No matter what happens, I have no problem with Corriea coming out after 7, and Burton coming in. We don't know why Corriea was taken out, and the problems are on Burton, not Gardy.

I'm only seeing this on a gamecast but is Correia coming out after seven innings with a pitch count of 87 a reactionary move to the heat Gardy took last time he went out for the 8th?

Because last time, I think it was nearly unanimous that most agreed Correia should have gone out for the 8th, he simply should have been pulled with runners on.

Gardy has been known to leave his starters in one too many innings.

Re: Correia

I have no problem sending him out to start the 8th, but you have to have guys warming up in the bullpen incase KC hits trouble. That was the issue in his start against the royals. Gardy didn't have anyone warming up

Glad we got out of that with the lead. I'll repeat: IMO there's no reason to jump on Gardy for putting Burton into the role he's there for. And I would have felt that way no matter the result. I would have been OK with Corriea coming out for the 8th, too, for that matter, as long as the pen was ready. Either move makes sense to me, and I also repeat: we don't know if Correia said he was done, or if Gardy/Anderson noticed something about his pitching prior to taking him out.

It's interesting that he used to take more heat for leaving the youngsters in too long. Now he seems to have a quicker hook, including tha veterans.

You may be right. Correia may have said something, Andy or Gardy might have picked something up in his delivery, but you can't argue with Correia sitting down the last eight batters he faced, without a ball getting out of the infield. By all appearances, Correia was on a roll.

One third of the way there.

Slow with the KC sunshine avatar, but here is the celebration one right on cue.
I am glad I didn't have to ask for the "celebration one", it's probably against the law or one of the commandments.
