And that's kinda why I'm still optimistic. When JJ is healthy and gets some reps, the offense should be able to convert a few more TDs. We just have to wait but the pieces are here.

Jj has shown nothing so far. It's going to be weeks before he's good, if ever.

If they give Wentz a chance to redeem himself and they win, it will be even harder to put McCarthy in.

But yeah, they might do that.

Inclined to agree here. We do have to know for sure with him though. I just expect nothing, really. The QB position will keep the Vikings out of the playoffs, whether it’s wentz or JJ

Eh I don’t know, I think everyone can see the shortcomings with wentz’s game. They’ve been on display in almost all his games.

He could still be better than JJ though, which would be a very bad scenario for all involved.

I just disagree with you. But it's a situation that will answer itself so it's not really worth debating. Also, it's very late in Paris, Kentucky so I'm gonna to sleep.

Wentz was really bad. But outside of those two late sacks, he was pretty decisive and got rid of the ball despite pressure. Poor throws and poor decisions, but decisive.

Im really concerned JJ can’t make reads anywhere close to fast enough for this league and won’t get past his first option. So it could be poor throws, poor decisions and at a snails pace.

Still, the Vikings made this decision, they have to try.

Good post.

I can see a situation where we start JJ soon but end up seeing wentz again

Oh, I agree. They need to play him. I'm suggesting it won't be pretty for some time. I'd never pick a QB who didn't have the offense built around him, so I'm doubtful.

Also, I hate TV putting Dallas on still. Sigh.

They should never play Wentz again.

I don’t know, still a lot of season left. If he’s no better than he was in his first two games, some people might be losing their jobs or coaching for their jobs. Don’t know if the coach or GM would let him tank for the final 11 games without doing something. Easy for us fans, we aren’t going anywhere and can’t get fired (unfortunately)

They aren't winning with Wentz. Nothing. No reason to ever see him again. It's not tanking, it's realism.

I agree. But 11 games is a long time and nobody likes losing, especially not NFL coaches who have short lifespans. In the very SSS we’ve seen, as bad as wentz is, he probably gives a better chance of winning than McCarthy. Because he can move the ball in a way that McCarthy wasn’t.

But then again, starting him and taking him back out reeks of admitting you picked the wrong guy to begin with. And I doubt anyone is itching to do that.

We’re what, 2 weeks or less away from the trade deadline? As things stand today I would be shopping these guys:

Addison for a 1st or early 2nd round pick

Hockenson as a salary dump - he’s just not the same since his catastrophic knee injury

Allen or Hargrave

Aaron Jones

Harry the Hitman only if he wants to win a ring somewhere else

Agreed.

Pretty bleak.

That’s unfortunate.

Dart with two TDs for the giants in the first half. Saved his HC’s job replacing Wilson.

What’s the quarterback situation looking like coming out of college for the next draft?

Bad. Indiana might have the top pick. Indiana.

To make sure I'm clear on my agree earlier, in dealing Addison for sure if I get a first. Likely if I get an early second plus a late pick or backup RB.

As good as Daniel jones and Darnold are doing, I don’t blame the Vikings for how they handled those two guys last year. Nobody saw this coming from jones. Nobody. Darnold…you’re still waiting for the inevitable big game melt down.

Yeah it just sucks we chose the wrong solution out of all the options available to us last offseason. And it's magnified 1000x because QB is the most important position in sports.

Yeah. If Darnold wasn’t just SO BAD in those two games, maybe they make a different choice

I don't mind the Darnold decision one bit.  Would've been nice to keep Daniel Jones around though.

I'll eat my hat if Darnold ever wins a Super Bowl.  The path forward was to stop with retreads whose ceiling is capped.

(Though I stand by that Baker Mayfield was a guy to target)

Another trade candidate.....might get a late pick for him.

For sure. At this point nobody thinks Wentz is a savior. I'd be more concerned with internally the coaches and players knowing JJ's shortcomings and them being significant.

If McCarthy doesn't get rid of the ball faster than he did the first two weeks, he's not going to stay healthy for the entirety of the last 11 games.

I noticed never noticing him and I noticed he didn't have any stats. I didn't know he got zero defensive snaps though.

He was a great story. But unless he can hold up as an edge rusher, and he almost certainly can't, he's just such a liability. Other QBs were literally audibling from runs to passes just to go after him.

Not to mention keeping Darnold would've meant most of the other offseason FAs wouldn't have happened.  It's been a mostly underwhelming performance overall from that group, but try to imagine what this o-line would've looked like without Will Fries and with Walter Rouse (or whomever after all the injury juggling) in his place.  I feel pretty confident in saying the Darnold we've seen in Seattle would've been different than the Darnold that would've been playing behind an even more depleted version of this o-line.  There's a decent chance the narrative would've been the Vikings foolishly ignoring what happens to Darnold when the line breaks down in front of him like it did at the end of last season
