Twins claim Taylor Motter from Seattle

I don't think it's crazy to consider Polanco back as a starter when he returns, as Escobar could be better suited for super utility use. I imagine they'll likely rotate Polanco and Escobar at short the first week or two and continue to play whoever has the hotter bat.

Playing the hotter bat.... Hmmm....

This is Molly managing this club, you know, right?

Would have liked to see the Twins make a claim for the big lefty just DFA by the Giants to make room to call up Ivan's kid.  (Whom the Twins drafted and converted to pitching before giving up on him).

From Twins site:

Motter, 28, appeared in seven games with the Mariners this season, going 4-for-15 with a homer and two walks. He's a career .198/.269/.326 hitter with 10 homers and 36 RBIs in 132 games over three seasons with the Rays and Mariners. He has experience at all four infield positions as well as left field and right field.

Wow. A career .198 hitter. Is it too soon to reserve my World Series tickets?

Yup - a career .198 hitter would fit right in to the Twins lineup currently...

Ain't he one o' them long, stringy hair- scraggly beard kinda guys?

We don't have as many of those as other teams.

I guess it's a depth move, then.

My guess is Adrianza is packing. I'll bet they'll get this guy up and give him a look asap, see if maybe they can cut down on the automatic outs in the lineup a little.

Do we know that the Twins gave up on him? He was a milb free agent, the Twins may have wanted him back and he decided to go elsewhere.

Quick correction: they didn't give up on him; he was a minor league free agent and chose to leave. They could have protected him with a 40 man spot, but I doubt  anyone was clamoring for him as a priority.

This article (scroll down to the Motter part) suggests (More than suggests actually) that the main reason he was cut from Seattle and not called up is more about clubhouse chemistry and attitude than it was about ability. Hopefully he will get that turned around...

What I'm hoping happens:

Ehire is gone.

Gordon gets the call up.

Motter takes over for Gordon at AAA.

When Polanco comes back, Petit is gone.

You'd do well to remember that Molitor named Adrianza as the starting shortstop after Polanco's suspension, but he did plan to rotate them. Then he basically started Escobar once he started hitting...

I dunno, Molitor has mostly played the hotter bat this season. The problem is so many bats have gone cool, there's not a lot that can be done.

I think Kyle McGrath would be a much better choice. Only 25 years old, 3.13 career ERA, 3 options remaining, held left-handed hitters to an ugly .152/.243/.250 line. He was DFAed to make room for Hughes.

Depth. Another almost 30, .200 hitter in show time. Just the kind of depth that gets me tingling. Potential just screaming at me.

I think you're forgetting positional flexibility. It's not easy to be an average defender and subpar hitter at multiple positions.

Man, if they have the parade route end up at the capitol like they did in '87, I'll be able to watch from my office. Dope.

How is it physically possible for a guy that's performed this badly on the field to be even worse off of it?
