thelanges5 Verified Member Posted January 28 Posted January 28 Plouffe has long been one of my favorite Twins and I like listening to him on his jomboy shows. I heard him say last week that he has been working with Matt Wallner. Here is an article from Puckett’s pond, saying the same thing. Love to see it! https://puckettspond.com/trevor-plouffe-predicts-breakout-season-for-twins-slugger-he-s-been-working-with-01kftx91867d
jorgenswest Verified Member Posted January 28 Posted January 28 Sounds encouraging. I know it is unrealistic to hope it is work at 1B as well as the bat. They should have tried it in the minors if he had the skills necessary. Unlike Larnach there were good reasons he didn’t play 1B coming up. He played CF more in college than RF. His arm works in RF. They weren’t going to take someone they need in the outfield and play him at 1B. Larnach only saw corner outfield in college. SF Twins Fan 1
tony&rodney Verified Member Posted January 28 Posted January 28 Maybe Plouffe teaches him something useful, can't hurt. Stick Wallner at DH and never let him play in the outfield again. The return of Nelson Cruz? I'm hoping he hits. In the meantime keep that offer to Pittsburgh open for Jared Jones.

Not many truly successful managers or coaches were also baseball stars. Sometimes it’s easier to recognize flaws in others than see it in yourself. When I play tennis, I can see all kinds of things in other players, but can’t seem to always self-diagnose. nicksaviking, SF Twins Fan and ashbury 3

I think Plouffe does not want a full time job with a MLB team at this point.

Plouffe felt he could have done it with Royce Lewis' throwing issues as well. He was openly critical of the Twins' organization, coaches and management in regard to how they handled Lewis and how they were failing to help him address his throwing accuracy issues. We don't know what work Plouffe is doing with Wallner. Is Plouffe expecting Wallner to turn into a gold glove right fielder or does Plouffe think he can identify how Wallner can be a better hitter? If Plouffe's help does show substantial, tangible improvement, it's another black mark on Falvey.
