1985Fan Verified Member Posted July 29, 2024 Posted July 29, 2024 Should look at the internal options very closely this year. Is Matthews an option to make a couple of starts or be the bulk guy in a BP game? Festa looked good his last time on the mound. Maybe between Festa, Matthews, Varland, and Dobnak they can give SWR a breather and fill in for Paddack the next two months. If they get to the postseason, does the FO think that López, Ryan, Ober, and SWR are good enough? BP lefty is a problem. Maybe the FO thinks Funderburk coming back is as good as a trade or that Thielbar is going to gain control and be a shut-down guy again. id like to see Blake Snell and Tanner Scott but I realize that the prospect price would be very painfull. Based on last two years deadline moves, it think it’s better that this FO sits it out. They’ll do less damage on the sidelines!

I still think Andrew Morris might be our best choice five earned runs in last nine starts.
Aerodeliria Verified Member Posted July 30, 2024 Posted July 30, 2024 The broader problem is that the Twins tend to get fleeced by making last second deals on players who have been injured or who are actually injured. The last remarkable acquisition I can remember is Shannon Stewart...and even he was injured but it proved not to be a disaster because his foot problem only created intermittent problems. Hence, the Twins approach teams who really want to unload a player who other teams have passed on. It's kind of a Catch-22 for them. They consider their past problems as well as the monies involved and that makes them hesitate to pull the trigger on a quality player, which leads them to the Island of Misfit Toys, which also makes them understandably hesitant, but they sometimes say to themselves, "Well, maybe this guy really is just a bit unlucky," and so they pull the trigger, which doesn't work out well and then puts them back in the same position at the next trade deadline... Western SD Fan Verified Member Posted July 30, 2024 Posted July 30, 2024 (edited) Kikuchi officially to the Astros. All prospect rankings are preseason per MLB Hou - Kikuchi Tor - Jake Bloss: RHP #9 in Astros, on MLB roster Joey Loperfido: OF, not top 30, on mlb roster Will Wagner: INF, #13, in AAA Toronto had stated they want mlb ready or very close. Given that the Twins have the 15th ranked farm system per mlb and the Astros the 27th. Would this trade have worked? Twins give up Canterino, Severino, and maybe a PTBNL? I might be way off and will defer to our minor league experts on whether this is too much. Edited July 30, 2024 by Western SD Fan Clean up misspellings

Quite a bit to part with for a Kikuchi rental IMHO. Cris E 1

I just don't like Kikuchi much so I wouldn't give up much for him. I don't think he's going to be better than Lopez, Ryan or even Ober so what I'd give up for the guy isn't much.
Doctor Wu Verified Member Posted July 30, 2024 Posted July 30, 2024 Once again, the Twins wait and wait ... hoping for a bargain or what? Meanwhile, most of the useful players, ones that might actually make a difference in a playoff run, have been snapped up by other teams. I'm sure the Twins will do something in the next day or two. but probably only a bullpen arm. Hey, I don't want to give up any of our prized prospects either, but if they are serious about contending this season, they need to make some sort of move that might truly make the team better. Otherwise, it will be another "wait until next year" once again. Aerodeliria 1

Houston can use any pitcher they can get, though. Cris E 1
LambchoP Verified Member Posted July 30, 2024 Posted July 30, 2024 I'm guessing we do nothing at all by the deadline. They'll say we have all these reinforcements on the way in Correa, Farmer, Topa, Paddack and Varland. I just think without some serious pitching upgrades, me may just miss the playoffs altogether, which would make us lose out on more money from the playoffs bonuses.... Mike Sixel 1
