The White Sox pitcher in the second game has positively Blackburn-esque numbers.

 

EDIT: Now the Twins pitcher has Blackburn numbers, as well.

Yikes. That's about as bad of a first inning as you'll have in the majors.

 

Now's a good time to remember that Twins rookie starters usually struggle in their first season... Romero has been the exception. And now's also a good time to note that I see Littell being a #4 starter in the big leagues, and I don't think his time to stay in the majors has come yet. Hopefully the 2nd inning will go better for him.

Remember what I said about starting this game with an "opener" pitcher and bullpenning? Now we have to do that already in a 4-0 hole

If you think Littell's stuff isn't good, Slegers' stuff profiles as barely MLB worthy...

So here's a question -- what is with so many batters wearing the cheek protector?  I can't believe that that many batters have been hit in the face.  Does it give them some sort of sense of security or safety so they think they can be more aggressive?

Pitchers are throwing more high pitches. There is less stigma.

Slegers came in and pitched alot better than this guy two years in a row.

Slegers' first start did go well last year (6.1 inning with 2 runs) but then proceeded to give up 9 runs in his next 9 innings, so I could have easily seen him doing the same as Littell today. 

 

I'd prefer to see Gonsalves today, but any of the 3 pitching would have been an acceptable call up.

Yikes, that was some bad RISP hitting. Also, Garver has been a pretty big disappointment at the plate. He's only hitting .214 as a subpar defender...

This ump is very inconsistent. Littlle guy needs to bear down and throw hard.
