According to our broadcasters Buxton believes he can score from second on a hit therefore he doesn't need to steal third.

Counting on his teammates to get a hit is where this plan falls apart. Not even Buxton is fast enough to score from second on an infield ground ball.

When you absolutely need a run to tie the game in extras the fastest man in baseball needs to get to third, in position to score on a wild pitch, passed ball, or grounder.

Concur. 100%

But I don't blame Rocco for Buxton's refusal to steal 3rd.

Trust me on this: I find plenty to blame Rocco for.

Buxton has to steal third base.

I believe Buxton has said he has never stolen 3B. That is fine in innings 1-9, but if he's the "Manfred Man" or "Ghost Runner" on 2B, I agree, he needs to steal 3B for the simple reason that he's scores on just about any ball in play.

Only Baldelli would have Martin, who's been one of our best hitters, try and throw down a bunt for a squeeze play. Oh and BTW it only works if you catch the other team off guard. So after the first failure any decent manager would have him hit. We would have had at least two shots at brining Roden in off two of our best hitters in Martin and Buck.

LOL, Austin Martin has been one of our best hitters? I'm rooting for the guy, but he's got an OPS of .686 since returning to the Twins after his injury. He's got a career OPS+ of 89, and his OPS+ in 2025 is 86.

There are things to criticize Baldelli over, and it's more than fair to be saying it's time for a different manager after 7 years and missing the playoffs in 4 of the past 5...but making stuff up because you hate the manager really needs to stop around here.

Agreed, but unless they are promoting Fedko, you keep running him out there to make sure if he's in AAA or the majors to start next year.

Great trade!

definitely puts more pressure on Rojas to be good. Roden has had a few moments, but mostly looks like the same guy he was in Toronto: not capable of hitting MLB pitching right now. This would be less of a concern if he was 22 instead of 25. But it is his first time in MLB, so you never know. Sometimes guys need to fail before making the adjustments that will bring them longer-term success. Or he might be a Quad-A guy. I agree it makes sense to keep running him out until the end of the season; I doubt we learn anything by sending him to Saint Paul.

Can we stop with the Sonny Gray nonsense? He left because St. L offered him a lot more money and it put him closer to his home. Berrios wouldn't sign an extension because he wanted more money/years than the Twins were willing to pay, not because he "hated" Rocco. Find me ONE pitcher who left because he didn't like the manager, with actual proof, not just things you've inferred because YOU don't like the manager.

I'm pretty sure Sonny Gray has never wanted to come out of a game in his entire life, even if he'd given up 9 runs and couldn't throw a strike. So either he's hated every manager he's ever played for, or this is all just nonsense. BTW, his last season in MN, where he was the runner up for the AL Cy Young, Gray averaged 5.75 innings per start. In St. Louis the next season it was 5.92. This season it's 5.62. Does he hate Marmol now too?

Not to mention Gray's ERA has been a full run higher with the Cardinals (3.94) than with the Twins (2.90).  Doesn't look like those deeper starts have paid off too well for the Cardinals

For all the complaints about Rocco, this really isn't a valid one

Plus Rocco and the Twins did him so much disservice that he got a huge payday......

This idea that they ruined him or used him wrong is urban myth, or just out and out lying.....

Peter, you do not disappoint. If a picture is worth a thousand words you have expressed a mouthful and a half. So, in brief with regards to your post, 👍.

Yes bucks run would have only tied but you gotta tie to keep playing. When your fastest player won't do what is necessary to try and win that's selfish. It bordered on no Brainer that he had to run. But oh well..just another loss in a lost season. Someone here doesn't agree with any of this based on a thumbs down...but I respect all opinions. We are all just fans! We can see things from many sides.

Or it's the tone of many posts getting thumbs down. When if we agree with the concepts.
