  1. Is the vest gone? Didn't see Polanco having it on.
  2. I thought the Rangers radio booth was so bad I switched back to Gladden.,
  3. Gotta' love Chicago. 2 people shot at last night's game. "Two people attending a Major League Baseball game were shot at Guaranteed Rate Field Stadium in Chicago on Friday night, officials said." https://www.nytimes.com/2023/08/25/us/chicago-white-sox-baseball-game-shooting.html
  4. They lost -- Cleve and Texas seem determined to puke up their chances.
  5. Though we live in Como Park, we drive to the Presbyterian church on Larpenteur and shuttle in and out. Will do enough walking at the Fair; needn't walk to the gate.
  6. That is a good bar bet with some loudmouth at the rail.
  7. I am in St Paul. Will MLB.com black the game out on us?
  8. Our street in Como Park is jammed with you guys.
  9. Demolish and destroy him. Tail tucked between legs as he walks off mound in the 3rd inn .
  10. Never have been. But, oh, to watch him fly in CF. Now there is pleasure. Not justifying putting him in at DH or playing him if he is hurt. He has a body with a muscles and skeletal system which can't stand the rigors of the game. Poor on-field participation rate and offensive stats clearly reflect that.
  11. Had to chuckle. I am in the same boat but I realize that I "liked" Gardy and just find Baldelli unappealing on a variety of measures. There's bias which affects an objective assessment but... I can still dislike Rocco. <Winks>. Lots.
  12. They actually are 17th. .73 per game, down from .82 last year. Yeah, I was surprised as well. https://www.teamrankings.com/mlb/stat/grounded-into-double-plays-per-game
  13. Bald(sic)elli growing 'er in for Winter?
  14. Pretty bleak AAA Omaha attendance based on clips from behind home and right field/1st base.
  15. KC playing this card but the move will be to North Kansas City.
  16. Aren't the WSox satire personified?
  17. Sorry if I missed it.
  18. La Russa back in as a consultant, What a mess that franchise is. https://www.stltoday.com/sports/professional/mlb/cardinals/cancer-battle-behind-him-former-cardinals-manager-tony-la-russa-pitches-in-on-white-sox/article_b647158e-4213-11ee-ae37-63040913f22d.html Will Francona retire? "I need to go get healthy for my life, and this lifestyle is just too difficult," Francona said Wednesday. "I also know how I feel about doing the job a certain way, and I don't think I can necessarily do that anymore. And that bothers me." Baseball would miss him. Maybe we can lobby Cleve to pick up Popkins as field mgr since they need some punch (winks). https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/38247157/guardians-manager-terry-francona-planning-multiple-operations-mum-retirement
  19. Tragic, both personally as an injury and to the diminished contract coming up this winter. "But if he has to undergo a second Tommy John surgery, which has a much lower success rate than a first operation..." (From Bollinger's MLB article.) A nickel's worth of reading on 2nd TJ surgery shows a mixed bag of results w/Evoladi's success being held up as a high performing outlier.
  20. Something is amiss. Arraez is hitting .235 for the month of August.
  21. Tony gets company in Arizona. "CHICAGO -- The White Sox announced executive vice president Ken Williams and general manager Rick Hahn have been relieved for their responsibilities, effective immediately." https://www.mlb.com/news/ken-williams-rick-hahn-relieved-of-white-sox-duties
  22. Joe Maddon's book biases me here. Maddon suggests that stats are critical. He fully integrated them into his thinking. But Maddon dug more deeply into years of understanding the game, his players strengths, what players were dealing with at home, relationships with players, and years of similar events which he calls his intuition, his GUT. These aren't necessarily a conscious awareness. It is a complicated algorithm run in the manager's subconscious and must be integrated and trusted in making conscious decisions.
