No matter what happens in this inning, GREAT JOB SMELTZER!

What this series has taught me is that the twins need to avoid playing the Yankees in the playoffs. Their offense can hit right along with ours and barring some big signings, their pitching, especially late inning relief, is better. We could steal a win or possibly 2, but I can’t believe we’d be favored to take a series.

Although I will say it would have been interesting to see if buxton would have made enough of a difference to help a win

Almost certainly. Kepler had to pull up on at least one ball last night that Buxton catches. Maybe more.

 

And, well, tonight... We all know what happened tonight. There's a good chance Odorizzi doesn't exhaust himself in a single inning because Buxton catches that ball on his feet (and doesn't make an asinine throw because he doesn't have to throw at all).

I have to say it's probably good for baseball. A lot of true legends of the game have played for the Yankees.

Sure their fanbase is utter garbage, but the players they have had over the years? So much talent. Talented players push others to go above and beyond, which makes the whole sport more fun to watch and more competitive. I'd say they've been good for baseball (but the fanbase has been horrible for baseball).

They were probably good for the game up through the 50s. After that, they were mostly neutral until the 90s.

 

Then money controlled the game (as it did before FA in the 70s), but the sport had grown to the point that kind of dominance has become a hindrance, not a positive.

 

If that makes sense.

 

I compare it to the Celtics and the NBA. They were good for the game when the game was small and they dominated. People LOVED watching that kind of talent coalesce and it made more people watch the sport. But that kind of dominance today is not good for the sport, especially if it comes because they can just spend more than everybody else.

And I am a HUGE Baseball history fan! So it's not like I do not appreciate the Yankees history. I just see practically that what they have done, in my opinion, has hurt baseball.

It was more than that. Both Polanco and Kepler need a day off but Kepler can hit lefties, so can Adrianza, but Polanco really can't.

Having a lot of talented players on the same team makes talented players even better because they are competing against their teammates in a sense. If we didn't have the Yankees I don't think Ruth, Gehrig, etc would have been as dominant.

Well they were the driving force behind fighting to keep the reserve clause and anti trust laws and amongst the last to integrate Negro League players.

 

But hey, I guess if they weren’t, Willie Mays would have been a damn Yankee, so that’s a plus.
