IndianaTwin Verified Member Posted March 8, 2018 Posted March 8, 2018 It’s been great to be thinking about the daily barrage of Game Threads and Game Recaps starting up soon. I’ve been in my sort of spring training, firing up my fingers to respond to all the hot taeks and lame jokes. To help us in this endeavor and to get our creative juices flowing, I’d like to start a nickname thread, where we come up with the nickname of choice when referring to the various players. To play along:Creativity rules. Nothing derogatory or approaching vulgar. Give a “like” to the names you like. Add your own. Do them one at a time, so we know which one you’re commenting or liking on.Let’s get rolling:
IndianaTwin Verified Member Posted March 8, 2018 Author Posted March 8, 2018 Byron Buxton: “Wheels.” There’s the speed, sure, but everybody knows that “The Wheels on the Bux Go ‘Round and ‘Round.” I’m sorry, parents, for giving you an earworm that is going to haunt you all week: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8d8Vo72Kbrk.
IndianaTwin Verified Member Posted March 8, 2018 Author Posted March 8, 2018 Ramon Castro: Nothing immediately comes to mind, but we all know he was signed for a particular skill. Thus, I’ll propose “Framey” Castro.
IndianaTwin Verified Member Posted March 8, 2018 Author Posted March 8, 2018 Brian Dozier: Someone started this one already, so “Bull” Dozier is on the board.
IndianaTwin Verified Member Posted March 8, 2018 Author Posted March 8, 2018 Joe Mauer: As a team leader, how about the “Chairman,” as in Chairman Mau.
IndianaTwin Verified Member Posted March 8, 2018 Author Posted March 8, 2018 Eduardo Escobar: The initials give us a literary flavor, so I’ll toss out “The Poet” for our own e.e.
IndianaTwin Verified Member Posted March 8, 2018 Author Posted March 8, 2018 Max Kepler: Already fourth on the career home run list for players born in Germany and just 42 short of Mike Blowers for the all-time lead, I’ve been partial to “Der Schlagger.” He’s also atop the German list for fewest at bats per homer..
IndianaTwin Verified Member Posted March 8, 2018 Author Posted March 8, 2018 Jake Odorizzi: Credit goes to whoever came up with the Bermanism “Eggs” Odorizzi on a prior thread. This also acknowledges the goose eggs he’s going to put on the scoreboard every five days.
IndianaTwin Verified Member Posted March 8, 2018 Author Posted March 8, 2018 Logan Morrison: After referring to his manager as Paulie3K, I’m thinking maybe “Logie7C.”
IndianaTwin Verified Member Posted March 8, 2018 Author Posted March 8, 2018 Jorge Polanco: I’m thinking that with continued improvement, we may have at least 20 times to sing, “Jor-HAY, Jor-HAY, Jor-HAY, Jor-hay, Jor-haaay, Jor-haaaaaay.” That sounds like “Goal” Polanco.
IndianaTwin Verified Member Posted March 8, 2018 Author Posted March 8, 2018 Miguel Sano: “Frosty,” which is short for “Frosty the Sano Man.”
IndianaTwin Verified Member Posted March 8, 2018 Author Posted March 8, 2018 Fernando Rodney: This one’s a stretch, but stick with me. You know that pointing to the sky he does after every save as a way of remembering his dad? Perhaps he’s also pointing up there and singing, “There was something in the air that night, the stars were bright, Fernando. They were shining there for you and me, for liberty, Fernando.” And the most important line: “Though we never thought that we could lose, there’s no regret. If I had to do the same again, I would, my friend, Fernando.” So every time he gets the save, let’s give it up for “Abba” Rodney.
Riverbrian Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2018 Posted March 8, 2018 Joe Mauer: As a team leader, how about the “Chairman,” as in Chairman Mau. Boo!!! You were on a roll until that one.
Riverbrian Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2018 Posted March 8, 2018 Max Kepler: Already fourth on the career home run list for players born in Germany and just 42 short of Mike Blowers for the all-time lead, I’ve been partial to “Der Schlagger.” He’s also atop the German list for fewest at bats per homer.. The Shepherd

This also acknowledges the goose eggs he’s going to put on the scoreboard every five days. Eggs is good. I also like "Whiff" because of the Easy Odor of his last name.
Riverbrian Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2018 Posted March 8, 2018 Miguel Sano: “Frosty,” which is short for “Frosty the Sano Man.” Has to be "Frosty" Lock that one in.
Riverbrian Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2018 Posted March 8, 2018 Fernando Rodney: This one’s a stretch, but stick with me. USAFChief Twins Daily Contributor Posted March 8, 2018 Posted March 8, 2018 So far I give an unqualified thumbs up to "eggs."
Nine of twelve Verified Member Posted March 8, 2018 Posted March 8, 2018 Chief: The DinosaurToo young. I suggest The Trilobite.
GP830 Verified Member Posted March 8, 2018 Posted March 8, 2018 -Robbie "Icky" Grossman-"Did he show up in shape? That'saNo"-Fernando "Archer" Rodney- Twins got at least one archer this year.-Max "The Bavarian Bonds" Kepler-Addison "Ad Man" Reed-Zach "The Knife" Duke-Trevor "Jucy Lucy" Hildenberger
USAFChief Twins Daily Contributor Posted March 8, 2018 Posted March 8, 2018 Too young. I suggest The Trilobite. Two things I do not have in common with trilobites: 1. Trilobites are extinct. 2. Trilobites do not have the power to ban people.
Craig Arko Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2018 Posted March 8, 2018 Two things I do not have in common with trilobites: 1. Trilobites are extinct. 2. Trilobites do not have the power to ban people.Really? How many people were there along with the trilobites? Q.E.D.
Tom Froemming Twins Daily Contributor Posted March 8, 2018 Posted March 8, 2018 Trevor Hildenberger: Pits (because the name on his jersey goes from armpit to armpit).
GP830 Verified Member Posted March 8, 2018 Posted March 8, 2018 Rosario: "Everyday Eddy"Escobar: "Days When Sano is hurt, DHing, or Suspended Eddy"
ashbury Verified Member Posted March 8, 2018 Posted March 8, 2018 OK, the rules said one at a time. Brace yourselves... Kennys "Bye Bye" Vargas - for the home runs, or for his destiny with the team?
ashbury Verified Member Posted March 8, 2018 Posted March 8, 2018 Zack "Countertop" Granite - love it or hate it, probably hate it
ashbury Verified Member Posted March 8, 2018 Posted March 8, 2018 Byron "Death To Flying Things" Buxton - a recycled real nickname from the 19th C.
