Hmmm. No matter the exact wording of the rule, I disagree with this call because the runner had a clear path to the base.

Regarding the rule requiring the batter-runner to be on the foul side of the foul line when approaching first base, I think it needs to be clarified. I also think it should be strengthened, with every batter-runner who is in fair territory past a certain point being called out whether interfering with the fielders or not. This will require some adjustment on the part of baserunners but, as with the rule change put into use around takeout slides at second base, if the rule is clear it shouldn't be difficult.

BTW, on a slight tangent, I have sometimes heard people use the term obstruction instead of interference when a runner interferes with a fielder making a play on the ball. The correct terminology should be used.

Is he approaching any important statistical milestones? He's got his 3000 hits by a mile, and he's not catching up to ARod in the HR department. Unless he wants to pad his career leading GIDP total, I don't see the purpose.

 

If it's to soothe his pride, he could have addressed that by working out a buyout with the team. Instead, he played for the full-year's salary, which is his right, and indeed may go to good charitable causes if he has set up a foundation. But he made his own bed, and I'm fine with him lying in it. It takes nothing away from a HoF career.

Vanimal's idea could be a gracious one, if Albert doesn't latch on with someone who will play him.

 

St Loo could sign him, announcing that it would be Albert Pujols Night in a few days, give him a pinch hitting appearance or two in the meantime, let him start the game on "his" night, and remove him in the 8th inning or so, preferably after a hit so there can be a pinch runner, to a five minute standing O.

 

That's about the best-case I can come up with, for him.

It is a bad suggestion, but I don’t think he is suggesting they should put Pujols in LF. More like, 1B or DH and then Vaughn to LF. But 1B is Abreu, and DH is Mercedes, so Pujols doesn’t really fit there either.

 

Or bat off the bench? Designated pinch hitter for Billy Hamilton in the late innings?

 

Would be a funny and fitting move for the LaRussa White Sox, in any case.

Well, Sano has pretty much outhit Pujols every year the last 5, until this year...and people want to cut Sano after 1 month....so, sure, it would be great if they signed Pujols in Chicago.

First off, I feel bad that he got injured. I don't wish injuries upon anyone in the MLB because that could and sometimes does, completely derail their career. Especially with pitchers and their UCL. Most of us know, that when pitchers come back from Tommy John Surgery, they usually aren't the same pitcher. Velocity is down, control isn't there, mechanics are out wack due to compensating for something, and even loss of flexibility in their elbow. To put it plain, injuries suck.

Secondly, I believe he should be suspended. He admitted to cheating. How is this any different than when Pineda and Polanco got suspended for PED's. I understand it is harder to prove that a pitcher is cheating, than a hitter using PED's. But cheating is cheating. The worst part is, if you haven't watched the Carlos Rodon interview here, he goes on to state that pitchers who get caught are going to serve more time than the Astros did when their cheating was PROVEN. The rule that pitchers should not be using foreign substances has always been on the books but never enforced until now. And the pitchers are throwing fits about it, because they can't pitch anymore. 

Thirdly, the MLB was afraid of the too strong offense 2 years ago. So they changed the ball and look where we're at. Having to change pitching to get the offense back up so its exciting to watch baseball. Manfred is not handling the past few years very at all. We all know by looking at the stats that offense is down as a whole. Pitching is dominating the game. I personally believe it is a cyclical thing. Pitching goes up, hitting goes down. Hitters catch up and pitching drops. Eventually everything is going to even out.

If the D Backs lose their game today, they will set the MLB record for most consecutive road game losses at 23.

Annnnd they lost. Never doubted them for a second! 23 consecutive road losses and 14 in a row. I don’t think we’re getting the #1 pick next year.

Texas DFA’d Hyeon-jong Yang. You may remember him for striking out 8 Twins in 3.1 IP in early May — the only Rangers victory he pitched in.

He struck out only 11 in his other 25.2 innings, across 7 Rangers losses.

Rays are promoting Wander Franco for their game Tuesday night.

The Rays already have some good infielders, so if Franco hits well, I expect he could take some DH at-bats too (or push other players into DH), reducing their trade interest in Cruz?

Ohtani having an MVP season.

That said, when Ohtani is in the lineup as a starting pitcher who also bats in American League games, that would seem to put the Angels at a disadvantage once Ohtani is taken from the game. And particularly so, in games Ohtani is removed from the game early. 

That said, take a look at this game last night, when Ohtani did not make it out of the first inning as a starting pitcher. In Yankee Stadium, no less.

So the White Sox designated Adam Eaton for assignment today.

Eaton hasn't been good, but he was a veteran FA signing for $8 mil, their opening day RF and #2 hitter, and of course they have a bunch of injured position players right now, including a few key outfielders. So it's a little surprising.
