Otto von Ballpark Old-Timey Member Posted November 8, 2021 Posted November 8, 2021 John Gant cleared waivers and elected free agency when the Twins attempted to outright him to the minor leagues, off the 40-man roster. (Gant had the right to elect free agency if outrighted, due to having 5+ years of MLB service time.) Gant had been projected by MLB Trade Rumors to earn $3.7 million in his final turn of arbitration this winter; apparently no team wanted to commit to that right now. He made $2.1 million in 2021. Would you like to see Gant back with the Twins at a reduced price? And if so, which role would you like to see him in, starting or relief?
Dman Verified Member Posted November 8, 2021 Posted November 8, 2021 I was surprised he passed through to be honest as there are some pretty poor pitching teams that could have used him. I guess as you said the price was not right until the CBA is settled I guess there will be more of these types of deals. Teams will still have a chance to grab him in FA so I bet things work out for him once the CBA is settled.
4twinsJA Verified Member Posted November 8, 2021 Posted November 8, 2021 Last year was not good for pitching, Twins need some turnover in pitching staff to get better. Don't see Gant coming back.
Linus Verified Member Posted November 8, 2021 Posted November 8, 2021 I thought they would try and bring him back on a reduced contract. Maybe they trusted and he declined.
Rosterman Verified Member Posted November 8, 2021 Posted November 8, 2021 He didn't seem that expensive. But...well, go forth from here. I doubt he would come back for any price.
tony&rodney Old-Timey Member Posted November 9, 2021 Posted November 9, 2021 Not a surprise. The Twins have similar relievers.
