  1. A team like the Phillies or Atlanta might take a swing at Kepler if they can’t find a better trade. And Wallner is raking right now in AAA, so there is a least an option at that position. My guess is the Twins keep Kepler and then let him go as a free agent. I see no qualifying offer on the table, as the price would be high and Kepler would be foolish to turn it down at his age. And ownership has returned to its penurious Pohlad way.
  2. Hopefully Morris continues his march to the big leagues. On an unrelated note a pet peeve of mine on announcers. I wish the AA play by play guy would stop using future tense when he describes action that has already happened. For example “3/2 delivery gonna be strike three”. No, strike three has already happened, it’s not going to happen in the near future. It just seems that if you make your living doing play be play, it’s more professional to use the proper tense in describing the action. Sorry for “gonna be” venting on this minor issue.
  3. Lewis is a budding superstar and the face of the franchise. When a team has such a player they have to make every effort to get a long term deal done.
  4. The Twins should give an explanation of how they are handling Raya. Are there injury concerns or some other issue that they are keeping quiet. Is Raya’s smaller stature an issue? Why not let the fans know why they are so cautious.
  5. With early picks take the best players according to your draft board, not on minor league position needs.
  6. The only reason to trade any top prospects is if this team is poised for a strong playoff run, which this team clearly isn’t. Keep building this team for next year and hopefully a serious future run.
  7. Clickbait article! Glad this writer isn’t the GM! A silly concept to remove Jax from where he exhibits great success and switch him to starting halfway during the season. Wait until spring 2025 if they would consider this.
  8. Nit picking here. But I wish the AA announcer would use present tense instead of future tense in describing action, which is more professional. For example, when describing a home run, “It’s gonna get out of here!” when it already has. Almost every call is in future tense. That’s not the key to moving on up in play by play, IMO. The only surprise is that management hasn’t expected this.
  9. Agree on the analysis of SWR and his improvement. He is still pretty young and this team needs starters to emerge. Since they don't have a number one starter they have to depend on depth in the rotation, especially since they let Sonny Gray walk.
  10. OMG! “weighted sweet-spot exit velocity, created by TD managing editor Matthew Trueblood”. Really! It’s not enough to have “exit velocity”. Now we have to have “sweet spot exit velocity”? Please stop with the over the top analytics!
  11. Jenkins just needs good health and at bats.
  12. I think you are correct. Now it’s dogmatically adhere to analytics and swing for the fences instead of the old school philosophy of making contact they seem to have completely abandoned. It will be interesting to see how this obsession with analytics affects an on base guy like Austin Martin, whose best tools seem to be to get on base by spraying hits and using his speed to put pressure on the defense. Every team still needs players who can get on base and not just hit home runs. Sadly the Twins haven’t figured that out yet.
  13. Click bait article. These suggestions are just band aids on a cut jugular. The Twins have again shown that they aren’t ready for prime time, are just a fringe playoff team with no number one starter and too many under performers like Correa, Buxton, Kiroloff, Vasquez. Margot, and Farmer. And Vasquez is virtually untradeable due to his $10 million contract and dismal performance. So a trade for backup catcher Diaz does little to address the bigger issues.
  14. To be honest this team isn’t a serious contender for a playoff run. So any trade to shore up a position at the expense of younger players with potential is just rearranging the deck chairs. Too many mediocre players like Kiriloff and Larnach and underperforming highly paid players like Buxton and Correa. And there is no number one starter, as Lopez keeps reminding us. They might win 87 games and be a wild card, but they aren’t going anywhere until they have more impact players and better starting pitching.
  15. Buxton now looks like a $15 million late inning defensive replacement, and that’s assuming he can stay healthy. It is now probable that he will spend at least two IL stints of two weeks or more each season, and then have flailing at bats for ten days while trying to regain his timing. Such a promising career destroyed by injuries.
  16. Good point! The FO is loathe to admit its mistakes, which is confirmed by keeping Gallo and his 45% strikeout rate last year.
  17. An Alonso trade only makes sense if his bat is the missing piece for a serious WS run. But this team is only a fringe playoff team with a penurious owner that has cut payroll, a move that drastically reduces their playoff chances. And they don’t have a number one starter. So trading some top prospects for Alonso makes no sense.
  18. Given the team’s lack of front line starters let’s hope a couple of these guys deserve to move quickly, like Mathews and Ohl. The inability of the FO to develop number 1 or 2 type starters is stark, but maybe these guys can change that. A stable of mid or back end rotation guys won’t get it done in the playoffs. Every strong team needs a shut down starter, like Verlander in his prime, and Pablo Lopez and Joe Ryan aren’t that guy.
  19. I have lost confidence in the FO’s ability to trade for injury free starting pitchers, as recent history has shown. That said, IF Lozardo can be had for some combination of Larnach or Wallner, Miranda or Lee or Julien and Raya ( who never gets to pitches more than 3 innings for some reason), or Varland and another lower level prospect, they should do it. Miami could get two guys with ML experience and another piece or two at the MiL level as they rebuilt. Win win.
  20. The front office doesn’t whine about trading for injured pitchers. They stay VERY QUIET!
  21. This click bait idea only makes sense if Miller is the missing piece for a serious WORLD series run. But this team has too many lineup holes, and has star quality player like Buxton and Lewis who are injury prone. So they are not a serious playoff contender. Also the management has a history of trading for injury prone pitchers, so there is that.
  22. They won’t rush Rodriquez this year when there are viable options ahead of him. But EROD should be in position for a call up next year if he keeps hitting well this year. A promotion to AAA this year would be a big step.
  23. it is time for Twins fans to accept that Buxton will always miss at least 25% of every season because he is injury prone. But he and Correa need to start producing offensively for this team to be a playoff contender. If that happens and Lewis is healthy for the rest of the season their prospects are improved. The rest of the lineup is unexciting, especially compared to Atlanta or the Yankees, which have real fire power lineups.
  24. These examples just show the risk and reward for trades. Sadly this FO made trades for starting pitchers with potential injury concerns that hurt position depth. But they did hit on other trades, as pointed out here, especially acquiring Joe Ryan and Duran. Escobar was popular, but wasn’t anywhere near the popularity of Arraez IMO.
