I get why it happened and it's the absolute right move but subbing Jeffers for Vazquez as a pinch-runner is objectively hilarious.

Fresh legs I guess.

More accurately, you need a dose of both. Contact without power leads to the worst OPS in baseball and one of the lowest runs scored in baseball. Teams need power in today's game and with power comes strikeouts.

Cleveland is struggling without any power. Still I do believe the Twins need more of what we saw in Castro's at bat, which is contact when called for. Willi took a very measured short cut to loft the ball to the middle of the field. Also, full long crazy swings with two strikes is a pretty low percentage play. I always felt that I could get a whiff or weak out when I got a batter swinging too hard at my crappy two strike pitches. We see it too often with several Twins this year.

The thing is that the team wasn't built to be so strikeout-heavy. Miranda isn't a K fiend under good circumstances, neither is Correa. Those are just two examples of players that have wildly underperformed to date. There are others.

And there are guys like Kirilloff who are not strikeout-heavy, either. This roster has shifted into whiff-heavy, it wasn't really built that way.

Strike 2 and 3 were balls.

Baseball Savant shows a very good game called by the HP ump, only a couple missed calls - borderline strikes called balls. Do not use MLB Gameday to see how an ump is doing, Baseball Savant is way better, despite what others may say.

Jeffers is quite a bit faster.

Vázquez is one of the very slowest runners in baseball. Jeffers is better by over a foot per second, still below average.

The funny part is that it is is true while Jeffers is still like the 2nd or 3rd slowest on the team

Catcher running for catcher, saves a bench player for later if needed.

I don't really think Carlos Correa, one of the best players in baseball over the past eight years, needs motivation. He's just struggling, let's not make this a work ethic issue.

i trust Correa to figure it out, alot more than either Buxton and to some extent Kepler and Gallo

It was actually the only bench move left. It's a good thing Castro hit it in the air though because Jeffers probably isn't scoring on a ground ball anywhere in the infield.

I view those players very differently.

Correa will figure it out unless he's injured or old.

Buxton will figure it out unless he's injured.

Gallo is a volatile player but is still pretty good.

Kepler will never figure it out.
