Look at that. Do you think that is a coincidence? I think not. The defense rests, your honor.

There is 2 things you aren't accounting for,  1 is a more compact swing,  2 is less shift.   He should have an additional hit to his total as well for what was counted as an error in the Kansas City game.   I don't anticipate to hit at this level.  However, if he maintains a .250 batting average he will be a top 30 hitter in the MLB and that is valuable.

He's hit .250 once in his lifetime which was his only time over .223,  I'll take the under.  Under on the top 30 hitter as well.

He has hit .250 once in his lifetime,  the thing is can the Twins get his batting average closer to .250 than .190?  The higher it goes the more valuable he becomes.   He has had an over .800 OPS 4 times.  Last year the threshold for a top 30 hitter was right around .800 OPS.   The goal is that Gallo would be higher than that.

Goals are cute.  Production matters.

Yep that's why they signed him. 3 years over 800 OPS, 1 year over 900. That's proven production. We'll see, he looks determined and comfortable here. I'm pleasantly surprised so far.

If you expected him to do what he's doing you shouldn't be surprised.

Ummm . . .  seems slightly backhanded there.  I think a few people thought that he had a change to get to 1.000 OPS and if he did that he would be well worth the $11 million we are paying him.  Yes he had had poor production the last 2 years so it was a bit of a gamble,  but it is looking like he is performing pretty well here in the early going.  We need a few more hits but overall a good OBP and good OPS.

Which hitter on our roster has been more productive than Gallo in this early season so far?  I think this answers your question.  Now he could go on a hitless streak and prove your point.

Would probably be willing to bet $11 Million that he doesn't end up with a 1.000 OPS.....

That's my whole point.  NOBOBY on this roster is producing.  I've said all spring that they did nothing to improve the offense.  They scored less than 700 runs last year and are pacing even less this year.

Really?  The top 5 hitters are Gallo / Jeffers / Vazquez / Buxton and Solano.  3 of the 5 we added and they worked with Jeffers to improve his offense and it’s working.  That kind of significant improvement from within is more valuable than a trade or free agent.  The two biggest problems have been Correa’s production and Polanco’s absence.  To blame it on what they didn’t do this off-season is a convenient way to support a conclusion you came up with before the season started.

Was it, never caught that.  Thanks squirrel.  He has become even more of the true 3 outcomes so far this season.9 hits and 6 of them homers.  The most promising stat so far is strike outs are down.

I think I read that info from maybe @stringer bell or @ashbury?

I went back and looked at box score and game logs and you are correct.    So gallo has always been known as a bad ball hitter capitalizing on mistakes. Tonight’s home run was a good pitch. Low at the knees with a bit of movement and he still crushed it.  We need to see more contact on these types of pitches.

He just has to hit over .800 to be worth the $11 million.   Now that he has gone nearly a month and has an 1120 OPS and a 208 OPS plus is pretty good.  FYI Arreaz at his incredible start is only at a a 202 OPS+.

I assume you mean an OPS over .800 rather than HITTING over .800 which would typically mean batting average.  If he merely hit over .800 he'd be worth $111 Million.  F YOUR I, I spent most of the off-season prior to the Arraez trade shouting from the rooftops on this and other sites calling for the trade and pointing out that he won a batting title last year with an OPS UNDER .800 and how difficult that was to do.  D.J. LeMahieu won a title with only 10 home runs and his OPS was over j1.000

Your post I was responding to was about OPS and everything in my post was about OPS yes I thinks it’s fairly obvious,  you also  know there just so many hitters with an .800 batting average LOL.  I was back on Gallo watch tonight hit another double.

He MIGHT miss out on breaking the team strikeout record--IF he misses enough games.

Let's just ignore the metrics that indicate he has been our best hitter and focus on strike outs.   Let's hold on to our preseason position about a player even when the facts are quite clear that we were wrong.  The guy has been a great addition to this team so far.  Let's get over the need to be right and be glad we have him.

At this rate he won’t even come close, he may not even lead the team in strikeouts.  He is currently striking out at 28.8%. It appears the change in the swing is helping contact rates.  I didn’t watch last night but it appears his hit went to left field.  If he can do that a little more frequently may get some cheap hits but also loosen up the modified shift even more.

Lets get over a 23 game sample size and remember what the 2300 at bat sample size looks like.

We're not paying $11 Million for cheap hits to left field.

I get that you don't appreciate Joey Gallo as a player and that you do appreciate spouting negativity, but don't put words in my mouth. Look back and READ my posts, I did not advocate for signing Gallo. I did not sign Gallo. I doubted whether he would bounce back. That is why I'm pleasantly surprised.

If Joey Gallo starts hitting singles, the league better beware. The homers will always be there and there is in the far reaches of the stands.

If you want to make the point that he won't sustain this level of production, we would all agree.  That does not mean we should not be pleased with what is actually happening.  Should we be happy with Correa's futility this year because he has been good over the course of 3900 PAs?  You seem to be a lot more concerned with past performance as opposed to what's actually happening.  Should Oakland fans be down on Rooker because he has not had success in the past or should they be pleased with the way he is performing?

Its pretty clear at this point you are just trolling.   Hits are hits, and yes if they are going to shift to right field to avoid hits,  I am thrilled with all the cheap hits,  including doubles he gets to left field,  to offset the hits he is losing hitting into the shift.  If he gets enough of them the shift will loosen up.
