I hope they win today as well, because 17 in a row is getting so far into statistical anomaly territory that they're bound to win one soon.

Agree, except I don't think it needs rewritten. It's a judgement call, always will be, and we just need better judgement by the umpire.

There was interference, just not interference with an actual play.

"Dead ball. Play on."

Was thinking about how I would not call that in a game and I think that explains it. I was rereading the rule before I posted and while it was called rulebook correct it felt 100% like a no call.  Truly,  he may just have been throwing it vack to the pitcher and thats what I'll be telling a coach in that case.  In 14u you have to squash that crap early sometimes.

It looked like Kep’s momentum after the swing took him out of the box and out over the plate…., what if he had stayed in the box and got hit?

It depends. Batters box isn't protection as the rule is stepping out etc etc AND any other movement that hinders a catchers play. Pure judgement call.  I try to give the batter benefit of the doubt as sometimes they don't even know a snap throw went behind them to third.  If they step in the way without knowing, it's still interference.  If they don't really move and don't seem to react to the catcher I won't call it.

If a catcher just threw it in his ribs on purpose without an interference move I'm not sure what I would call.  I'll have to think about it.  I can't reward that catcher but I'll catch hell from a coach either way.

Late to the party on this one. But nice to see a lead. Pablo battled. Mets' line up is tough. Only 3 hits is impressive. Now can the 'pen hold the lead?

Too soon for Trevor? ..but Duran ain't pitched for a week.

Since the ball hit Kepler in the helmet, I hope its not concussion related.   On the interference does it matter how close Lee was second, i.e. if he were standing on second would interference still be called?

Unfortunately, how close a runner is to the bag has nothing to do with an interference call since you can't assume anything.  It's strictly interference on a fielder attempting to make a play.  I've had to call a couple of those and as anyone with common sense, you know they have no shot of getting the runner but you also can't ignore the fact contact happened.  Had Kepler still been in the box, then he'd have been fine as long as he wasn't actively trying to mess with the catcher's attempt.  Tough break.

Thought Dobber was the way to go last night. The 2-0 lead felt more like 22-0. Would like to have Alcala, Jax and Duran to close this one out. But, Dobber might get his shot.

Bottom of Mets order, why not..

I don't know about you but interference/obstruction plays are the absolute worst because no matter which way you go with it, someone's going to be upset and they won't understand why.

That extra jab step that Lewis does prior to the pitch, seems like pitchers would easily be able to **** with him if they vary their timing to the plate. Seems out front a lot lately and wants to pull everything.

Yup, and they always catch you slightly off guard.  Like that play, wtf just happened? Oh, ok. I'm pretty sure that's what I saw.  Lord help you if you happened to blink at the wrong time.

I always tell people that the hardest part of youth ball is trying to anticipate what a 13 yo boy is going to do.  Interference is hard for the same reason.
