Not sure why Julien went into home head first, or whatever you call that slide.  He made it easier to be tagged on the arm.  How about a normal slide?

This is the actual answer.  Commit and go.  Part of that learning about baserunning thing we been talking about.

Just an observation but Witt Jr. was not the Witt of last year, until the Royals faced the Twins; just pondering.

??

You mean the first series of the season?

He wasn't Bobby Witt until the first series of the season?

After which his OPS was 1.888?

Just an observation.

When your offense is prone to going into a shell, really important to cash-in when you have a guy on 3B with less than two outs.

I'm not specifically thinking about getting thrown out at home this game, but Julien's playing in general reminds me of Gilberto Celestino from a baseball instinct and IQ perspective.   They just don't have it.  I wonder if it's an innate thing or what?

I thought Celestino was going to be a pretty good player. He really fizzled out quickly. I tend to think feel for the game and high baseball IQ are things you either have or don't...and the basepaths are one of the places where it will be most noticeable.

I have always believed that some people instinctively understand how to play baseball, and some don't.

They anticipate, react, and act properly and aggressively without needing to be told.

Paul Molitor. Torii Hunter.

Others,  not so much.

Quasi-Related to today (If not, I can pose this in the Other Baseball forum), but I heard a rumor that the Royals might be leaving Kaufmann

Royals were hoping to get a tax to pay for a new stadium but the voters rejected the plan:
