be our best trade chip as far as his value and also the redundancy he brings to the Twins. If we can find a good trade partner for a reliable starting pitcher, I'm all in on making a deal. We will probably have to throw in more with possibly a prospect or two, but I would rather it not be anyone in the top 20, certainly not our top 10.
  12. In the interest of competing this year and every year for that matter, I would do this deal. But it should just be one step in the process. I still believe it to be feasible to sign Rodon to a one or two year contract and to sign Story. If our up and coming young pitchers are ready they will get their chances due to injuries. How many starting pitchers do we use on average? I think there will be more than enough innings for the young guys. My only question in this scenario is payroll for 2022. But I think that this lineup and adding 2 good SP gives us a great chance at winning the division.
  13. I'm really excited to see Martin, Lewis, Miranda, Kirrilloff, Buxton and Polanco all in the same lineup. I'm still hoping for Larnach to turn things around also, and I believe he will. I think the Twins have a very bright future and with some very exciting pitching prospects, well, I'm just giddy. C'mon Man. Lets play ball.
  14. I really want Lewis to succeed. I would love him to be the SS of the future. I am pulling for him more than any other minor leaguer. But, my position is for the team to "TRY" to win the WS "every year". That is the point of the game. Along those lines, I think the Twins should sign Story, sign Rodon, and trade for a couple more SP. That gives us the best chance to win in 2022. After the season, re-evaluate. My dream team for 2024 would be an infield of Kirilloff, Polanco, Story, Miranda. OF of Martin, Buxton, Lewis, C Jeffers/Rortvedt, utility Gordon, Larnach, Arraez. But, no matter where Lewis ends up playing, I want him to succeed and as a Twin. He will be my new favorite player as soon as he makes the squad and for as long as he succeeds. I am a big fan. By the way, thanks to all the TD contributors and commenters. Whether I agree or not, I love the comradery of this group.
  15. I think the Twins have a very bright future. I think our prospects will serve us well, with deep strong pitching prospects and deep strong hitting prospects. But, what we need to do is concentrate on 2022. I believe that MLB teams should be trying to win the WS every year. The Twins need a SS and pitching this year. Sign Story, sign Rodon and use Arraez, Kepler, Donaldson and or Sano as trade bait for another starter or two. We have the players to replace at least two of the trade pieces IMHO now. Miranda could and probably should be one of the replacement options. I believe this would make us a very competitive team this year. Next year we re-evaluate just like every year. If you are not trying to win, what is the point. The FO should be showing the fans that "they are trying to win". EVERY YEAR. That is their job. (LOL, what a dreamer, eh?)
  16. TD has been my most visited and most read site since I found it. Love the content and especially the comments. Love the opinions on the major league club. Love the opinions on the minor leagues and the superb info on Twins prospects. I am from Seths' hometown and know his family. Any other Perham natives following the site? Also, do you know of any other mlb teams that have super fan sites like TD? Well, keep up the great work. And I'll keep reading.
  17. To me, this is utter madness. When was the last CBA signed? How long has each side had to figure out what they believe is fair and what is not? Why at this point, have they not figured out what is fair to both sides. A new CBA should have been hammered out before the previous one ended. Why can't these ultra rich SOB's ever learn from the past? SOLUTION: Continue with the past CBA until they work out a compromise and if not complete by the end of season, call in a federal arbitrator. Not mediator. My prediction? They do whatever they end up doing with no regard to the fans or what is good for baseball. MLB will continue in a downward spiral until it someday implodes. Fans will be pissed for quite a while and then start throwing our money back at them. Then we can do this all over again when super rich isn't enough again.
  18. Isn't hindsight a wonderful thing?
  19. Nice top 10 prospects list. 7 of the 10 have have had very successful careers to this point. Looking forward to the current crop doing the same. (Or Better).
  20. Don't Sleep on Larnach. He will be an all-star. He will adjust to the off-speed pitches and I believe he will drastically improve on defense with good coaching. This kid will get another chance and will crush it. Hopefully with the Twins.
  21. IMHO both players being one and done is an absolute travesty. Totally dislike the voting system. Voters could vote for someone, just trying to keep them on the ballot, thinking very few would, and could effectively get them voted in on first ballot. Without being able to see other writers ballots the contrary result can leave deserving players out. There seems to be no sense to the voting process. And very little to reverse the process sans the Veterans Committee. Stinks in my opinion.
  22. I don't necessarily agree nor disagree with your take. But I love the word indubitably!
  23. Interesting thoughts, but I don't really think any of it plays until we find out what is in the new CBA, concerning arbitration and time till free agency. As parameters change for player movement, I believe Arraezs' value also changes at least to some extent.

    Bring on the kids

C - Garver 1B - Kirriloff 2B - Polanco 3B - Miranda SS - Story LF - Martin CF - Buxton RF - Larnach DH - Sano/Donaldson spelling 1B/3B Kepler/Arraez packaged for SP Gordon - utility IF/CF Jeffers - backup C Billy Hamilton - backup OF/with Celestino and Rooker in minors ready to contribute. SP - Rodon, Pineda, Ober, Ryan, Bundy/Dobnak - depending on whether we can get a SP for the Kepler/Arraez trade. RP - Rogers, Duffy, Alcala, Garza, Stashack, Thielbar, Thorpe. With plenty of arms in the minors for injuries and tryouts. This means we need to be active in the leftover FA market, but I think these are all do-able. And I also think this is a team that can compete for the division. And no, I don't drink or smoke dope.
  25. And I see JJ Watt, TJ Watt, Derek Watt Peyton Manning, Eli Manning with father Archie. Ken Griffey Sr. and Jr. and countless others with familial genes. Probably worth a shot IMHO.
