Totally get it. But that mentality also lead to Matt Harvey demanding to stay in game 5 against the Royals only to hurt the team, and lose the game. It's a fine line. I just really hope we're not seeing the end of Buxton in CF forever. He's way too talented for this to be the career he has.

You said it, man.

Thank you for this thread, , Around here it takes Guts to Criticize alot of the moves ,  Does everyone forget Rocco looking like a Ambulance driver getting out to 1st base, I think Byron Himself told Rocco he wanted to stay in, Kuddos to Buck !!  if so ? he had zero issues going 1st to 3rd , looked fine ? if something on that 1st to 3rd run that Buck felt and was concerned IDK - People can think what they wish,  My take is Rocco and the medical guy maybe decided to remove Buck Again idk  but WOULDNT it be nice to know ,  Sunflower,  -----Watch out i got tagged for calling Byron Brittlebuck, !!!!  ,

"looking like an Ambulance driver" lol... it certainly would be nice to know. I understand the reasons why medical evaluations and decisions are kept a little hush hush, but it sure would help me point the finger.

As long as we can  have a quality CF like Taylor, I'm ok with Buck being the DH... But, if we start to have a glaring weakness out there, then I think its time to reconsider.  I think we got a great deal with the contract we gave him as a CF, but as a DH its not as good.  Do they think he'll be the DH for the next 6 years?  That doesn't sound as appealing.  No doubt he is injury prone, but so was Molitor early in his career.  Hope he can get in the field again at least a few days each week to spread out the wear and tear on everyone - not just him.

It is kind of like the Mauer nightmare.  He was probably the most valuable catcher EVER!  Seems like once they moved him to 1st he was a shadow of what he was or what we were used seeing.  If all Buxton can do is DH for the rest of his career, it will be hard for the team to win and can't imagine what he is going through from being what was to what he currently is.

Just a bit of language policing; ‘kid gloves’ does not mean gloves worn by a human child, but rather gloves made from the skin of baby goat, known for their softness and suppleness.

Where the idiom comes from is lost in a bottle of whiskey somewhere, I’m sure.

A few things: 1.) Thank you officer, for your service and dedication to this community. 2). An absolute gem as far as explaining what kid gloves meant, who knew? You did. 3.) How did you know that?

Given he hasn't played there....I think they have confirmed that.

They can say whatever they want, many "fans" won't believe them (see all over this board) anyway.

Actions speak louder than words, and their actions make it clear what they think of him in the OF right now.

Yet they've continued to be noncommittal about Buxton as the full time DH or spending any amount of time in CF. Actions do, hence my belief we won't see him in CF at any point, but if that decision has been reached Idk why you'd carry on with the pretense he'll be anything other than a DH this year.

Idk if voicing displeasure is grounds for having your fan card revoked, YMMV on that.

I got no issues with displeasure of fans. Other issues? Sure

So you're upset that Rocco went and checked on his player who just wore a 97 MPH fastball and wasn't able to immediately just jog to first? Like, I don't know, literally every manager in baseball does? It doesn't take any guts at all to criticize moves around here. Go look at the nightly game threads, or the game recaps the next day. There's criticisms everywhere. But you'll definitely have people calling out criticisms that aren't really based on anything.

The team announced, and Byron confirmed, that he'd be getting imaging done this morning. What more do you need to know? They generally don't do imaging for giggles. Buxton said, “I’d advise you not to get hit in the ribs, I’ll tell you that.” when reporters asked how bad his pain was. Maybe instead of throwing around accusations you should just see what info is actually out there and not assume the team is incompetent. There's even info about Royce Lewis popping into the trainer's room before his homerun to check on Buck, and Buck missing the HR because he was still getting fixed up.

I've said this before, but this thread prompts me to say it again.

I think everyone wants Buck to play CF in every game for the rest of his career if that is feasible. And when I say everyone I mean every fan, Falvine, the Pohlad family, every Twins employee including players, coaches, medical staff, Rocco Baldelli, and especially Byron Buxton. Everyone.

But if that's not feasible, then I think everyone--EVERYONE--wants him to play somewhere as often as is feasible. Determining what is feasible involves evaluations and reports from a lot of people, especially medical staff, with the decisions about how he is used being made primarily by the manager. I'm sure it's a complicated matter involving a lot of information that we, the fans, are not privy to, which is proper. So we have to rely on those who are in the know to do the best they can, and I feel certain that those who are in the know ARE doing the best they can.

The other thing to keep in mind is that the primary goal of the regular season is to qualify for the postseason. If the primary goal is achieved then the secondary goal of the regular season is to be positioned as well as possible for the postseason, both in terms of which team(s) we would be playing and in terms of having players prepared to perform. So, what I will guess is that Buck will continue to DH exclusively for at least another month or two and that the approach will be on the side of caution. If our chances of qualifying for the postseason improve as the season progresses the approach will change. I hope and expect that Buck would be in CF for most postseason games, which means during August and September playing him in CF will be phased in.

As for me, in the meantime I will not waste energy and emotion ranting about Buxton or Baldelli or anyone else, and I will hope for the best.
