  1. So the low bar for proving the doubters wrong on Buxton is him playing 100 games? Seriously? The good news is he was able to stay healthy enough play that many games in CF. The bad news is that’s only 60% of the season. But he missed significant time AGAIN with injuries, including the massive slide in the final forty games when they really needed him. He did hit well when he played, as his .280 average and power numbers show. But he is now a part time player who cannot be counted on to be there when needed. The roster has to be constructed with that unassailable fact in mind.
  2. I’m not sure “massive” is the best adjective to describe SWR’s season. He was generally effective and often gave them innings as a number five starter. And unlike Paddock and Ryan, he was able to finish the season without injury. Unless he develops a 97 mph fastball or another good secondary pitch, number five starter seems to be his ceiling, not much of a return for Berrios.
  3. Playoffs! Playoffs! This team is dead in the water! No offense, bad pitching, especially the bullpens and rookie starters 3-5, and defense. Add to that Baldelli’s inability to manage his starters and ownership back to their old Pohlad penny pinching, and the season has become a disaster! They don’t deserve to be in the playoffs. Detroit has earned that right, given their surge for the last two months. Go Tigers!
  4. Radke should be at the top of this list, and it’s not even close. A simple Google search on TWINS pitching would have made this apparent.
  5. The Dobnak signing several years ago for 9+ million was always a head scratcher. He was never anything more than a four inning pitcher, yet they kept starting him and gave him an unearned contract, another black mark on this administration. Seems like he gets lit up more than he has a good outing. Keirsey bats left handed, just like Kepler, Larnach, and Waldner. So that’s probably why he hasn’t been on the roster all year, despite his hitting and elite defense. He has nothing left to prove in the minors, so hopefully they give him a legit shot next year with Kepler, and hopefully Margot, on their way out.
  6. This is on ownership. The FO would have acquired more pitching if the Pohlads allowed it. I guess they forgot the business adage “ You have to spend money to make money.” Now here they are, dragging themselves towards the finish line, likely being passed the surging Tigers. What a disappointing season!
  7. Wondering where you got your information that Culpepper is turning heads. It sure isn’t at the plate, where he barely hit .220 in A+, though it wasn’t very many games. Hoping he is legit ML shortstop with a strong hit tool.
  8. See what Santana wants for salary on a one year contract, and decide if they agree. Otherwise use the other options mentioned. They do have lots of infield options. I am especially curious about the 5’4”, 185 pound infielder Payton Eeles, who has had an excellent season from A+ to AAA, after signing from an independent league. If he can play solid defense he could be a real find, AND a great story!
  9. It’s great to see Wallner showing improvement as the year progressed. His power is elite, as is his rifle arm. I’m not a big fan of totally dismissing strikeouts for power idea, an overrated trend amongst the analytics crowd. But Wallner’s strikeout issues are of less concern if the rest of the lineup can make contact, unlike last year’s team.
  10. The FO seems unconcerned about the injury histories of pitchers, and it has cost the team plenty.
  11. The Gray trade was solid, given that he gave them two very good seasons. Petty may be ready for the ML by next year, three years after the trade. So this trade was a good one for both teams. The Twins gave up a lot for one year of Mahle, who did have injury concerns. Add to that the trade for the often injured Paddock and some front offices would have been fired. Definitely a black mark on this FO.
  12. Good information on Prielipp. But I wonder about the comment that the system is producing left handers with consistency. They have a lefty BP arm or two, but I can’t remember the last time they produced a solid lefty starter. Hopefully Prielipp becomes one as soon as next year.
  13. That depends on what the player said, even in this example. Curse or insult the ump, you’re gone!
  14. Dumpster diving agains but probably a better option than Richards, who was a head scratching move when it happened and even more puzzling as we have seen him pitch. Makes me feel sorry for the catchers, trying to work with this guy. Writing on the wall for other relievers like Winder.
  15. Rocco seems like he is a player’s manager, which the players would like. My criticism of him is that he is too reliant on analytics at the expense of using his intuition and showing some trust in his players, especially the pitching staff. Third time through the lineup. The computer algorithm says….new pitcher, especially with the younger ones, regardless of how the starter is throwing. I will admit that he is showing a little more patience this year, and the team even has a COMPLETE GAME! Who knew that is allowed! He also embraces the Earl Weaver approach, doesn’t do much base stealing, hit and run, etc. And they are making a lot of base running blunders that are costing them games. Ultimately, I despise the total fixation on analytics at the expense of using your managing skills and intuition. Just my opinion.
  16. I’m not a big Rocco fan. But It would help if you would give some examples to back up your opinion that he has”destroyed more young players’ careers than he has helped.”
  17. The Richards trade smack of doing a trade for the sake of trade. When you walk five batters in one inning you should not be on the team.
  18. Lots of things ERod needs to work on, starting with staying injury free. But there is a lot to like: power, good walk to strikeout ratio, athleticism, strong arm. The Twins already have chronically injured players in Buxton and Lewis, who both miss significant segments of every season because of injuries. Let’s hope ERod isn’t another fragile player.
  19. From what we’ve seen so far I’m not convinced that Festa is more than a mid rotation guy. Also, Rocco doesn’t trust him to pitch more than five innings, but he does that to any rookie starter, including Ober. Hopefully I am wrong and Festa continues to emerge. Matthews is intriguing because of his pinpoint control and mid 90s fastball and secondary stuff. He might have the highest ceiling of this group. With a middling fastball, SWR does seems like a solid back of the rotation starter who could give the team 150 innings. But I believe his fastball sits in low 90s, which isn’t great at this level. I agree with other comments that Varland would be a lights out reliever, but with the dearth of quality starters across MLB they do need to see if he can get the job done as a starter. As for Priellip, he is at least pitching now and getting in some innings, regardless of the results. He can spend the winter getting back to where he wants to be, and hopefully start ramping up next year with quality innings.
  20. No one is talking about first base, except as click bait. Moving such a great athlete to first would be management malfeasance.
  21. Lewis is a great athlete and is fast despite his numerous leg injuries. He will get better with constant playing time. We already saw the result of playing him waaay out of position in the outfield. So keep him at third as long as Correa is on the team.
  22. It’s now obvious that the Pohlads are focused on making money, not winning baseball games. Someone forgot to tell them you have to spend money to make money, so I’m not expecting any move to claim a starter if they are released.
  23. A scrap heap addition instead of developing a young starter? This screams of desperation that won’t spend money. No thanks!
  24. I’m not that confident that Prielipp is that far along in his recovery that we can say he is on the doorstep. Let’s wait until he has a healthy season and some success. But I hope you are right.
  25. Comparing Festa to Liriano at the beginning stage of their careers is silly. Festa might turn out to be a solid starter, but Liriano was a phenom from the beginning. Only injuries prevented him from continued greatness. Festa is nowhere close to that yet, but let’s hope he gets there.
