"Outfielder Akil Baddoo was selected with the third overall pick in the Rule 5 Draft. He will join the Tigers organization after missing nearly two full seasons of competitive play. He underwent Tommy John surgery in 2019, but he is expected to be healthy for 2021."

Good. Now I can stop reading about a prospect going into his 22 year old season that has never played higher than 29 games in high A and coming off TJ that can never hit that much being a top 10 prospect team prospect. Looks like Falvey didn't think so either, as we only had a 35 roster spots taken going into the draft. I guess the Tigers are hoping he can now miraculously make the show for a complete year. Good luck. You never know, I guess.

And look at the bright side - there is still Javier to write about. He can't hit either, but oh those tools!

Like a lot of what you said. Was wondering about the Gardy effect in Detroit? Yes, he is gone, but are any of 'his guys' still around? If so, they probably remember Baddoo and the excitement many in the organization have had for him.

I would think Romero has the best chance to be taken. He could easily be stashed in a bullpen to see if he could fulfill his potential.

Romero is still on the 40-man roster... well, on the suspended list.

It hurts to lose Badoo and Wells, but I think the Twins got off fairly lightly.  Rijo, Jax and yes, Wander Javier (he still really intrigues me) we my greatest worry about being picked.

Let's go trade for Ketel Marte now !!!

Romero is a big ???? Still haven`t heard anything?

Romero was added to the Gigantes Dominican team and has pitched twice. Didn't get anyone out the first game, and loaded the bases in a mop-up role in the 9th the other day, but threw 6 straight swinging strikes to escape.

Just curious, is there a fee when selecting a AAA Rule 5 player?

Organizations may also draft players from Double-A or lower to play for their Triple-A affiliates (for $12,000) and may draft players from Class A teams ..

Guys like Romero and Gonsalves wouldn't be eligible for the Rule V draft even if they weren't on the 40. Once you're on a 40 and tossed back off, you get to be a free agent at season's end. That might not be true of younger prospects (or it might be), but it's definitely true of guys who've been with ML organizations for as long as those two have.

Gonsalves was waived over a year ago and has since had stints in the Mets’ and Red Sox’s systems. Or am I misunderstanding your post?

Yeah, an earlier article explored who might be out there for the Twins to select and mentioned Gonsalves, at which I balked that he wasn't eligible for Rule V. That's where that name comes from.
