His release seemed to be brewing almost from the beginning of the season.  I can't see him on another team unless he is willing to do a AAA stint.  Maybe the A's or Rockies would want him?  He just hasn't been very good for the last couple of years now and his age has him far past his prime.  Might time for him to retire.

Not surprising.  The Yankees are all but out of the race, he's been awful this year and it was just a team option for next year.  They still have to eat the $8M on the option for next year.

He's done as far as I can tell or care.

Though Toronto finds themselves in a pretty big bind with their star infielders. Chapman's out, Bichette is probably out and Biggio didn't turn out to be any good. Maybe the Jays pick him up dreaming of his glory days with them.

And if they do, it'll show they're as desperate as the move would indicate and ready for their season to fall apart.

That would be desperation. Unless they think Chapman is gone for the season, there's no reason to bring in a washed up PITA like Donaldson in, and even then...I wouldn't do it. He can't stay on the field, he can't hit, he can't run and he's going to do or say something that will cause a problem. You can be a jerk when you produce (sometimes) but you can't when you're at the end of the line and your body can't cash the checks your mouth is writing.

That trade worked out fine for the Twins: IKF and JD were decent last season, but not that much better than Urshela and Sanchez at the end of the day (and neither has been good this year at all), Rortvedt has been ruined by injury (sadly), and the Twins got out from under Donaldson's contract. Worth it.

Of course, you could also ask why the Twins front office signed Donaldson in the first place.

Absolutely right. It was definitely a mistake to sign him.
