Polanco will be the SS when he gets back at mid-season.                                                                               I wonder how long it will take Polanco to get up to speed once he returns. I really think that is part of Lynn's current problems...he missed spring training and his yin is not lined up with his yang.

"Incredible post. Reusse himself couldn't produce such a harmonious blend of old-school MN cynicism, parade raining, "real ball players" mumbo jumbo, and hyperbolic early-season doom & gloom. Hopefully they get back to losing so Number3 cheers up a little bit!"

I bet I have been following the Twins since before it was even possible for you to be conceived. I just call it as I see it. As Bill Parcels said, "You are what you are" Right now the Twins are a sub .500 team with a 4 game series on the road against one of the better teams next on the schedule. That is simply the way it is.

All the deep analysis taking up paragraph after paragraph is great if you are writing a legal brief and being paid $500/hour. Otherwise worthless.

Alright folks, you heard the man. Pack it all up, we're closing down shop until the Twins are worth writing/talking about again.

True, but it won't be that coming back. We got a taste of Escobar as the starting SS - great bat, below average in the field. Doesn't work long term. Besides, Polanco will be the SS when he gets back at mid-season so we have to plan for what to do with too many IFs when Sano comes back. No matter how you do the math you can't start Mauer, Dozier, Escobar, Sano, Polanco and Morrison on the same day unless one of them goes to the OF and that is a downgrade in the field and probably at the plate. Even if you start all but one you have to hope Polanco can hold down SS so he does have to play most days. An injury may solve the issue and you could just play it up as a stronger bench that will always have a decent bat. Still an interesting thought experiment.

Don't forget Polanco might be worse than Escobar on the field. At least we know Escobar has a better bat with more power. Escobar should be the starter over Polanco. If you think great bat and below average fielding do not work long term, that should also apply to Polanco. Please don't treat players with different standard. Why do you have to hope for someone to hold down a position? Nothing should be given. Let the performance do the talk. Escobar is producing on and off the field. Polanco could not even get on the field.

Polanco has better offensive and defensive numbers for his career than Escobar does.

Minor league career? Can you back up your statement with stats? Edited by jun

Fangraphs had Polanco’s defense around average last year while Escobar was below average.

As for offense, it’s not really fair to compare them but they were pretty close last season... but Escobar didn’t have a death in the family that skewered his numbers for a couple of months.

On the other hand, Escobar is a beast this season and we have no idea how Polanco would be hitting if he was on the field.

MLB career.

Polanco: 98 OPS+, positive defensive WAR.

Escobar: 94 OPS+, negative defensive WAR .

What does that tell us about the second half? How much should it be a significant factor in the playing time decision?

Oh, there are certainly question marks all over the place.

Was his 2nd half sided by PED's? Will he recover quickly from so much time missed?

Will there be every day playing time if Esco continues to hit, and Sano comes back and stays at 3B?

All questions that will have to be answered.

As for the quoted post, I was just giving a factual answer, not giving any opinion on who will or should play.
