  1. I would LOVE it if the Twins added more speed and defense. But yeah, we might be waiting a long time for that to happen.
  2. I've got a few good reading picks too. Been doing a LOT of reading this off-season!
  3. I'm not sure the majority of posters here are "against" how Cleveland has built their teams in recent years. Personally, I think Cleveland has done a great job remaining competitive while maximizing their draft picks and making some astute trades. I wish the Twins WOULD try to be more like Cleveland.
  4. That's pretty much the way I feel too. I think it would be foolish to trade him away just because his contract is relatively high, and we aren't sure how durable he will be next season. I think there is still some upside with Paddack and I also think his main value is as a starter. But that said, if they can get a quality MLB-ready player in return, or a decent prospect, I wouldn't be too shook up about a trade.
  5. Thanks for noticing that one, I didn't see it. Hajjar hasn't stuck with any team very long after we traded him to the Reds.
  6. I like this signing a lot. A no-risk minor league deal for a guy who could end up being a big contributor to the team this coming season. He had that one great season in Atlanta before the injury, so here is hoping we can get something even remotely resembling that performance. And don't stop here. I hope the Twins are looking for more potentially valuable players coming back from injuries.
  7. Hmm ... an intriguing idea. Profar had a very good season in 2024, with an especially torrid first half. But would he be worth that much money at that age? And would the Twins be able to afford a contract like that one?
  8. That caught my eye too. No, it's unlikely we will ever have "enough" pitching.
  9. Still hard to believe that the Twins someone plucked Shane Mack from that Rule 5 draft. That has to be one of their greatest picks ever. But it's not exactly like he was an obscure prospect even at that time. But hey, the Padres loss was our gain. Maybe we can found another gem in this year's Rule 5 draft, although I realize it's highly unlikely.
  10. Yeah, I'm also VERY skeptical about any trades like that. I can't see the A's giving up any of those good young players at this stage. And if they do, you said it; it would be a huge overpay on the Twins part.
  11. I'll join the chorus: no way we trade either one of those pitchers. I mean, are the Twins still hoping to contend next season, or have we suddenly slipped into a rebuilding mode? If we seriously want to get into the playoffs again, we need both Ryan AND Ober all season, and healthy all season.
  12. Golden At Bat? Horrible idea, and a horribly named idea.
  13. Ha! That word stumped me too. Is that really a word .... or another Mandfredism?
  14. You took the words right out of my mouth! If the Twins end up calling up all of those players and they all have enough appearances to qualify for ROY, that indicates that something went very wrong for the Twins plans in 2025.
  15. Like you said, Bell puts up pretty consistent power numbers and is fairly durable. His defensive skills, or lack thereof, are a concern, but if we can sign him for a reasonable amount I wouldn't mind it. I'm just not sure if Miranda is the answer at 1B, so a free agent signing might be the best way to go this season. And hey, I wouldn't mind having an ageing Santana back again.
  16. Seriously, that may not be such an unlikely outcome for Max.
  17. Chafifin is name that seems to be mentioned, or on the Twjns' radar almost every off-season. He has put up consistently good numbers over the past few years, and I'm not concerned about his age so much.
  18. Because that is what they do every year! The front office seems to love the play the waiting game (hoping for bargains?) and then pick up scraps just before the season starts.
  19. I think "opportunity" was the appropriate word. Happy that Rooker has found a home and is thriving in Oakland (or, ugh, wherever they are playing next season), but I don't think the Twins can regret that trade too much. Looking back he was just one of several similar players the Twins had and he was expendable. Too many cooks in the kitchen and not enough plates. Not only the Twins, but the Padres and even the Royals soon let him walk. Baseball is such an unpredictable game/science/dartboard. I can think of MANY other players that appeared to be ready for the opportunity, but were either pegged as platoon players or never given a chance at a starting role. It's cool that Rooker seized the chance and has prospered.
  20. Another fun trip back through memory lane. Thanks for the article! As a young kid I loved watching Tovar play, but I never knew this: He received MVP votes five-straight seasons from 1967 to 1971. Pretty impressive!
  21. Our three top starters are very good, better than average for sure. That said, I don't think that any one of those three pitchers truly qualifies as the "elite" type that will be penciled in for Cy Young award consideration (sorry, Pablo!) and will cause opposing teams to lose a night's sleep . Yes, the rotation is good, but I still don't think we have a true shut-down ace like we did when Santana was here, or even Liriano in his prime. But hey, Lopez and Ober seem like they COULD turn a corner and become that sort of ace, but I'm still waiting.
  22. I'm surprised too. Chargois DID put up good numbers this past season, at least to my old school eyes.
