  1. Tough challenge to think this one through. Some excellent responses, thx. I dove into Baseball Reference to look at some pitching stats. Revealing Quality starts, 1st, 50%, league avg 35% Run support for starters 15th Bequeathed runners scoring, 25th (ducks on the pond is killing them) BP avg ERA, 16th BP is surrendering runners on base as well as giving up runs Inn pitched avg start, 5th -- 5.6 inn (severe compression in data as everyone is pulling the starter) I guess I am not believing STATs are ruining the Twins pitching decisions. Seems offensive support is marginal (no surprise). We can discuss lineup and choice of pinch inserts, batting philosophy, individual performance (Buxton/Correa) and BP. I believe an over reliance on stats does impact offensive efforts. So, I have a half criticism of Baldelli/FO, not a full criticism.
  2. I knew it, I just knew it!
  3. If you ain't been to Kopps, you ain't been to Milwaukee. Best custard I have ever had (it's not soft ice cream -- it's custard). Great sloppy burgers and I loved them. Leon's custard rates right up there with Kopps. https://chicagofoodiesisters.blogspot.com/2016/11/kopps-in-milwaukee-wisconsin.html
  4. Chefs and cooks. The Spice House at the Public Market. Need sausages to grill when you tailgate? Only one place for me. Usinger's downtown. https://www.usinger.com/visit-usingers Italian deli? I sadly miss their meatball sandwiches and Italian sausages lathered with sauce. 1011 E Brady, close to downtown. https://gloriosos.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/gloriososdelimenu.pdf
  5. A game at Cedar Rapids is Americana at its best.
  6. Cheese. Hit the cheese vendor at the Market or this shop, West Allis Cheese and Sausage shop. Look for a 17 yr cheddar. You will reach heaven. Coffee. Hit Stonecreek shop near the train station. Fantastic shop and coffee in an old warehouse where Stoncreek does their roasting.
  7. I was torn between attending town ball or seeing Kuechel throw -- I had seen him pitch at St Paul and wanted to see him in MLB. Town ball was our choice. I think he can serve as a mentor to the younger staff. He is a class act and has been to the dance. If he falters as a starter, room for him in the pen to eat innings.
  8. Two more weekends. Invite a friend. Schedules of the tourneys are here: https://mnbaseball.org
  9. One win and a series win needn't be the only small sample on which to render an opinion of a manager's ability to assess, know, and lead a ball club. Baldelli? A man with an over-reliance on statistical analysis. Please don't categorize fans as an "either/or." It's a faulty syllogism. Just one fan who believes he is not getting the most from his ballplayers or club. Can he take this assembled group to the next level in their potential or success? No. Our assessments differ, that's all. We view through different lenses.
  10. Took in two games of Class B at Waconia yesterday. Wasn't as competitive as I have seen in Class C in years past. Some very sloppy ball. Waconia has a delightful park for the games. https://www.waconiabaseball.com/page/show/1179984-lion-s-field, Attendance was poor. Guy sitting behind me explained "class" assignments of 300 teams. MN leads the US in number of teams. How interesting that in this era of migration to urban areas, MN with a rural base, can field so many teams. Residency: Must live w/I 30 crow miles of team village/town/city ballpark Class C is pretty much assigned to teams from the smallest cities. No college ballplayers declaring univ address can be on C-rosters. Teams from Class C can advance to Class B based on series points awarded for tourney wins in past year Teams in Class A are defined by specific geographic roads in the Twin Cities.. College ballplayers must declare parents' address of univ address. Mercy rules (10 runs) at 7 inn. 11. While I am not sure of the move, I loved it. The lad is from my alma mater!
  12. He's like a kid with his first iPad, not a manager who knows his players nor a man who leads with some intuition.
  13. The quality (sic) of the AL Central may well force MLB to hasten expansion w/new franchises. With Oak issued resolved (?) w/its move to Vegas, MLB may quickly add new franchises and realign a geographic setup w/NL teams. Owners have a vested interest to fix the AL Central Div. They know they need a more competitive product. Might we see a "MLB North Central," with the addition of Cubs, Reds, Brewers?
  14. Cabrera may be retiring but has $30MM contract years in '24 and '25.
  15. Ober is out of gas. He is at 130 inn pitched with 39 games to go. Most he has ever pitched in the pros is 108 prior to this year. Playoffs? Momentum. Key to deep playoff run. I am most interested in last 8-10 games of the season, as Cleve seems to be on the ropes. Regardless, not sure how deeply Twins will go. Some records to date: Record against >.500 Twins 27-31 Atlanta 41-25 Baltimore 40-30 Likely 1st Round Opponent (Twins have advantage, all 3 games at home. Dreadful 1-game playoff format is gone). Twins at home: 35-25 On the road: Houston, 37-26 Seattle, 33-27 Toronto, 35-29 Rays, 34-28 At home Rangers 42-22 Braves 41-20 Rays 40-22 Dodgers 41-21 Where they stand a chance? Brewers >.500, 33-36 Phils >.500, 37-36 Gosh, would love to see Twins advance to WS w/Phils and crush them and their awful fans.
  16. I will buy the sushi to make this happen. (I think I am safe speaking out of me arse).
  17. I bet the plantar fasciitis has him down in the ol' heels.
  18. Get Maeda some runs Twins. Let him pitch with the wind at his back.
  19. Julien needs work under game circumstances. Let him learn and earn it for next year when you add Lee to the mix.
  20. The root cause might well be the Tigers club wishes to be a spoiler. Knowing their fortune, it is good to kick the mediocre King of Division in the shins when you have a chance. Had the game on Detroit radio. Dan Dickerson suggested that Hinch wanted Faedo to gain a win, go to the bench with some confidence, moving his record to 2-5 after 9 starts this year. By the way, he is allowing a .202 hitting against opponents and commands a .99 wHip.
  21. Entertainment it is. Like another poster, having lived in over 10 states and consumed numerous ball teams, I am a ball fan first and the Twins secondarily. I enjoy a competitive, well played game more than a sloppy, blowout victory. I enjoy discussions which analyze clubs and their games constructively. I find that at TD. Of course some fans become overly zealous in criticism. That is to be expected of fans. I have seen that fanaticism wherever I have lived. I can cull insights from chatter but my responses and involvement might well be seen as blather by others. It is inherent in those devoted to a team.
  22. Cleve up 3-0 against Reds. Bottom 9.
  23. I think Chief sneezed in his pants. Notable absence.
  24. Detroit radio booth said they have never seen him look so good -- best game of the year. Is that Faedo or is that the Twins?
