When will it end you ask? I still remember how I felt when Kirby was the first 3M per year player. I loved Kirby, but it blew my mind! 3 MILLION DOLLARS/YEAR????? To play baseball? LOL, those numbers have increased so exponentially, that I can no longer even comprehend the dollars, just try to use the numbers comparatively. Personally, I would think 3mil per year should still be enough to be the highest paid player in MLB! I worked my entire career and retired at 61 years old and in my whole life I never made 3mil. I'm not complaining. I've lived pretty well, but if I can find one of those 700 million dollar contracts to do anything, I think I'm just gonna pass. But, even so, I doubt that it will ever end.

The Twins Daily Table Setter: December 4, 2023
Heiny replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I think you could get Gilbert for Kepler, Julian and E-Rod. But would I make that trade? I would have to think pretty hard on it.- 23 replies

My problem with this take is that Lee has had just "ONE FULL SEASON OF PRO BALL". Who are we kidding? This kid certainly deserves a little more time to prove or disprove who and what he is and can become. My personal confidence in Lee is extremely high. I say no to trading him or Jenkins or Lewis. If that is the only way to get pitching, then I say we do nothing. But, that is not the only way. So figure out something else.

How bout Ray, and Woo for Polo, Vasquez, and Gordon?
-
Unless the return is mind blowing with a top of the rotation SP with multiple years of control, I would not trade Lewis, Lee, Jenkins, or Rodriquez. Anyone else can be packaged. But the strength in our youth is our future. There are pitchers out there that can help the team like Giolito, Woodruff, Montgomery, Rodriguez and others. And we have players that we can trade for prospects to free up some cash. That is up to the FO to figure out. I don't expect them to stand pat but it wouldn't surprise me either. I wonder how many of the better free agents that we will "be in on", but will get away. That seems to be a common occurrance. LOL. Anyway, I did like the write up and the downloaded trade suggestions. The suspense of the offseason though is one of the toughest parts of being a Twins fan.

So, are you saying that Kaat and Oliva should not be in the hall, or that there are other players not in that should be? Either way that's on the BBWAA.

Just my very humble opinion, but I have lost all respect for the BBWAA. Morneau didn't even get a second year ballot? So, although I respect the HOF, I don't think it's as glorious as it should be. And yes, I do think the flyover America teams are ignored to a degree vs. east coast and west coast teams. Jim Kaat, Bert Blyleven, Tony Oliva? What took so long?

I would definitely tender all of them, cuz the dollars are right for each of them. But then there would have to be some trades of at least a couple players. I think that Gordon for his money should draw some good interest. I think Polanco and Larnach(hate giving up on Larnach) would also draw interest. Throw in some prospects for SP. So many ways this could go, but this is the speculation season.

Are there any possible trade options out there? Maybe someone that could use a Polanco?

I think we need to consider a good defensive CF for backup purposes. Same as last year, which turned into a full time roll for MAT. CF is a defesive position where offense is a bonus. I'd love to see Martin take that spot, but the lack of experience in CF makes me skeptical to say the least. And we don't know if he can hit ML pitching yet either. Kiersey? possible. But I still think we need an experienced ML CF. I'd like to bring back MAT, and if we can't get that done, maybe Bader is the next best option.

Royce Lewis Reflects On an Incredible Season
Heiny replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Royce is a very talented player with a great attitude. He may become my favorite player since Harmon. And believe me that is saying alot. It is rare that a player comes along with the charachter and abilities that reach levels so much higher than all else on the field, especially with all the hot-dogging Divas in the game today. My Lewis jersey is on the way. -
Agree with this 100%. Would love to see the Twins sign two free agent SPs. Snell/Giolito, Rodriguez/Mongomery, Rodriquez/Giolioto, Montgomery/Giolito. And maybe to keep everyone happy to start the season at least, maybe go with a six man rotation to save on arms somewhat and keep Varland in the pen, where he has done quite well.

Damn the torpedos. Full Snell ahead. Why? Because we have a window open to us for the next several years. Snell for the next 4-5 years puts us in the position to jump through that window. The pie is just on the other side of the window and I'm getting hungry.

Big Dick Bremer fan. If this was a force out by the Twins, I have lost a ton of respect for the Twins management. Dick was and probably still is and always will be the most "loyal twins fan" in history. He needs to go directly in the HOF with his bust right next to his best and most entertaining broadcast partner, Bert Blyleven, whom I believe was also pushed out. 40 years of dedication and loyalty deserves better. Shame on you Minnesota Twins.

Brooks Lee's Anticipation Grows for His Moment in 2024
Heiny replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I love the way this offseason is shaping up. I see Lee as a very possible call-up in 2024, but even if he isn't, we still have a strong base of players already. And with that being said, we also have several valuable trade chips either separately or packaged, namely Polanco, Kepler, Larnach, Miranda, and yes even Walner and Julien not to mention many prospects not named Lee or Jenkins. Use some of these to aquire a starting pitcher and a CF. I'm already excited for next year. On a personal level, I would love to see Larnach, Martin, and Lee all in the bigs and playing well. In my opinion, the most likely to be traded are Polanco, Miranda, and Larnach. -
Walker Jenkins Has a Vision for 2024
Heiny replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Wait until he's 24????? That would be 5/6 years in the minors. LOL. that's not gonna happen!!!!! -
Drop Gordon and Luplow. Keep Alcala but on a very short leash. Needs to show some production from all the expected upside. No need for Luplow, period. Like Gordon, but I think his spot would be better utilized by others coming up.

I would like to see them give Larnach a first basemans glove and give him a try as Kirriloffs backup. I was always high on Larnach but he has proven to be a disappointment to this point. I'd like to see him get one more shot as a backup 1B and COF. If not he should still have some trade value. I also wish he would show a little more fire.

It's great to see him doing so well in his first season as a pro and I'm very excited for him. But let's see what happens in 2024 before making a Joe Mauer out of him. He's so young. Let him play. His performance will dictate how fast he moves up. Nothing wrong with being excited and hoping he is a future superstar, but time will tell. I'm honestly very happy with both of our last two top picks.(including Lee) But let's not put too much pressure on the kids cuz really, they are still just kids. Enjoy the present. The future will play out how it plays out. See you at the ballpark.
