Hosken Bombo Disco Community Moderator Posted May 12, 2021 Posted May 12, 2021 Note to Ben Rortvedt, a catcher who cannot hit: Your job, if you choose to accept it, is to praise the home plate umpire for his keen ball-strike calling every time you strike out looking.

He is lost at the plate. Agreed. I am not surprised Rortvedt is this bad at the plate, he doesn't profile as much of a MLB hitter and he's also not ready for this level of competition yet. It was more about his defensive capabilities and giving Jeffers a chance to reboot at AAA.

Agreed...him being bad at the plate certainly isn't a surprise to me, and I doubt it is to anyone in the FO...and I get giving Jeffers the chance to reset, but Jeffers ceiling is high enough for me to want him up and to grow through the rough patches at the MLB level. I think Rortvedt is what he is. Good defensive catcher, but is a bad hitter, even by catcher standards
cHawk Community Moderator Posted May 12, 2021 Posted May 12, 2021 I can’t tell if Maeda was getting really lucky or if he actually pitched well.

Calling Josh Donaldson "Joshiee" is a good way to get a knuckle sandwich, knowing Donaldson's temper.

Well, there's 'defense-first catcher', and then there's this whole other level of 'blindfolded kid hitting his dad in the junk instead of the piñata '...
h2oface Old-Timey Member Posted May 12, 2021 Posted May 12, 2021 It sure would be nice to have Donaldson bring the rain and carry this team for about a month right now.

Hard to tell and doesn’t matter much since it’s mid-May, but Berrios had issues with Rortvedt too. So can rule that out as part of the issue. just my opinion
Hosken Bombo Disco Community Moderator Posted May 12, 2021 Posted May 12, 2021 Omg looked like the change? saving for just the right moment Cease
bighat Verified Member Posted May 12, 2021 Posted May 12, 2021 Sox reporters gushing about Cease on Twitter: "20 swings and misses for Cease in 5 innings, per Statcast, which is a new career-high. Half off the fastball."
h2oface Old-Timey Member Posted May 12, 2021 Posted May 12, 2021 Only 9 pitches that inning for Maeda. At 87. Can he go 6?

h2oface Old-Timey Member Posted May 12, 2021 Posted May 12, 2021 Maybe we see Hendriks later, and see if his eyes got any closer together......
Mill1634 Verified Member Posted May 12, 2021 Author Posted May 12, 2021 Never thought I'd say this, but Willians has to be in the lineup everyday right now

h2oface Old-Timey Member Posted May 12, 2021 Posted May 12, 2021 LaRussa not quite understanding the mask science, there.
Danchat Verified Member Posted May 12, 2021 Posted May 12, 2021 That was a clean double there from Tortuga... unlike many others in this lineup, he punishes pitches when they throw him cookies. Yeah, they've got to pinch hit for Rortvedt here. Especially against a lefty.

bighat Verified Member Posted May 12, 2021 Posted May 12, 2021 Twins going to ever bother to score from 2nd on a single? This is twice now. They do it in extra innings frequently as well. I know Rocco's stat book says don't take a chance because the next guy up will hit a 3-run homer, but when that next guy is Rordtveldt you can forget about it. Just throwing runs away left and right.
h2oface Old-Timey Member Posted May 12, 2021 Posted May 12, 2021 Simmons needs to take second with that leg kick...... immediately if not sooner.
