Ervin Santana?

it Was a one year deal and we could have got him back like the Rangers did for 2019. Everyone excuse me if my memory was skewed a tad about Santana. I just remember the post game press conference when he criticized the FO for all the trades. It only reinforces my stand on why do we throw him out there for even five starts and then shut him down. Why? Was he hurt all that time? Was he a bad influence? You could probably ask Molitor, but if you are in love with Falvine then asking Molitor would hardly give you the answer you wanted.

It is now all on Derek and Thad. As a fan for life I wanna know where our bullpen help and fifth starter are. Shame on our expert front office if they force a new manager to go into spring training with a roster in a constant state of influx.

Well, um, :)

I will say in the 1st inning, he almost had Gregorius struck out. Then earlier on the 3-2 pitch to Judge, Santana made a great pitch, a slider low and away, Judge flailed at it but hit it for a single anyway. MLB coded that hit as a line drive and that's how it reads on all the play-by-play logs, but it only left Judge's bat at 72.5 MPH.

But yeah, if "ifs and buts were candies and nuts".......

He DID have Gregorius struck out but the umpire didn't agree.    Who knows what would have happened but from where I sat he was throwing way to hard.    His fast ball was at 97 but he wasn't controlling it and he was throwing too hard to get his breaking balls to work.    He was plenty capable of pitching a good game.   Maybe just too amped.   One of those things.

No. I don't get the, mild, obsession with reunions this board has. No.

I agree.  Lets move on already.    We need a good utility man and I hear Nick Punto has been working out hard lately..

Well, signing Santana wouldn't cause the "constant influx" to go down if he isn't back to his former self, which certainly isn't a guarantee. I don't understand how competition for a rotation spot could be a bad thing, Mejia has shown to be a perfectly capable fifth starter and the other options like Romero wouldn't do a bad job either.

Last season they had a decent rotation on paper with a 5th starter spot open, but then added Lynn, removing that dreaded "influx". They probably should have stuck with Mejia.

Competition is a good thing and the Twins should explore it... to a point.

But I want established performance as a replacement. No more flyers. The organization is at the point where flyers can cost wins in the regular season. If Santana is throwing 92mph again, sure, give him a contract.

If he's not, no thanks. I have absolutely zero interest in seeing someone "work it out" at 88mph for six starts before being released.

Most times they don't even release them after 6 starts.

Handing someone with a 5 plus ERA the ball over and over again isn't competition.

Yeah a minor league deal with a Spring Training invite is how they should handle the flyers out there.  Then after a month of spring training you know if they have all of their stuff back or not and can just dump them if need be.
