Brock Beauchamp Site Manager Posted July 23, 2023 Posted July 23, 2023 This has been an interesting question to pose over the past month as the Pittsburgh Pirates - who started the season strong but then stumbled badly - approached the trade deadline: what are they going to do with veteran outfielder and feel-good story Andrew McCutchen? It was reported that during last offseason, McCutchen turned down an equal offer from the Twins and a superior offer from the New York Mets to return to PIttsburgh, the city he became a star player an won an MVP award. The 36-year-old is having a revival season with the Pirates, posting a 117 OPS+ and fills the exact need the Twins have on the roster right now: a capable corner player who hits right-handed and is strongest against left-handed pitching. But it appears McCutchen may not be available at all. View full rumor

Trov Verified Member Posted July 24, 2023 Posted July 24, 2023 I follow the Pirates, because my wife is a huge fan growing up in western PA. Cutch never wanted to be traded from Pittsburgh the first time. Every fan loved when he returned, he was their Puckett of that generation of fans. The fans loved him, he loved the city and the fans. Trading him away a second time would be like a big middle finger to him and the fan base, even if they are in last place. The fans hated he got traded the first time too, even if they got some current players. If they trade Cutch, unless he asks for it, the team will lose any little bit of respect the fans have for the team, or the players have for the team.

nicksaviking Community Moderator Posted July 24, 2023 Posted July 24, 2023 He's only started 7 games in the OF this year, and in the off season the Twins sure seemed intent on fielding a decent defensive outfield group. If the Twins were to finally put Buxton on the IL, I think they could use that DH spot better by rotating guys through it rather than locking it up once again.
