    AK may not be a gold glover at first but he’s not a butcher either, like Sano was. I still think he will be a very productive player offensively if he stays healthy.

    Hitting the ball hard is important, but getting hits is more important than speed off the barrel of the bat. Arraez comes to mind as an example. Let’s hope Miranda has an excellent season.

    We don’t have to over think this. It’s about his health. No pulled hamstring running to first base. No concussion running into the wall. No broken hand when hit by a pitch. Sarcastically no hangnails or mystery injuries that keep him on the injured list for a month. He needs to play 140 games, with at least 120 in the outfield. 260 BA, high OPS, 25 home runs, 90 RBI.

    No! You can’t move a successful high leverage closer to starting pitcher in the middle of the season. I hate giving up top prospects, but if the team is doing well but a frontline starter is the missing piece for a serious World Series run, they will use prospects to make the trade, even for a half season.

    A little off subject, but Dick Bremer was excellent and will be missed. I don’t recall Span being on the broadcasts. The others are fine, especially Perkins. The only concern I have is with Smalley, who has a lot of baseball insight, but constantly stammers.

    The Dobnak contract was always a head scratcher to me. He was basically a four inning starter with marginal success, yet the FO thought that he had earned a four year $9+ million contract. Remember when most starters actually pitched more than 200 innings and had multiple complete games? Me neither!

    An interesting list. I hope Festa does have a high upside and helps this year, but calling him the “crown jewel” of this draft seems a little hyperbolic. It’s more like he’s the last player standing after all the trades.

    Sano looked like a young Miguel Cabrera when he first came up. He hit to all fields and with power. For whatever reason, likely a change in team hitting philosophy, he tried to pull everything, resulting in high strikeout rates. And he did look out of shape despite his large frame. I wish him well in his comeback.

    The Twins are finally poised for a strong playoff run and the Pohlads say no on acquiring a starter, except maybe from the scrap heap? I’m hoping for a one year contract for Montgomery or Snell. Maybe take a flyer on Keller or Syndergard, but the rest? No thanks.

    The FO trading for damaged goods has become a pattern. Paddock, Mahle, now DeSlifani. The players lost in those trades, mainly to Cincinnati, have hurt the team greatly.

    I’m old school and still prefer some hitters who can make contact consistently. Not sure who deified Taylor. He played pretty well as a Buxton fill in and was excellent defensively. Taylor also had some clutch hits. Gallo’s primary calling card is power, but he batted .177 and struck out 142 times in 282 AB’s, both cringeworthy numbers, Had he batted .221 like Taylor did that would have been acceptable, but he’s a boom or bust hitter who doesn’t put the ball in play. Glad he is gone and hopefully replaced by someone who can get on base.

    projecting Larnach over Wallner in left must be a brain cramp.

    Thanks for the history lesson on the team. My recollection who as a kid remembers the first game they ever played beating the Yankees 6-0 behind Pedro Ramos, was Carl did seriously consider contraction.

    I live in Arizona. You have explained it perfectly. The ballpark isn’t that old and is right downtown.

    I think the Twins will take a wait and see approach on the utility guy and don’t want to spend the money if a young guy can come through. Let’s see what Martin and Castro can do in spring training or maybe someone unexpected from the minors.

    Some think that signing Santana means Kiriloff is trade bait because Santana plays first base very well. My take is that Santana was signed to DH and play first against lefties because they believe Buxton is finally healthy. Kiriloff play first against righties. Right now Kiriloff wouldn’t have a lot of trade value, given his injury history. Any trade of Kiriloff for a significant starter would have to include a package of ML ready prospects like the disastrous Mahle trade. So I believe Kiriloff is on the team for now. Also I’m not a big fan of moving Julien to first base, though I understand the rationale, to get Lee into the lineup at second. It’s a good problem to have.

    For the past several years every time Buxton ran at full speed I cringed, expecting another pulled muscle, collision with the fence causing a concussion, broken bone, etc. I’m hoping this year his health helps me get past that expectation of injury and he has a great season. Of both he and Correa are healthy this lineup will be awesome!

    Agreed. Let Martin be who he is, a line drive hitter with excellent speed who gets on base and can play multiple positions. The obsession with power makes the team blind to Martin’s strengths. I hope they learned a lesson.

    Thanks for the clarification in how the new rules work. Adding an incentive to bring a rookie to the major league roster and not play that waiting game is a win win . Can’t wait to see Lee this season! The Twins pipeline of potential impact players: Lewis, Julien, Wallner, Martin, Festa, and coming soon Raya, Jenkins, Gabriel Gonzalez and ERodriquez. If the starting pitching holds up it should be a fun run for the next five years.

    Thanks for pointing out the financial challenges going forward. Shedding the contracts of Farmer, Vasquez, and Kepler will provide about $26 million of flexibility. It wouldn’t surprise me if Farmer is traded this year, as he is an expensive backup infielder. The Vasquez contract makes it difficult to trade him. The Dobnak contract, although not that big, was always a head scratcher, given how little he accomplished as a four inning starter. And it does add to the payroll challenge.

    No to Lewis in the outfield. Last time that didn’t go well and he is an infielder. Figure out something else.

    It’s a good issue to discuss: which of these young shortstops, Miller or De Andrade, has the highest ceiling. Let’s hope one of the emerges as an excellent major leaguer defensively and offensively.

    Bellinger in an already lefty heavy lineup doesn’t make sense, although he’s a real good player, and he would want a hefty contract, even for one year. Bringing back Taylor is more likely IMO. Either Montgomery or Snell would be a big boost to the rotation. But right now it looks like the FO is planning to shuttle relievers from St. Paul to eat up innings because of expected short starts.
