One of my best friends from H.S, is a big time Stl Cards fan, and has been for the over 50 years I've known him. I just talked to him and he's going out of his mind right now wondering wtf Mozeliak is doing down there.

Dallas Keuchel is still available!

Getting ahold of guys who can take the ball every 5 days. Pitching roster has been decimated.

They should've kept Montgomery and Flaherty. Especially Monty. Mozy is a terrible GM. The staff is decimated because of his decisions. Sure you can trot out Lynn and Gibson every time it's their turn, because they're pretty durable, but that's it. Right now, they have Mikolas, Matz, Lynn, and Gibson as their starters. That's not going to scare anybody. They don't really have anyone at AAA either. Liberatore hasn't shown that he's ready to be in the rotation. They could be in for another rough season.

So that means someone like Maeda has gotta be around $15 million?

I suppose it depends on what a team values. Gibson will absolutely eat innings - 192 in 2023, 168 the year before., and 182 the year before that. He's a pretty dependable back of the rotation guy, even at 36 years of age. Gibson's probably more dependable but Maeda has more upside.

I’ve never really bought into the “eat innings” concept. I don’t really care if a guy can go out and pitch 6 innings to a 5.5 era. That generally means you lose. I want no part of pitchers with that profile.

That's exaggerating Gibson's profile. Other than his rookie season, he hasn't ever had a 5.5 ERA. Given that he was 15-9 last year, it's also not the case that 'generally' the Orioles lost when he started.

I was speaking generally. You’ll notice if you read carefully I didn’t mention Gibsons name. Reading comprehension is a good thing.

To say nothing of Gallen and Alcantara...

The article is about Gibson, the comment you were replying to was about him eating innings. Parse it any way you want, I comprehend your latest as 'walking it back.'

Solid #5/6 starting pitchers are in demand. What does this do for Giolito?

Interesting point. I suppose that really depends on Giolito. If he's looking for a one-year deal, he might get close to $20m. If he wants a multi-year deal... *shrugs*

Clearly the cardinals are not trying to win the NL central next year.

It is an interesting fanbase who will attend games, even with this new $113MM total payroll. Will be nearly sold-out every game.

Short-sighted IMO but maybe their minor league system is jelling. I don't know as I don't follow up on the NL.

Giolito seemed like a possible signing in early November. Now? Not so much ..... I'm thinking what you said.

Dang. More than 40 thousand fans per game in St. Louis every game, all year long would lose their  ... beep if this is their reality.

Not that I disagree.

Pitchers who threw the most IPs last season with an ERA+ below 95:
1. Miles Mikolas
2. Kyle Gibson
3. Lucas Giolito
4. Lance Lynn
