I'm not completely sold on Jeffers, but I will give him the benefit of a doubt, when it comes to his hitting.  There are several catchers who struggled offensively early in their careers.  Some of them became decent hitters.

I think the young man is really trying to establish himself as a catcher, first.  Learning his staff, opposing hitters and runners are more of a priority for him, right now.  In fact, with this team, he may be mandated to concentrate on his defensive, and any offense he generates is great, for now.  A Twins lineup of lesser ability would require a larger offensive contribution.

How do the wheels fall off that quickly. Berrios was cruising, with a pitch count to get into the 7th or 8th, now his day is probably over after 5.

Berríos just falling apart. This is exactly why I don’t want to pay him more than $15MM AAV. He’s not at the same level as the guys earning closer to $20MM AAV.

This is who he is and why his ceiling is limited. Durable but Inconsistent.

I agree. It would be pretty cool to have Ober as our number 1.

So frustrating ... this is why I'm conflicted about extending him ... just not sure he's worth what he might get on the open market and what we would have to over pay to keep him

For some reason we can get some pitchers so close to their 90+ percentile but don’t have that last tweak to unlock it. Berrios has shown plenty of flashes that he could be the best pitcher in baseball. Even with these struggles he’s still #28 ranked fWAR for qualified MLB pitchers.

I don't think there is any more to unlock. I think this is just who he is

It’s possible this is the peak. If that’s the case it’s a good result as a whole. 3 fWAR benchmark pitchers don’t come around often here.

Berrios still shaking his head as he walks off the mound.  So much for being a professional and moving forward.
