  1. Well, No! There is no reason to guarantee this rally killer to have the most guaranteed at bats in a game. End of this silly notion.
  2. I thought the Twins got a lot in return for Polanco. Obviously the Twins came out on top in this trade, despite continuing their track record of acquiring injured pitchers. How Bowen and Gonzalez develop will determine how this trade turns out. And maybe Topa helps next year. Dumping Polanco’s salary was the reason for the trade, and his production has been poor this year anyway.
  3. I do wonder about the light workload of these starters. While the organization wants to be careful and manage their innings, it seems like college and older pitchers should be able to consistently pitch five or six innings at minimum. McCloud is the only one who averaged as much as 5.67 innings per start. Many of these guys averaged four+ innings as starters. Hmmm?
  4. I suppose we should all be happy that the FO didn’t again get fleeced by trading good prospects for broken down or injured starters, as has been their history. See Paddock, DiSclafani and Mahle as examples.
  5. The only reason to make any trade for a package that included one or more of their top prospects, like Walker, Rodriquez, Mathews, or Lee is if the team had a realistic chance to win the World Series this year. Without a clear number one or two starter that seems unrealistic. I’m happy they didn’t give up top prospects, especially the potential five tool impact players Walker and Rodriquez, to maybe win one playoff series.
  6. Lopez, Ryan and Ober are all capable of pitching well in a playoff game. But none of them are a number one starter. That’s an issue that will continue to plague the team until they get at least a strong number two. It is disappointing that billionaire ownership, with a taxpayer financed ballpark, refuses to spend to make the team more competitive.
  7. The new Target Field was supposed to be a game changer for revenue and thus competitiveness. Now it’s back to the same old squeezing profits instead of trying to make a legitimate run.
  8. I strongly disagree on the notion of trading Jenkins or Rodriquez, both potential five tool impact players, for a short term starter. And probably not Lee, Mathews or Keaschall as well, though it wouldn’t surprise me if Keaschall was traded today since infield is a position of depth. Other prospects further down would be OK if it solidifies the rotation.
  9. I agree on the head scratching lineup on Sunday, keeping both Buxton and Lewis out. But to claim Baldelli doesn’t care about winning is silly. Fortunately some other players came through. As for any trades, they may try to add to the bullpen. But I doubt any trades for a solid starter will be made. Sadly the Pohlads reward the taxpayers for giving them a great new ballpark by going Calvin Griffith on them.
  10. I’m not a big fan of how Rocco handles his pitching staff. If Ober had a no hitter going I think even the analytics driven Rocco would have sent him out for the ninth. Giving Thielbar a low stress inning wasn’t a bad idea, given how much he has struggled.
  11. Kikuchi or Paxton would help. It just depends on who would have to be included in a trade. Not Rodriquez, Keaschall, Raya, Jenkins or Soto. Festa or Culpepper. Maybe Schobel since he has several ahead of him.
  12. It didn’t affect him last year after the beaning, so I think he has moved on. Je is just playing bad baseball.
  13. My criticism of Rocco is twofold: his over reliance on analytics, especially starting pitchers. And the lack of a running game. Show some confidence in the starters once in awhile to get through more than five innings, though it is a little better than previous years. I think that played a part in Sonny Gray’s decision to leave, his frustration with early hooks. As for the running game, steal a base occasionally, try hit and run, etc. It seems like they are always waiting for the perfect count before stealing. Stop being so predictable on the bases.
  14. Kiriloff for Detmers. I would do that, a no brainer. I have been a big kiriloff fan, but his injury history and lack of production has left him behind. A change of scenery should help him. Detmers would give them a lefty option and some starting depth. Maybe they can help him get back on track. Worth a try if they can convince the Angels to do it.
  15. Good for Stinky! I was hoping for some information on his pitching repertoire, fast ball MPH, etc.
  16. Another starter like Kikuchi makes sense if they want to move Paddock to the bullpen to reduce his innings after TJ surgery. That would strengthen the BP if Paddock throws upper 90s for an inning or two like he did last year. They can’t count on Festa at this point.
  17. Another journeyman reliever finally having a decent season is right in Falvey’s sweet spot for trade. Sarcastically, he would make the trade if the guy has a recent injury history, as has often been the case.
  18. Sarcastically, the FO has a track record of trading for injury prone pitchers. So Garcia would be their guy. With the lack of front of the rotation starting pitchers in the Twin minor leagues, I wouldn’t trade Lewis or Culpepper for a short term rental. The Twins still don’t have a legit number one starter, like a Verlander type. And they aren’t going to pay a top free agent starter $30+million a year over five years. So they have to rely on starter depth.
  19. Some information on their repertoire would be nice. What is the speed of their fastball and how do their other pitches rate. You mention Zebby threw a pitch at 98.6, so we know he is more than a control pitcher despite the ridiculous strikeout to walk ratio. What else does he throw?
  20. I never bought into the notion that the 2023 Twins Earl Weaver approach was a good idea, despite some who defended this with analytical nonsense. It was certainly hard to watch player after player flailing away with unproductive at bats. I find it hard to believe that professional hitters can’t modify their approach depending on the count. It seems like they would have practiced this during batting practice all the way through the minors, such as taking the ball the other way or focusing on contact, not just power, with a RISP and less than two outs. Glad they seem to be evolving. Now maybe Rocco can add an occasional hit and run and a stolen base here and there.
  21. The Twins will not dump the underperforming Vasquez and Farmer because of their contracts, unless they can find a trade partner. But Vasquez can’t be traded because of he makes waaay too much money and his lack of production. But Farmer might have some trade value as an injury fill in. Who are you willing to trade to get Luzardo or Crochet? Hopefully not Lee, Rodriquez, Raya or Jenkins.
