  1. Spent the morning at the Univ of Minnesota Agri fields. Bud is a horticulturist out there, working on industrial hemp and sorghum (we squeeze it every fall for syrup). Come along. We also spent time with a plant geneticist who is working on crossing sweet corn until he gets 50/50, burgundy kernels/yellow kernels. Click on pics for narrative. 2. Have the A's/Angels on MLB.com TV. Rooker hit a two-run bomb, pushing his OPS to .800. Also love the circus like atmosphere of Oak-Alameda stadium and the "open" bullpen, where the BP is right on the playing surface. Escobar is pinch hitting for the Angels. Hitting .231. Trevor May closed against Angels. Stats here: https://www.mlb.com/player/trevor-may-543507
  3. I haven't been upset. I haven't been frustrated with him. I have been frustrated that such a phenomenal athlete is unable to compete to his fullest because of a seemingly weaker muscle/skeletal condition.. If I have to describe the feeling, I guess it would be sad. Sad for Buxton and the situation which it presents. I was frustrated with the Twins for tying up the DH role for so long when it was clear that Buxton was struggling but was unable to compete. Stop. It doesn't do the athlete (Buxton) or the team any good. Absolutely. I can not begin to imagine what he feels like.
  4. Amtrak is invariably late, coming thru the Dakota oil fields. BNSF owns the line which Amtrak runs on and the oil runs take priority. I have ridden Amtrak plenty of times and love rail travel. I just don't set my watch to Amtrak time like I could do on trains in Europe/Scandinavia. Don't park downtown. $16-20. Plenty of parking along Greenline (yes, it runs at all hours). Raymond stop, Lexington (my parking area), midway between Target Field and Union Station (last stop on Greenline). Park on side street north of University (~1100 block of Charles). 1/2 hour to Target; 20 min to Union Station. Give a yell here or message me if you have more questions. Ticket is good for 2 hours if you have to scoot out of game early.
  5. Danchat is referring to Buxton. From Strib's Miller: "Byron Buxton experienced soreness in the patella tendon of his right knee on Friday, and was removed from Saints' game after two at-bats as DH, a Twins spokesman says. Team will evaluate and update his condition on Saturday." Ouch.
  6. Verlander got rocked for 6 ERs in 6 inn by Yanks, Friday eve

      This is a good thing.

      Except for the Yanks part.

  7. Factoid: Duran has given up 6 HRs this year. Lance Lynn has given up 37.
  8. Saw Eddie Fayner (?) and the boys, Geneva NY (Single A, NY-P League), 1978.
  9. SRO on Monday vs Astros. 48,000 capacity. 4K seats avail Tues, 5K on Wed. Love to have that crowd.
  10. Donaldson to Brewers AAA Nashville. https://www.mlb.com/news/josh-donaldson-signs-minor-league-deal-with-brewers
  11. With a .958 compiled at short this year, maybe he goes to 2nd with Julien as an awfully young DH. I am afraid Polanco's wheels are finished. Let's see what rest of year brings.
  12. Lee isn't fielding a clean year at SS. He is fielding .958 at Wichita and StP.
  13. So much for LLynn helping the Dodgers. Have the game on radio, Atlanta/LA. Lynn got shelled for 6 ERs in 2 inn of work 60 pitches, 2 gopher balls. Couldn't happen to a nicer guy. BP must be gassed -- Davey Roberts sent Lynn out for the 3rd.
  14. What surprises me is that they were sellers and now are buyers. I need to review their "sells" from Aug 1.
  15. Why do we cite our perception of other's being wrong? Present our case and leave it for others to decide. While I mean no disrespect to you, I have seen this occurring a bit too often recently. "The TD writers said..."
  16. I would settle for good, competitive ball however far Twins go.
  17. I don't mourn the loss of one game. I begin to mourn when I realize that after Nov 4, we have no baseball for nearly 4 months. Now there is something to mourn,
  18. I would do it for baseball, not just a particular club, ie Twins. I will go anywhere for a game, and I have. Traveled the whole Midwest via Amtrak for a series of 6 games. Find a good restaurant, a nice bar, a great sightline at Target Field, surrounded by super friendly fans. Depends on whether your needs are for a Twins win or an experience.
  19. The fat person has sung. (Or as my daughter would correct me, "Dad, it is the thick person has sung.")
  20. Yeah, understand our difference and mine is respectfully against the main drift here. I just have no confidence in BP right now that needs to be factored in.
  21. Still old school (understand day off/rested BP). Were I Rocco, I would have gone down and chatted w/Gray and asked him what was left in the tank. Bet that Francona would have, even if it were to congratulate Gray. (Rocco well may have done that. Doubtful though).
  22. 81 pitches. Back onto the mound, Rocco.
  23. Wallner. I don't have video. Just before Wallner came up, tons of comments on how poor his fielding was (w/rocket arm). In listening to games on radio, I don't "hear" that poor fielding. Your perceptions on his fielding?
  24. Gladden's brilliant statement at the moment Lupow pinch hit for Gallo: "That's one of the toughest decisions a manager has to make." Irony: Sending up a guy who is 0-last 13, pinch hitting for a guy who is 0-last 17. Aw, Danny,,,
