Cardinals can afford to rebuild. Attendance is averaging over 41,000, actually up a few hundred over 2022 despite a horrible year. Spoiled: been at Busch Stadium. A knowledgeable, loyal base, attending group. Trades? Not interested. Going after Goldy or Arenado is a straw-man approach to fix fundamental problems. Would have to surrender too many prospects. Focus on 2024 and beyond.

This comes from Baldelli's inability to view things on a macro level. He is consumed by data and loses a feel for the game, his players, and a larger picture of his role as a leader. He has not grown into his position. E-Mgr.

    Hilarious!

First place is immaterial to me. What I am interested in is quality ball. We don't have that. Offense is anemic -- leadership is absent. Stats trump a sense or awareness of his players. My fear is that the FO is going to dump a bunch of prospects at trade deadline in an effort to shore up glaring holes. It will take more than one or two trades to rectify this dysfunctional organization.

    2nd half moves

While I agree with you, Twins won't do it. They are not prepared to eat, what $5.5MM?

Man, how I wish every child could have this kind of support.

Someone has to help me with this one. It has been 58 years since I sat in Mr DeCarlo's geometry class.

I have come to believe that the Twins risk management department structured an insurance plan which has backfired. Buxton's knee isn't good enough to play CF but not bad enough to meet the clause in the insurance contract which would indemnify the Twins for his absence. Hence, Buxton clogs the DH role.

Today's score. 10 ddays of drying on bird feeder hook, clean 'em up and share w/bud and daughter. Largest get saved for planting.

Same w/my corn (35% germ). I had to find another sh2 variety, shorter maturity to plant within it. Going to plant yellow peas at the end of July in area of just-dug garlic. Gets nitrogen back in soil; other half of garlic bed will be field peas (black eye peas) which are really good and productive. Use them like steamed green beans.

Wife has family in Kristiansand, Oslo, Ramsdal (summer home only accessible by row boat), and Tønsberg. Where you headed? For my money, Norway is the most gorgeous place on earth. Loved, loved, loved Bergen.

If you are in Metro Area, Hugo Feed Mills have pepper plants. This year he had 403 varieties. https://www.hugofeedmill.com/peppers-tomatoes/

Just harvested 50 garlic with 3 RIP because of wild spade. Oh well. Chesnook Red are very nice - about 4 yrs with same seed, larger every year. Bud 16. Picked the variety up at Garlic Festival in Hutchinson last August. Gorgeous, large. Mine are gorgeous, medium. Not my soil. Tested. Not the moisture. Watered 1" per week. Side dressed with alfalfa and bone meal. My friend teaches at UM Ag School. Let him play detective. Will be ordering some Korean Red and Georgian Fire from Keene. I have bought from them in the past and was very pleased. https://keeneorganics.com/product-category/certified-organic/ Bud said buy local (not at Johnny's i.e. too far away). Garlic like regional brothers and sisters.

OT: Went with sweet potatoes this year. 5 of us guys compete with a different veggie/crop every year, all using same seed/cuttings. My Murasakis lookin' fine. https://www.ufseeds.com/product/murasaki-purple-sweet-potato-slips/SPMP.html

Question for the group: The former GM of Rockies who was on night one said about some 6'5" CF: "With that size, long term will move to right." Is he suggesting that on the downside of age 27 he will slow down? Is that true for most athletes or is he talking about any 6'5" CF?

Headed out to the garden to dig my garlic and do some weeding. Phone/MLB.com in my back pocket for coverage of day 3. I like Zion Jones, C, High school, Florida. Why him? Like his name. MLB script says CF or C. https://www.mlb.com/video/2023-draft-zion-rose?t=mlb-draft

Devlin, a couple of ideas 1) Based on his own experience, what advice would he give to draftees who sign with the Twins? What would benefit them the most as they transition from amateur to pro ball? 2) If he had to do it all over again, what would he have done differently as a pro ballplayer? 3) What was his biggest surprise as he made the transition from amateur ball to pro ball?

Bethune Cookman Div III. Not sure how tough opposition was but scout surely was familiar with it. Lots of unearned runs relative to total ERs in Santos' stats. Some sloppy ball. Threw two games against Div I (Univ So Fla/South Carolina) and got hammered. https://bcuathletics.com/sports/baseball/roster/nolan--santos/4716

Round 7 Nolan Santos, Bethune Cookman. A Historical Black College. I used to attend Florida A&M / Bethune Cookman football games when I lived in Tampa. Lousy football but marching bands? Phenomenal. Bethune had a one legged tackle who blocked on PATs. Great human interest story.
